Title: Aragon, Auctus, Golem, OmiseGO and others migrating to Rocket.Chat
Post by: DuarteFig on September 22, 2017, 05:12:12 PM
Hello, everyone.
It is very important that the community stays in touch with projects team members and developers. We are used to communicating through Slack, but, as you may have noticed, the number of phishing attempts is incredibly high (through direct messages and bots).

Aragon (https://aragon.one/) initially started the proposal for the community (https://github.com/aragon/governance/issues/7) after there had already been discussion on the subject from multiple projects.

Concerned about security, today we announced that we will close our slack channels in the next weeks and migrate to Rocket.Chat (https://rocket.chat/).

The projects that have already announced it in their blogs are:

  • Aragon (https://blog.aragon.one/announcing-our-migration-to-an-open-source-messaging-platform-420b25e74284)
  • Auctus (https://medium.com/auctus/announcing-our-migration-to-an-open-source-messaging-platform-d061844837d5)
  • Decentraland (https://twitter.com/decentraland/status/911254767430709248)
  • Indorse (https://medium.com/joinindorse/announcing-the-indorse-migration-from-slack-to-rocket-chat-e6a643d87f39)
  • Santiment (https://medium.com/santiment/goodbye-slack-hello-open-source-messaging-platform-c97398a20ce9)
  • Streamr (https://blog.streamr.com/2017/09/goodbye-slack-goodbye-scammers-hello-rocket-chat/)

Cofound.it, OmiseGo, Golem and others will also be migrating together as a part of this effort.

What are your thoughts?

Slack has been very annoying these last few dAys. I get about 50 phishing attempt emails a day. I've considered deleting my slack. I haven't read those links you posted but how will rocket chat prevent what is happening in slack to happen there?

The problem about Slack is that they haven't responded to the requests to solve the problem. If they added URL filtering, the option to disable direct messages, or the option to disable the slack bots, the problem with scams and phishing attempts would be eliminated or reduced.

With the ongoing slack scams and refusal of slack to address the problem, these projects (Aragon, Auctus, Golem, Indorse...) started a discussion and found in Rocket a better option.

Rocket Chat is an open source messaging platform. It is always good to support and make use of open source initiatives. We won't need to wait for the goodwill of a team to add features to meet our security requirements.

Didn't know about Rocket.chat. I will subscribe. I have received a lot of scam in other channels too. The same thing with Telegram. This is a great opportunity to a new tool get some market share.
