Title: Do you think there will be a market for coins used for online tipping?
Post by: AgNaCl on September 23, 2017, 03:46:30 PM
How will cryptocurrencies fare that mainly focus on tipping streamers and other entertainers online? For example, a coin with a function similar to Bits on Twitch, but with monetary value. Even if this market is small, I think it still has potential to grow as there are few coins that offer such a feature. The only one I can think of is 2Give, which provides a similar function. Are there any competitors you know of?

I like 2Give for that, but also take a look at Reddcoin, they have similar tip functions.

On-line tipping is a great idea but it should be implemented in a nice way like the Android app or IOs app. Through this app anybody could have getting theirs solution to the problem they have immediately. And finally i say that, a crypto-coin for this business should come into the market.

ArtByte, the coin that supports artists & musicians has very active tipping activity. Tipping is only a small part of how ArtByte supports artists.

Yeah it's gonna be big. 2Give seem to be leading the way in that field, and is still very cheap.

What I can say about the tipping "industry" is that it is very much alive and well. Dogecoin, despite all its criticisms, will continue to serve this main purpose. Just look online at any casino or place that allows Doge, and see people tipping it all the time. Even giveaways still do this. But considering purely "artistic" tipping, there are a few alts. Artcoin, if you must, is purely based on this.

I ask myself "why is a special token needed for online tipping ?"

This is a functionality that could be implemented easily enough with the currently existing tokens with a major market cap. Why couldn't we tip with BTC ? Because the transaction fees are too high...currently.

Look at the tipping bots that are on slack.. I know that dash had one quite a while back.. If only I knew how  to get the money from there that i had been tipped lol, it was only a dollar at the time and it's worth 35 now !

Absolutely true, I agree with you, there is no need for even blockchain based tokens, you pay usd to get tokens which are just numbers in your account and you use it on specific platform.

If you look at other solutions like PayPal subscription/donation, Patreon, GoFundMe, etc... they all charge a high fee. Bitcoin in that respect is less expensive, but still has a high transaction fee compared to other altcoins. Altcoins can innovate when it comes to subscriptions via smart contracts. Online streamers that can tipped by their viewership and some have monthly subscriptions from their viewership. Instead of Patreon taking 5%, recipient can keep more of their money through an altcoin. You can support an artist for 6 months in return for a painting. You can set up a trust that releases 5% of the fund annually for operating budget. Give your kid allowance. One off tipping can be with any altcoin, but recurring is where the innovation will occur.

Their is no trading in the 2give coin then what will be the value if the tipper gets 2give coin for his tippings , so i think it is totally waste to use 2give for tipping. I think it is much better to keep through btc and not through any other token.

Yep, I agree with you. RDD could be and is used to give tips on Twitter and on its own website, though you need to purchase it with BTC.
