Etherium is a better coin since it also has the smart contract feature. There is nothing that you can do with bitcoin but you cant with etherium. So why not all people sell their bitcoin and buy etherium.

The security is poor for one thing It be hacked a couples of times now already

ETH is a worthy contender of bitcoin but that doesn't mean that people will sell off their long term holdings and buy ETH at this price. I know many people have scored bitcoin at a very low price and they are already sitting on a huge huge profit. I myself bought first bitcoin at $450 USD and I am already making a huge profit.

However, ETH is a good coin and a lot of people have started staking that coin as well. Seeing the popularity of ETH, coinbase and Blockchain.info has integrated their platform with ETH. So I am holding both bitcoin and ETH now as an investment. But bitcoin, being a pioneer of the crypto currency, is not going to die anytime soon. Instead the recent price drop will give an immense opportunity to the investors like us, to purchase bitcoin at lower price. Selling off bitcoin is not a resolution. Instead invest in both to be rewarded suitably.

When it comes to transactions as of now and these past weeks, ethereum is faster and cheaper. But that doesn't mean people would just dump their bitcoins and switch to eth. There are people who have investments in bitcoin for years now. And bitcoin is still growing faster than ethereum does. Though you can always invest in both.

for me yes i would do that also because changing eth from btc while i am holding it for a long time are not good decision i must get another then investment than changing it because agree with that also they are both good investment.

When ethereum comes to the zksnark implementation and other just like plasma and even raiden network and i will be believing they will sell their bitcoin to buy the ethereum in the future.

Gosh, it's September 2017 and people still don't know BTC and ETH serve a different purpose.

Let me ask you a question. Why doesn't everybody sell their computer and use their smartphone instead?

I doubt that Ethereum will ever overtake Bitcoin. Bitcoin doesn't derive its value from having 'good tech' but from authenticity as a secure, original and safe store of value.

For a longer period, it might be good idea to buy Ether and Bitcoin both. But it would be fair to say, keep an eye on both, and keep your trigger finger close to your keyboard!

BTW: It's ethereum, not 'etherium' ;)

This is the one reasons why some or most people do still choose bitcoin rather than ETH because of security we do know that eth been involved on hacking incidents which some investors do really see this as a flaw why do hesitate to invest but well this decision would really depend on a certain person if he would go all in on ETH or would decide on having both coins would be much better.

Ehereum will have hardfork soon as well as bitcoin will. But at bitcoin it's not clear anough if it would be or not - there is one more speculation about segwit2x and the price should be dumped before 1st November. Metropolis at ethereum will be realized 100% (sooner or later). That's why the ETH price should grow up significantly soon.

* bitcoin is what everyone knows about and trusts, the merchants adopted bitcoin. investors see bitcoin as a solid investment. if you go out in the street and ask people if they heard about bitcoin or ethereum there is nobody who has ever heard of ETH and not bitcoin first.
* eth has no usage. it is only abused by the ICO people to create new ICOs and most of ICOs we already know are crap. there may be 1 or 2 that try to do something but the rest ....

* bitcoin has been performing seamlessly for as long as it was around (8-9 years) and never failed even a second to not work or the network to go down or anything like that.
* ethereum has already failed a couple of times to handle a simple surge of transactions

* bitcoin had no premine
* right now even after this much new ETH mined there is still 80% of it premined

* bitcoin is decentralized
* eth is greatly centralized.

smart contract is already coming to ETH. so if we all agree that you are correct then as soon as smart contracts come to bitcoin (in a couple of months) ETH should die.

If everyone will going to sell their bitcoin it will result to slight value decrease of bitcoin because the selling demand will going high opposite reaction to ethereum because it will going to increase the value because of buying demand is going to be high. Maybe you are now investing in Ethereum that's why you want everyone to sell bitcoin and buy ethereum. Why don't you divide your capital for both because this top two coins is promising then you will earn from both too.

Ethereum is a different thing. It offers a lot that bitcoin doesn't offer, but it won't replace bitcoin, it will expand in a different direction. Bitcoin is effectively digital gold, a store of value, and the gateway between alt coins and fiat. Bitcoin is not going away!

