This is from september 23rd, and nothing happened.

This isn't even from this year. It's from 2014, 3 years ago, back when the fee to send BTC was very low. I'm sure Bill Gates has changed his mind on Bitcoin(to a negative one) specifically, seeing as it's proven to be extremely slow depending on the amount of transactions going, and having very high fees.

Bill Gates wasn't the main trigger for bitcoin price gaining. CBOE, CME bitcoin futures, different hedge funds, positive news and many other were the main reason why bitcoin was growing!

sure Bill gates statement had a positive effect on bitcoin and crypto currency in general and he  said what we are trying to convince the world with that crypto currency is the future of the world financial system but coming from the founder of Microsoft will surely has a bigger effect on the community  ;)

We know Bill is intelligent and indeed knew what he was saying because it seems to be the order of the day and bitcoin keeps rendering major fiats around the world useless by the rate of it's growth against those currencies.

and viewing the pages will involve a micro financial transaction but poor old bill will have to re-think his plans.

BTC transactions fees are much too much and the network won't scale to support large transactions, never mind
small ones but when he does decide on the currency then the public address will become a super cookie so that
his friends in the CIA can follow you even more.

He just liked the concept that you are able to make millions of dollars worth of deal or carry million around the world easily with the help of bitcoin and on that context bitcoin is better than fiat currency but when it comes to micro transactions we still need fiat or another crypto currency with much lower transaction charges.

Billgates said that because bitcoin has the potential to move forward in the future and the existence of fiat may vanish.
For me, fiat currency and bitcoin have their own advantages and disadvantages, bitcoin can access throughout the world, can transact easily, fast and reliable and of course, decentralized. On the other hand, fiat currency is more reliable for the person who do not know how to use gadgets, can transact offline and without the use of internet and you hold it physically unlike bitcoin.
I believe that the uniqueness of both of them contribute to the wellness of our society now.

It's always great when people in the public eye draw attention to Bitcoin. And they have the money to make anything happen. If they say it's the future then it will be.

With all my respect to bill gates vision and success i think that people who make  such declarations about bitcoin are just hopping on the bandwagon because of the popularity that bitcoin is gaining and you can't take what they say seriously no matter how much of a savant they look.

We all know that bitcoin is way better than the official currency, but I do not understand how it can help the global financial technology, because the global financial technology works based on the unlimited money creating system? Deposits and withdrawals to online gambling sites is the best example why bitcoin is unlike better, because you can do it anonymously and without any restrictions. Now compare this with the public currency processing, starting with the opening of a payment processor account and KYC procedures!

Yes because this is all around the world that's why the price also are base in the world's money like different fiat.We can think that crypto currencies are good to called like international money because this is like bank that can bring so much conveniece in buying all around the world,In the future it can happen base on history.

Yeah the way he is talking right now is very similar tto how he talked about the internet in the mid 1990's on talk shoows and people were like... "what is the internet" and laughing and stuff, but he knew his stuff.

Bitcoin is for investment. Other ideals in a good digitalized-medium of payment like anonymity, lightning transfer and minimal deductions is what Bitcoin lacks, so there are wide array of Altcoins to patch these holes.

He does hold a descent amount of power over the mind set of people..well all the people who are unsure about investing in bitcoins do feel a lot more safe when people say something like that and those people who...do hold a lot of power over everyone.
But one should also remember this that a newbie cannot invest that much amount that will make the amount to increase by 4 times, so it was bound to happen.

For some reason I just imagine Bill Gates buying into bitcoin before saying that comment, and then dumping all of his BTC at around $20,000 USD.

McAfee over Gates in terms of tech/coding ability, but keep in mind these guys are way over the hill and hardly on the cutting edge any more.

Words spoken by experienced and successful people are mostly true because they have achieved a lot not just because of their luck but because of their knowledge and their effort which they put in different sectors.

it is a funny thought because people like Bill Gates don't need the money that such actions can give them. they make that money so much easier with so much less risk in a short time. they don't need to do it with the high risk bitcoin.

and when you remove the monetary goals then you have a free mind to see only the real potential of the technology that bitcoin has. the power of decentralization that bitcoin introduced to us in form of a digital currency which is gaining more support every day.

Bill Gates and John McAfee are futurist, they can see the positive effect of Bitcoin on our economy and technology. They see the potentials of using electronic currencies as a direct competitor or an alternative of fiat.

Good to see that people do discuss over the positive statements towards Bitcoin. Until now I had seen only the threads where people used to discuss about the negative statements made from people like Jamie and other wall street officials. Bitcoin is indeed a better currency and technology. It just needs a little bit more of development so that it can tackle the upcoming issues. If Nakamoto would have still developed the currency then BTC would have crossed a million dollars by now.

Yes, he is clearly open minded. Peter Thiel made similar comments aswell regarding bitcoin. I believe the broader public and financial sector is already beginning to open its eyes to the potential with all cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin is not "better", it is completely different. It holds lots of hope and opportunities as thanks to the blockchain, you are no longer dependent on large institutions that actually control the market. Of course, "large" bitcoin owners may influence rates... But nothing comparable with the manipulations that can currently be made by traditionnal banks!

I don't know how much Billy knows about bitcoin but... He is just a rich man. Him saying that bitcoin is great does not make bitcoin great. Bitcoin is great in itself and don't need recognition from billionnaires. I am quite fed up with all these posts about "famous people" endorsing bitcoin. We don't need it. If you believe in bitcoin, your actions are far more important than statement from Billy or Marcky! ;)

To know that this person do believe in cryptocurrency is a good thing and this statement will surely gives a good signals that really a fan of Bill Gates and it’s company.. If he does invest in it can do make a difference with all his money he can make bitcoin price in new heights in second.. most of the technologically advanced minded people have been open minded about bitcoin too. you can't see any one of them making weird comments about bitcoin.
all the negativity and FUD always comes from "businessmen" who are making a living by trading. they spread it to get a possible better position and make more money. and the "broader public" has been falling for this FUD so far. but slowly they stop believing it.

And now even the banks are after Crypto with Ripple, they have missed out on the BTC / ALT growth era and now selling tokens in a wealth reversal that will be reflected against the US dollar that could be worth from 5c to $1.50, and even then they are not accepting FIAT for the purchases... Does this tell you something?

Bill Gates really wasn't joking when he said that bitcoin is better than fiat currency.The one of the most influencial and most rich person in the world really find that bitcoin will surpass the fiat money because of its huge price and rapidly increasing value.

That would be possible if they solve the main problems of btc like transaction fees and slower confirmations, if the core devs remain silent about this concerns it would just stay in the position of what we know about this currency and that is the fact that it is more recommended to make an investments for this coins rather than spending it though we can use this for a larger transactions and bulk addresses with just the right amount of fee for the tx size.

Bill Gates opinion is very good and invites many investors to invest in bitcoin.
I also believe bitcoin is better than real currency because bitcoin gives us many advantages.

People who already believed in the bitcoin and made the investment earlier in the time are already blessed with power of the bitcoin and they already have seen what bitcoin can do. When powerful man like Bill Gates states something about the bitcoin then it does really matter a lot because such people are very very excellent in understanding the advancement in the technology. So if Bill already has speculated something positive about the bitcoin then just imagine what bitcoin can really do in the future. Who knows he might have invested huge money into the bitcoin and could be the next driving force for it.  8)

Fiat currency is too restricted in the sense of transferring the large amount of digital load but bitcoin can run big algorithm and transfer any kind of money we want. However there are still many development are underway but thats just matter of time when we will be done. :-) So yeah its best investment really!
