As per a report broken by Squaker.org Amazon will accept Bitcoins as a form of payment soon. We could see a likely announcement on October 26th during Amazon's earnings conference call.

This could turn out to be a massive moment in the BTC history which could open up further possibilities.

This could bring another revolution in the cryptocurrency market. Till now no official statement has been issued that will Amazon introduce new mode of payment i.e. Bitcoin in their system. But as for now nearly 5,381 petitioners have  signed the campaign in demand of introduction of bitcoin in the system so Amazon might think upon it. Also, Amazon was one of the early e-commerce trading companies and many new e-commerce companies follow its foot-step if they legalize Bitcoin then many other e-commerce companies and other companies may also start accepting the bitcoins. Hence making it as a new revolution.

Let's wait till October 26th and find out.

If that happens it will be better than any of the legalization, but I think that this will not happen. The tax authorities will not be able to formally calculate and track such transactions and I think they will be against. I think such rumors are aimed only for advertising Amazon. Until 26 October will be free to spread news about them. Then some will say why this has not happened. What do they want?

No doubt amazon has one of the largest online sell in the world and if it start accepting bitcoins for shopping then certainly bitcoin will be more valuable and legit for those who still have questions in minds. 26th october isnt far away lets wait for the big moment.

If that's true, then surely a large number of people will come to know about bitcoin as well starts using it for their good needs. Already few traders of eBay seems to accept bitcoin as payment. Anyhow the upcoming generations will stick to digital currency usage avoiding paper money and other card systems.

This could be some well-needed bullish news if it does happen. I've been using Newegg as my primary source of purchasing products with Bitcoin recently, Amazon could be a change. Amazon's an innovator and with any luck it'll pass. I'm also wondering what payment processor they'll use, Bitpay or something custom?

We need to wait and find out! Amazon is very big company and if they start to accept bitcoins that will make bitcoin more popular and trusted. I will not believe in this until it happens, I`m sure that one day they will start to accept bitcoins as payment method but when will that happen depends from them. Will they accept bitcoin directly or they will use service like bitpay is also important.
26 October is a month from now, that is not far away and soon we will know is this true or not. I`m sure that this can reflect on price and maybe bitcoin can really go to 10.000$ by the end of the year like some people predicted. I don`t see what else can make the price grow so much in just few months except this, I`m not sure that even this can enough for such price rise.

we all hope this happens and the news is true. because with amazon action to receive payment via bitcoin then this will make bitcoin more widely known. we all know that amazon users very much and also come from various circles around the world. amazon is a good start for bitcoin to get back into the wider economy. if it happens then the first step we should do is to use amazoin and apply bitcoin as payment medium. this will make amazon and bitcoin increasingly have a bright future.

Amazon should have a port. Their main market is the United States. As far as I know in USA is not legalized trade with bitcoins therefore, in the case of a decision to take payment in bitcoin, the government or the tax office can block access to the website in America. The idea is beautiful, but I don't believe it.

It's 100% pure speculation. I don't doubt that it'll happen at some point, but saying it'll happen *as early as* Oct 26th is a cop out statement since the only way he could be wrong is if it happens sooner than that.

Even if someone from Amazon comes out and rubbishes this report, then also we can go on with our lives. But if there's no news then I think we may see a small spike till the news comes out.

This. I feel sure that if it was really true, bitcoin's price would have jumped as Amazon executives would have rushed to buy (because bitcoin is unregulated and they don't have to disclose if they own any, they buy without upsetting the SEC).

How do you know Amazon hasn't been buying millions since the $2800 dip? Hell, Jamie Dimon and Jeff Bezos may have teamed up to crash the market and buy a of cheap BTC before the news of Amazon accepting BTC became official. If it was fake, wouldn't Amazon have said it's fake already?

I would buy right now if I didn't own any BTC, you can't miss the potential pump if it turns out to be real.

if it turns out to be true and Amazon does really start accepting bitcoin directly not though third parties like it is doing now with gift cards and all, then it will be huge for bitcoin!
Amazon is big and kind of global in many countries in the world and a great number of people are using it every day. if they start accepting bitcoin that will be HUGE publicity for bitcoin and in long run it will cause to a much greater adoption.