People will not sell their bitcoin for ethereum. Ethereum has been hacked so many times, just as of September 2017 there more than your fingers can count hacking incidents that involves ethereum. That is so bad as for their reputation, that is why people hesitates to put all their money there. You wouldn't want to put all your money in it with that kinda reputation. So bitcoin is still most reliable in terms of invesment and security. Im not trying to devalue eth, because I'm an eth investor too Im just being fair on my judgement. Etherium may have a very big potential but the security hinders it to surpass bitcoin.

For the one that is looking for the background from both of it eth and btc and see that the other one is much better of course they will choose the good and the better. So in this case that's what i see why some don't do changing eth to btc.

Cant you just understand what you read. I dont say "there is nothing to do with bitcoin" I am saying ethereum is a value same as the bitcoin and it also has got some extra features.

I don't like ETH. I don't trust these coins in the long run, but that does not mean that I never buy. If it can generate income that I will not abandon the transaction. BTC is more promising for storage of coins in the long run.

I suggest to read up on the reasons why Satoshi designed Bitcoin to not be turing complete. It's interesting information, will teach you a little about security and help you understand why so many hacks happen with various software packages. The number one reason is security.

You may have also noticed that as a decentralized system that ETH is a complete failure in living up to the hype. It was pumped as the "world super computer" that could do everything from issue ICOs, DAPPS, useful for businesses, smart contracts for banks and lawyers. The reason it's not capable of doing all this is as a decentralized system it's 1000s of times slower than the processor in my cell phone. Just think how single ICOs have totally bogged down the entire network, then imagine what would happen if a single popular DAPP was ever created (there are no popular ones in existence currently) that was used by the world population 24/7. The ETH network would be incapable of handling two popular DAPPs. The fact is a decentralized network is not able to do everything; but, might be able to do one thing well like function as money. The scaling debate for all decentralized coins demonstrate that even doing one thing  well is difficult. Ethereum the platform might be useful for private chains; but, when you buy ETH the public token you're not getting a piece of that.

Bitcoin is getting smart contracts on side chains. This means the turing complete chain is one step removed from the money chain. Keeping the money chain safe needs to be the first priority.

First off newbie, Ethereum is highly centralized and most of the coins belong to limited people.
Second, Ethereum has shady operations previously, it seems that you don't know about them because you were not here. Read what happened when DAO is hacked, see yourself what Vitalik did. Nobody trust that kind of coin in Bitcoin business.
We are using Ethereum just for maximizing our gains. Ethereum is not a trusted coin anymore after that hardfork.

Some people just are not believing in ETH they rather invest in Bitcoin thats completely normal. Im also focused on Bitcoin, but not to other coins. I think that you can make great money out of btc.

I have also invested in altcoins, but i as i said before Im mostly focused on BTC, but if there is a good coin. Why should you not invest in it ?

Ethereum is better in many ways and thats true, faster transaction, smart contract and etc. Bitcoin has its value as a main currency on exchangeres and still i dont think that someone would want to dump all their bitcoins at once to get eth. ETH would have the same market cap as bitcoin sooner or later, but the growth would be little by little :)

No need to mentioned it is better because it has quality and people are attracted to ETH so i would like to say that we should need to use ETH coin because it has a great future and upcoming days it would reach 1000USD.

That is for -quick investments. Ethereum is not going to make you that much money if you don't have Bitcoin. Trading with the charts make the trends easy to locate.

We all have freedom to  choose where to invest. If you think it's better to invest in etherium and other think its more okay to invest in bitcoin, then go. Most of us here already hold bitcoin for a long time and they already have a big profit on it. There's a bigger difference with the price of bitcoin and eth.

What you've been reading and seeing on reports are ICOs and shitcoins that do not have capable developers which resulted in loopholes in their coin making them vulnerable targets for theft.

A car that was stolen because the doors were left open and the key left inside is not the fault of the car manufacturer.

Because everyone has different beliefs and bitcoin and ethereum have their own communities, we can't impose on this, you say we can't do anything with bitcoin because just holding it is profitable

its like to ask why people dont sell gold and buy silver, silver is better.
yes silver can be better in some cases
but gold has moree value, it has more demand and its harder to get.

