Title: are my GPU's throttling?
Post by: qiuness on May 30, 2013, 02:42:52 PM
CGminer shows average lower then 5s speeds?

What's up with that?

That's almost always going to be the case due to the nature of averages.

I don't think there's any throttling going on. However, I would try increasing powertune if you haven't. The target amperage is sometimes too low to maintain OC clocks.

What gpus are those specifically? device 0 and 2= 6950s?

1x7950 (MSI Piece of shit)
1x6970 (GIgabyte)
1x5870

other CGMiners show the data correctly (although not all):

Woah 5000+ rpm? What are your fan settings? That's way too high for your current temperatures.

^Agreed, I didn't see that.

You should be able to extract 500 min. at stock clocks from most any 7950 (unless you have powertune dynamically throttling).

Let me know what your config parameters are OP.

After you have things running, try zeroing the statistics again to get a more accurate average.

you have something off going on there ,specially with the 7950 msi ...twin frozr ?

i have 2 ,on xubuntu these settings :
--shaders 1792 --gpu-engine 1075 --gpu-memclock 1500 --temp-target 75 -I 20 -w 256 --lookup-gap 2 --thread-concurrency 21712

and they are 71c 2400rpm~ 660khs

cooltobe.. are your cards LIGHT as hell.. i mean half the weight of a normal 7950...i`m afraid that these are somehow hot genuine:

My settings for it are TC 19000, lookupgab 2, stock settings no OC.
the card:

hmmm..not the TF ....using risers ? open air rig ? you should at least hit 550 with a 7950 .

No dummy plugs?

I'm 99% certain that is a legitimate card, my 7950 weighs less than my 6870, heh. I think the weight depends on the heatsink construction mostly. Nice setup!

Try a higher thread concurrency, I run 24000 on mine.

^ Dummy plugs do nothing but prevent your cards from entering ULPS (ultra low power state), which can often also be disabled through registry entries.

It's not something I've had to deal with for a good while now, I think the newer drivers eliminated the issue for most.

didnt know that about dummy plugs.. i thought they are used to get them turning on if they have no monitor attached..

I use Catalyst 12.8.
EFX what registry hack?

With 24000 the hashrate of the 7950 jumps around like crazy...
ACtually it stabilized (thread concurrency @ 24000):

Yes, essentially that is what they are for. The cards are still 'on' technically, and I believe there is some way to wake them up from this state that we are not aware of.

I have not used that^ program, not necessary imo. Trixx and Afterburner can usually sort out ULPS for you, if necessary.

Is that the 7950 at 502 kh/s?

That's basically what I'm getting with reaper with 24000 thread concurrency and 13.6 beta at stock clocks. There's further tweaking you can do probably at stock settings to get a little more hashrate, however everyone getting 600+ is OCing afaik. There's an ideal core to clock ratio that also seem variable even to a bios version level.  Start around .7 ratio and go down (probably) looking for improvements.

Oh also, you can usually get over 500 kh/s from 6970s at around 950/1320 with reaper. I use 8144 thread concurrency and two or 4 threads, 18 aggression.

Thanks for the tips.. i`ll try them out.
I don't run trixx or Afterburner... but i`ll install them on the miners

Did you have to get special wiring to support all those GPU's?

One circuit in my house only supports up to around 1500 watts.