If that happen, it would really mean a lot to a bitcoin and bitcoin users. One of greatest selling sites to accept bitcoin as a way of paying is not a small thing. I think that is a big step for bitcoin, but i hope it will not be its last. It would make me even more happier if more companies, big as Amazon start accepting bitcoin. First time i was this happy, it was when i have seen that Steam accept bitcoin as a way of paying. Go go Bitcoin!  ;D

But my bet is this is a completely fake rumor and nothing more. Would like to be proven wrong though.

This is what I was trying to achieve. Spread the news enough and with the right channels to get a denial from official sources. If there's no denial then they could either accept btc or get into the blockchain space.

I wish it was true but seems like fake news.  Eventually Ebay and Amazon will have to add bitcoin in order to keep up with the advances but we'll see when it happens.

I buy on Amazon, but I would prefer to continue to pay as I do now with fiat, because of I better will stay bitcoin to myself which is going to rise and bring me much more money, so better I would have this money than Amazon which is rich already, but I don't  :P

This could definitely be possible. Amazon has expressed interest in the past in accepting btc if i'm not mistaken as well.

Them being interested in accepting bitcoin and announcing acceptance of bitcoin is going to prove to be a very positive piece for the traders and they are likely going to open up long positions. I'd say as soon as they announce it we can expect at least $300 increase in btc price.

Though the timing is still unknown, but end of October seems likely.

Indeed.  I've been reading about Amazon accepting bitcoin for probably a good year
now, and I'll believe it when I see it.  It would be smart for them to do so, as the people who
generally use Amazon are pretty tech savvy and would be the ones most likely to actually
use bitcoin as a currency.  In other words, it's about time they started taking BTC.  Hell,
I haven't ordered anything from them in a few years, but I'd be happy to spend some coin
there if they took it, just to show my support.

Finally, some positive news for Bitcoin!

It'll obviously be great news for Bitcoin if Amazon decided to accept it and I think that it's going to spark a new round of pumps if it does happen in October or even just this year.  Amazon is one of the biggest online ecommerce sites no doubt, and for them to show interest in Bitcoin at all is a major news in the Bitcoin field.

the price could well go above and beyond $5,000 per Bitcoin at the announcement once they announce it.  and that is quite conservative as we have seen much higher pumps.

It's not confirmed yet, plus this is not realistic for Amazon. Some countries are banning bitcoin and other things. Amazon can't have bitcoin payment service during this situation clearly.

If it gets implemented then I would assume it would have to start with countries where it is currently legal.

Which countries? There's just China. That too is only because they will clean up the system first. Any one backing Bitcoins would know that this is the right time to push it. Who knows they may buy a few themselves and announce it and get rewarded.

So, how do they calculate taxes of companies that already accept payment with bitcoin? There must be a system. I don’t see any problem. I suppose it must be something like counting bitcoin payment as the equivalent in fiat money, that’s it.

Moreover, I am positively sure that they will accept bitcoin payment but not so sure it will be as early as in a month because virtually no companies accept it nowadays. To accept it would be very good for us but a big move for the company.

Maybe the best thing we can do is to wait until Oct 26th if Amazon will really finally accepts bitcoin for payments. But for me, that is not really the problem. I want that Amazon will decrease their charge if they'll delivers other countries.  ;D

I'm sure it would only be region by region for quite a while. They would probably do a pilot program in, say, Seattle. Then they would gradually roll it out to other regions.

Scale is an issue. I actually don't think that Amazon nor the Bitcoin network could comfortably handle the potential volume that Amazon could bring. I feel like Satoshi re: Wikileaks. :D I don't see this as feasible until we have a functioning Lightning Network. And if they did it through Bitpay or Coinbase, same problem.

You will pay with what will be easier and cheaper to you. So as anyone else. Those that mainly sell BTC need more merchants, those that still accumulate, they dont really need them since they just reduce their pile of BTC.

An important reason why Amazon won't be accepting Bitcoin anytime soon is because a lot of their sales come through 3rd party sellers.

So, even though Amazon is the sales platform, you're actually buying from an independent seller and Amazon is just handling the order processing (and sometimes fulfillment). This means that individual sellers would have to sign on to accept Bitcoin.