If you base your argument on smart contract feature alone and are already a fan of Ethereum then probably the coin will always be heavier than bitcoin for you. But I am basing on the entire existence of the two coins, their features and acceptability, and bitcoin is number one for me.

I think it good Bitcoin has been around much longer. More time to get out the bugs and settle down from any problems. Ethereum is a newer and it is still working out some matters, which others have already listed. Dao hack was just one big one everyone know about already.

Etherium could fail miserably as an experiment. It's down a lot (the network lags/suspends) because it doesn't handle the situation of supporting all these crap erc-20 token distributions. It will hit scaling problems even faster than Bitcoin and it might just turn out that its model isn't sustainable.

Not even Vitalik would tell you that Ether is better than Bitcoin, he'd tell you they are both crazy risky investments and to buy stocks and bonds. (Something to think about) He has also stated that it's not meant to replace Bitcoin or serve as a currency.

maybe etherium is a better coin but don't forget that bitcoin price is tempting every people to keep their bitcoin so I think people will hold their bitcoin as long as they can. beside that maybe people will sell with small or limit amount because they know that bitcoin in future will be expensive and they waiting that time to sell. there is few people that thinking about better coin like ethereum or the other coins but they are only thinking about the price of the coin. the most expensive coin, they will save it and the other coin, they will save it too.

The principle that bitcoin already gather attention in an mainstream venue where ETH still trying to accomplish until ETH haven't supported by most of those business who already cater btc adoptions it still a big question whether we gonna transfer our btc to ETH but if ever things happen I will split my holdings too.

First, everybody has their own mindset and strategy, we can push everybody to do something without their permission. Second, it's their money, you can't do anything about it. Third, maybe they has bad experience with buy etherium maybe loss or holding too long. Last one, ask to yourself if your analyze wrong and they were wright, should they follow you? Have a nice day.

side-by-side. Over the last 6 months, BTC has seen a much bigger rise in price that ETH.  That's
always going to keep people engaged, since their holding value is going up.

Bitcoin and ethereum are still the best crypto-currency for long-term storage. There is no sense in translating all the bitcoins into the ethereum. I believe that it is necessary to keep some of your savings in bitcoin, with a significant part of it, and some in the ethereum. Bitcoin, in consequence of its great price, brings a greater profit than the ethereum due to the appreciation of the rate. This trend, apparently, will continue in the future.

Ethereum might be a good contender against Bitcoin but I would agree on the opinions of the majority here that bitcoin is and will still be King of the Cryptojungle. Some might ridicule the supposed claim of Cryptocurrencies that it is decentralized (look at what happened on some occasions that few people tend to control the strings), also worth looking that bitcoin might not be that decentralized as it may seem.

ETH also suffers from the drag of all the ICOs cashing out. That's the downside of the
Smart Contract capabilities. More ICOs happen on your platform. And then they all convert
to Dollars or Euros which drives the price down. That effect is much smaller with BTC.

Because the present value of bitcoin is higher than ETH and BTC is the focus of attention in the market and everyone puts their trust in it.

Individuals won't offer their bitcoin for eth. Eth has been hacked such a large number of times, similarly as of the previous month there more than your fingers can check hacking occurrences that includes eth. That is so awful with respect to their notoriety, that is the reason individuals dithers to put all their cash there. You wouldn't have any desire to put all your cash in it with that kinda notoriety. So bitcoin is still most dependable as far as contributing and security. I'm not endeavoring to depreciate eth, on the grounds that I'm an eth speculator too I'm simply being reasonable on my judgment. Eth may have a major potential yet the security upsets it to outperform bitcoin.

These are different coin with different function. Ethereum can not be compare with security of bitcoin. bitcoin is absolutely tamper proof! And is not easy to reverse, double spend  or decript bitcoin.

I would have thought that after all this time, and the hype about Bitcoin Cash and the hundreds of ETH tokens out there... we wouldn't see ETH shills. But here they come to prove me wrong.

Seriously? ETH is better because of smart contract? It's hardforking now because it needs to scale and wasn't secure enough for all the apps coming onboard. That's doing it backwards, but never mind.
