No your not a crazy prepper, remember the bitcoin history we're people saying to those people who invest to it that they are a crazy prepper it's a scam coin, now we know what happened, I'm also planning to do that what you are doing storing precious metals and rare items that you don't know that in the future it will have more value than you think. I admire people thinking about what will happen in the future and prepare some precautionary plans for it. keep it up but still use dollars for you daily needs  ;D

I would like to prep as well but don't have the resources do do to.

BTW, if you don't mind me giving advice, I suggest you also stock up on liquors. Those things last for a freakin long time that you don't have to worry about them degrading. There also seem to be a trend in stockpiling whiskey, so you may get some profits even without the economic collapse. Wine also earn profit if you for it right, collapse or not. And you can drink these if you think you're not getting profit. Try eating gold, LOL.

Cigarettes and currency is not enough for SHTF situation.
You need food stores, antibiotics, cleaning supplies ( hygiene ones are most important, and toilet paper)
And I don't see how you are planning to protect your hoard without  any firepower, there is a good article on what happened in a situation like that from Bosnia http://www.silverdoctors.com/gold/gold-news/one-year-in-hellsurviving-a-full-shtf-collapse-in-bosnia/

Saving is sensible, whatever form of investments you decide to take. You should try to diversify your portfolio as much as possible though, "don't keep all your eggs in one basket" and all that. I like saving too and banks are generally safe, in a doomsday scenario however - a bank could be a bad place to have your investments because the government can take it over to prevent all withdrawals. Also, short term this would help you survive - long term silver might not have any practical value to other people if society has fallen.