Just managing this process and dealing with all the complaints from sellers who aren't happy with the BTC/USD rate at the time of sale thinking that Amazon screwed them somehow would make this a nightmare for Amazon. Amazon only disburses money to sellers every two weeks, so you could have sellers who sold a product when BTC was at $4,500, but it's at $3,500 by the time it gets disbursed.

The technical implementation wouldn't be as easy as just adding another payment option, so I'd be willing to bet everything I have that they won't be accepting BTC anytime soon.

I was waiting for this for a long time and i hope this time it can be happen this coming october  but i was confused honestly i seen a news yesterday that amazon will not accept bitcoin every and we are just seen that amazon was not accepting bitcoin until now..

Even if they acknowledge on 26th October that will implement btc payment system in a few months time for a specific region it will give the btc a significant push in value.

If this does happen then it'll definitely impact bitcoin's price and drive it up quite a bit, and make a full recovery up to $4000+ and making the $4000 level as a floor finally. However, this remains to be speculation and it's hard to say whether or not Amazon is actually going to do it.


Good point, but they can simply act as the middleman and convert the btc to fiat or even just have an option for people to accept btc directly. It's not difficult to implement at all.

Exactly good statement at all because look at the market. Market is surprised to see the change because look at the change bitcoin is once again going upward and people are once again coming to invest great effort by bitcoin.

although i have a feeling that there is no much truth about it and it is mostly "rumors" than anything else. reading different articles online it seems like all the news sites are also taking advantage and repeating the same thing like always! without even checking facts.

i dare say it even had some effects on the price and helped a little rise. the same way random FUD causes a little drop.

but if it comes true, the long term effects on it must be huge. it will be a very nice publicity for bitcoin and in long term it will introduce bitcoin to many others and lead to wider adoption and much more usage of bitcoin as a currency. we can expect the $10,000 to come faster with it.

Seems to good to be true for me. I myself went into bitcoin because I saw it accepted as a payment means for some service I used. If Amazon accepted it, there would be millions of new Bitcoin users and that would make the price go to the moon.

As for conversion and the difficulties for amazon and 3rd parties, they could just convert the BTC asap after receiving them... I see not much problem with that.

My gut feeling says this is probably fake. If it were to be true they would probably announce a date when they would implement it rather than going live in a couple of months.

However, you are completely mistaken about how this relationship between merchant and Amazon works.
Your worries are unfounded, because Amazon not only handles the processing but also the payment.
This is why you aren´t redirected to a sketchy website where you enter your CC data and instead
use the CC data stored at Amazom from your previous purchases.

This is only rumors and it won't come as a surprise if it turned out to be exactly just that - rumors. Sources can be reliable but can also be unreliable. It does seem weird that Amazon would implement bitcoin when they aren't selling the goods themselves but rather only serving as a platform to connect buyers and sellers.

But it could still work, and if it was implemented by October it'll offset the negative news from China completely.

Then, price has the potential to go to another ATH of $5k+. But it does depend on the legitimacy of the news.

There's very little upside for Amazon to do this and it comes with a lot of risk and complexity. If they were to start accepting, it would help Bitcoin more than it would help Amazon. Amazon is the largest retailer in the world, so they don't need to attract such a relatively small number of potential users.

I very much believe it's a fake news.Amazon will not accept bitcoin this soon because amazon operates under regulation from government and deals with a lot of fiat daily.If they accept bitcoin(which is very volatile) they can lose or gain money in short period of time which is very risky.Amazon can accept bitcoin in future when it becomes more widely accepted and price of bitcoin becomes stable and not manipulated by some dumb chinese people. :P

Amazon is willing to take on processing risk because they have security measures in place to minimize fraud and with millions of transactions per year, they can pretty accurately estimate what their loss percentage is and build it into their margins. You can't do that with exchange rate volatility.

It sounds like you're suggesting that Amazon would take on volatility so it's not an issue for merchants. If so, there's no way for Amazon to mitigate this like they can with risk of fraud. Even if Jeff Bezos personally thought Bitcoin is undervalued, it's not likely that all shareholders would agree.

The other option would be for Amazon to do conversions from BTC to fiat on the spot for each transaction. You eliminate volatility risk, but converting each transaction comes at an added cost.

