Title: ETH Mining in the next few months
Post by: Flickspeed on September 22, 2017, 08:28:56 PM
Here we discuss the ETH mining outlook for the next few month.

Key Dates:

September 22, 2017 (Already happened)

Ethereum Difficulty Bomb went live bringing the ETH revenue down roughly 20%.

October 19, 2017

a ) Byzantium Hard Fork to go live on this date. Bringing difficulty down by around 50% and lowering mining rewards to 3 ETH per block. Resetting the overall mining revenue to around the same numbers as prior to the Sep. 22 Difficulty Bomb given that the global hashrate stays the same.

b) Community Activated Hard Fork - CAHF goes live as well, some part of Chinese hashing power will switch to that and mine "Ethereum ICE".

As of today, China continues to put pressure on cryptocurrencies, shutting down all Chinese exchanges by OCT 30th and until further notice with rumors floating around that mining operations in China are also under question.

With all this mind, there are two main questions:

1. Regarding the CAHF.

a) How much of the Chinese hashing power will switch over to CAHFs so called Ethereum ICE?
b) How will this have an impact on the price of Ethereum, considering Byzantium update, and how profitable do you think mining new ICE will be in the first 2 weeks, as well as the next months after that.
c) And the main question: Will we see a jump in Ethereum mining revenue due to CAHF, if yes than how many %?
d) Does this Ethereum ICE have any future?

CAHF

what is the latest status of CAHF? except the the announcement, what else?
any code already on Github? any whitepapers? any roadmaps for the next 3 months?

what i can find over the internet is just that announcement, and a reddit discussion thread...nothing else...

Well there is this:

http://www.cahf.co/

and

https://github.com/CAHF/

As for this thread we discuss the commercial outcome from the events scheduled, not the actual CAHF or its meaning.

So they plan on mining Ethereum ICE, literally a dying chain...sounds retarded.

We can only hope china bans all mining, imagine the profits.  ;D  But I find that unlikely as I am sure China does not mind the extra taxes they earn from mining farms.

I would consider all of this fud currently.

Yes Ethereum mining will be very poor revenue for the next days.
The problem is what to mine with all these RIG ?
Specially with AMD GPU : they have very bad hashrate with most algos...

I dont see this happening, it wont be even worth it to switch coins even since hash power will move to other coins and thus equalize things imo

AMD is quite good at XMR/Monero so if anything you can switch to that or pascal

let the core developers mine themselves to support their coin
i am switching to Zcash

I have a rig with about 210Mh/s hashrate, all nvidia cards. Should I switch to another during this period? If yes, which one?

Switching to ETC will not make a difference.

ETH will have the most profit and if another coin is more profitable then miners will switch over to it balancing it out.  Besides the reduced issuance will still earn you more than currently because block time will get slashed in half plus the price will increase.