What's more likely to happen first is for Visa/Mastercard to start allowing BTC at some point since that's how it works with other currencies. If someone wants to buy something on Amazon using a European credit card, the buyer pays with Euros and Amazon receives dollars. Visa/Mastercard takes on the currency risk, but they build in a favorable exchange rate to account for volatility. If you've ever bought something via credit card while traveling abroad, you can see this on your statement at the end of the month. If they were to do the same with BTC before it becomes a more stable currency, they'd have to provide a really poor exchange rate to account for the extreme volatility we see today.

I expect Amazon to instantly convert the Bitcoin into the local currency, just like any other large online service that accepts Bitcoin. Taxes are calculated just like any other sale.
If I continu speculating a bit more, I expect Amazon to be big enough to create it's own payment processor to exchange Bitcoins without paying a third party. They may even start a competing Bitcoin payment processor for other businesses, just like many businesses sell their products through Amazon.
For large orders Amazon may even save on creditcard fees if it's paid in Bitcoin.

If Amazon starts accepting Bitcoin then it automatically becomes more acceptable and hence more stable.

Today is 26th October, but there is still no official news from Amazon about this bitcoin payment. if this news turn out to be real it would be a good and big news into bitcoin community.  Bitcoin is a digital currency system and it's day by day value  increased and  it's today rate was near by 4000 $ .So it can't use it all the shopping purpose in Amazon also accept bitcoin as early as to this October or may be soon.Many may expect this to happen at the October end or November Beginning.If so bitcoin will change the Amazon World.

If Amazon really accept BTC, which is good news for communities cryptocurrency, very easy for the disposal price for each product sold by BTC, Amazon will be the intermediary to sell products offered and they will receive a fee for each product sold by BTC.

Can not imagine. How will they do a refund? Btc price fluctuates every second. They can not pay you the same amount of btc back 20 days later. If you pay 1 btc and get 0,89 back then you'll become pissed, even if it is the same value you paid.

This is a great news. Since Amazon is a huge online shop, accepting Bitcoin as a mode of payment will gradually help Bitcoin to pump its price. Many are using Amazon to shop so on one point or another, people will be introduced to Bitcoin thus increasing its demand. I just hope that this will become a reality and not just a rumor. The last time a large company announced bitcoin acceptance, the price actually DROPPED. I'd like bitcoin price to go up as much as anyone here on the forum. But the reality is what it is. I'm just saying.

Indeed, I like to order through Amazon a lot because almost hardware for my PC from Amazon are cheaper than shops in my country. But I do not want to pay many money for transaction fees of Visa. This news really a happy news for people as me.

If that happen for sure the price of bitcoin will increase because they have many user of amazon will buy bitcoin so the price will increase. If Amazon makes such an innovation, it will be an example of sites like eBay, Google, AliExpress. We will see it in October, so in this month.

I'm honestly confused by people getting so excited about merchant acceptance. What is this, 2014? I don't think it's realistic for a company of Amazon's scale to accept Bitcoin at this point. And if they did, they would need to hedge most or all of the fiat value -- meaning the more that bitcoiners "support" Amazon by spending BTC there, the more immediate downward pressure there is on the price. Spending BTC in this context is equal to selling it.

If people really want the price to go up, they should preach hoarding, not spending. :P

This thing isn't confirmed yet but it will be a good idea for them to start accepting bitcoin on their service. We know they are one of the biggest e-commerce business in the world and bitcoin is a good help for those people that doesn't want to use their identities such us credit cards and they don't want to link it anymore. you think Amazon will sign up on bitstamp or poloniex or coinbase to sell the coins each day :D
because price is determined on those exchanges not the way merchants receive the money. and you seem to not know about how BitPay works by automatically converting bitcoin back to fiat.
also you seem to forget that for every buy there is a sell. someone buys bitcoin to spend so the merchant sell. there will be a balance.

price will go up with more adoption, more adoption happens with more people coming in, more people should be coming in to use bitcoin as a currency not just bag hold it to dump for more profit, and that will only happen with more merchants accepting bitcoin, and they will only accept it if people are spending bitcoin.

growth doesn't just happen on its own. there is a limit to how many speculators invest and how much price can go up because of them.

This could potentially be a problem. I would imagine that amazon would probably use something like Bitpay as a payment gateway to convert their bitcoin as soon as they receive it or at least until bitcoin becomes stable enough for them to deal entirely in bitcoin without fiat.

The news is not confirmed. Of course if Amazon starts accepting Bitcoin, it would be great exposure for Bitcoin and people who think it's a scam will have something to think about.

Because of a thing called "liquidity." No payment processor can guarantee liquidity for Amazon. So unless you are suggesting that Amazon is going to simply "hodl" the vast majority of BTC received, it's not realistic.


You don't know what "converting bitcoin to fiat" means? That equates to selling pressure by definition (i.e. downward pressure on the price).

I didn't forget that for every buy there is a sell. The point is that, all else equal, merchants accepting bitcoins for payment represents supply, not demand. If you want to have a discussion about why demand for bitcoins is too strong for that to matter because x/y/z, that's a different discussion.


We don't need merchants "accepting" bitcoin only to immediately dump it. What we need are users who use the currency, removed from fiat conversion. We need users who want to buy bitcoins for reasons other than to spend them at merchants who just want dollars.

I'm not saying that Bitcoin doesn't have use as a currency. I'm saying that merchant acceptance at this stage should not be a priority -- not when merchants aren't interested in holding BTC and actually participating in the economy.

Bitcoin = censorship-resistant, trustless money. And digital gold. Not just another payment rail for merchants to add alongside Visa and Mastercard.

I am sure they'll draft a refund policy and will warn buyers at the time of buying itself on fluctuating values or even refunds back in the form of Amazon Pay.

October month come but there's no news about it from amazon and maybe they will analyzed some things regarding to this acceptance since the flactuating value of bitcoins are changing time to time but if amazon will pursue this adoption well a possible huge return of earnings will came unto them since we know bitcoins is been globally used by many people and certain powerful countries.

Pretty sure they'll do that, the price you're going to pay with bitcoin is already fixed and at that time when you choose to pay with bitcoin, the payment gateway already set a fixed equivalent to btc so that there's no thing called fluctuative value anymore, then amazon can simply refund the money just as the same as the price of the stuff.

Maybe it was another fake? Today is already October and I don't see any changes. Of course I support this idea of trading with bitcoins. Such a move would be a significant victory for the bitcoin community. But I think that this goes against the plans of governments and therefore they will not allow it. But the fact that such projects are negotiated in society, it's good. This contributes to the rising popularity of bitcoin.

This is a good indicator that bitcoin price will soon pump up.  We expect others online retailers to follow suit as this will easily take us to the moon. I expect and interest from people and government after this happen and we hope bitcoin get to mainstream media because of this.

And the entire article was just the rambling speculations of one person who isn't noteworthy. The only reason anyone took it seriously was because John McAfee posted it on Twitter. He should be embarrassed for spreading around blatantly false rumors like this.

That definitely will happen. If a company as large as Amazon wants to stay in business, they need to adapt depending on what the customer wants and that is including bitcoin as another form of payment. The demands of the customers will force every large companies to follow.

It would be nice if it would really come true but the links provided by OP are not reliable ones. They look like that they are clickbait and if this news about amazon accepting bitcoin this October, then it would have had been already published on cointelegraph or other trusted sources and also by amazon themselves confirming that they would accept bitcoin this month. Since I haven't seen Amazon do that, I think news is fake.

Is that what the customer wants? My take from people is that they are very happy with the free same-day/1-day delivery, streaming service, AmazonFresh/Prime Now services. They seem to be phasing out Fedex/UPS entirely and drastically improving delivery times. Amazon has got a lot on their plate with their perpetually huge expansion. They're taking over the world, basically.

And I honestly don't think that the vast majority of their customer base is demanding that they accept Bitcoin. I think much of their customer base is silently rooting for them to continue taking over global commerce, so they can realize even lower costs.... that's about it, though.

there should be official information from amazon, because the maze of information will not give us a belief. sometimes some people also make false information for their own purposes. yes no information will really happen if there is no official information from amazon. this is a common thing in today's technology era.

Yes, there is a chance once the US government gives license to the exchanges and start giving green signal bitcoin acceptance then the everybody will start accepting Bitcoin as payment in all e-commerce business. Not only Amazon there are many outlets will start accepting the Bitcoin as the payment method.

I don't think Amazon is at any risk of going out of business if they choose not to accept bitcoin. At least not at any point in the near future.

If this happens it will be a huge moment for bitcoin and I would expect a big price surge, not only is Amazon a huge retailer but it would also start to pave the way for further large corporations to begin accepting bitcoin as a payment method.

I also await the next news about AMZ, I think they need more time to prepare for accepting Bitcoin and how buying and selling goods with Bitcoin, as well as the security conditions.

That's wrong, most of bitcoiners are traders and will not going to get affected by the acceptance of amazon, if amazon really accept bitcoin as one of their payment method, im sure that itll only help a few people while the rest of bitcoin users dont even care. the big price surge will not likely to happen, maybe amazon is a huge retailer but means nothing for the traders or big investors.

if this  Speculation doesnt end up like any other ordinary story collecting dust this could be one of the biggest successes bitcoin has had for the year 2017, and without the reversible transactions i think more sellers will come on board meaning a rise in demand unless an escrow is integrated into the system. And in the long term bitcoin could see a rapid surge in prices and open up a new market for Amazon.

Well that might be just for amazon.com or amazon.us . Well if it's for the entire Amazon thingy then it's a pretty good news . I was really searching for a way to officially buy things from Amazon without buying vouchers / gift card or even depending on other people to buy it for me and I paying them .

You will never find anything related to that news because that just another rumor that already created by those are trying to hype the bitcoin. Is there a people buying in this rumour?  ;D

The predicted increase in bitcoin prices starts to materialize, with google already admitted payments through bitcoin, maybe in the future amazon and other companies will also follow google, ebay and paypal to admitted bitcooin payments. That's all is a good first step for bitcoin prices to always increase in the future.

If true, that would help legitimize Bitcoin. It would also encourage competitors of Amazon to adopt a similar policy whether accepting Bitcoins or another cryptocurrency.

My guess is that big retailers will need to start doing this to keep up with technology and the needs and demands of the customers. They need to be more on the cutting edge rather than falling behind. It's just something they will have to start doing.

If Amazon end's up accepting Bitcoin then it would make my life a whole lot easier. I can also imagine the large profit margins of sites like shapeshift.io increasing and the exchanges growing astronomically. October is started now but I didn't find bitcoin payment window in the amazon.com or their other european domains. I have read that information and news in cryptocompare in the forum but there is no legit press release from the chair persons or financial advisers.

Most it are just rumor still I'm hoping for Amazon if they will accept digital currency as payment before December. It might begin an unbalance ratio between ratio supply and demands though.

If this is really true that Amazon would accept bitcoin as payment then this would be one step to global acceptance. Bitcoin community will have now the options to used bitcoin directly to buy things from Amazon. It will benefits both the market and Amazon itself. There might be challenges for sure, like the price volatility of bitcoin. But if they were able to successful implement it, other big and popular online store would follow the lead by Amazon. Let us see if this will come into reality.

the Litecoin part. Litecoin blocks are basically empty, which implies that the coin is barely used
to transact at all. Therefore it would not make much sense to add LTC payments.

there has been no information about what steps will be taken by amazon, we have to wait until there is an official decision because without such a thing then everything is currently only limited speculation. it could happen and could not happen. so it's better to just sit there and wait so that no speculator can affect the bitcoin price in the global market share.

Interestingly though we hear that Amazon subsidiary has registered for Cryptocurrency and Ethereum Domains. It looks like they are working in this space and would be interesting to see what shape it takes.

Yeah amazon is accept the bitcoin for the online purchase. it is inter nation online shop so it will accept the all purchase for the future improvement. Country people it will be using. So it good to purchase for the online shop. It will give more information for the online purchase.

In other words, these are old projects that begin to operate in a new way, while using the crypto currency as a payment. Of course This is a huge plus not only for Bitcoin users, but also for the trading platform itself. The domains could've been secured to prevent other entities from acquiring them or they could actually be considering adopting BTC or ETH, whichever its an exciting development if they do accept those in future as that would be a massive boon for cryptos all round!
