hi guys, I'm guys wondering what is myetherwallet.com, they say that it isn't a wallet? but can we use it as wallet to store our ETH?
and the next question is, if we have token, how can we convert it to ETH or BTH using myetherwallet.com?

Myetherwallet is a website where you can generate and access your address. Read the site carefully, because it can be confusing the first time you use it. When you've created an address, you can use that to receive coins. You can access the site later to send the coins to someone else.


If you have tokens, you can't convert it to ETH of BTC using this site. You have to send it to an exchange where you can trade them for other coins.

It is an online wallet for ETH tokens. I use it for a number of mine. Great for Ethereum in general, but also for tokens created under them. Makes it easy to store and add the new custom tokens until those tokens get their own unique wallet. Just read thought the site to set it up properly.

like for example a campaign give me some token, does this token automatically added as new token? sorry for a newbie question, im just learning this stuff

MyEtherWallet is a client side wallet for ETH and ERC20 tokens. I am using it on offline air gapped computer , and making offline transaction, so my priv key never touch the internet. it is very safe to do that with a computer without network card.

i see, for example, the campaign manager is sending me a new token from the campaign, do I need to add the token first before they send it to me?

Yes, you can add custom tokens in mew, then you can see the balance of that token when they send it to you. You can receive it even when you don't add it first but you need to add it so you can see it in your balance.

I am fairly new into using it but I dont think this is correct.
The wallet itself is client side so not really an online wallet, more an online portal that allows you to access your offline wallet. I think it works completely offline too, but I wouldnt know how to do it.

I think its good and supports the -20 standard of Ethereum tokens apparently (I have my PoSTokens from the 1st airdrop there - hoping for ones from the second airdrop https://airdrop.postoken.org/?r=mz4ks4mv)

Myetherwallet is not a website...
It's an interface between the blockchain and your computer. Contrary to usual website where you store content on it, you don't store your private key and your coin on this wallet, it just shows you what is in the blockchain, so you can access your amount of coins.

Its a site to generate and use Ethereum addresses which supports all the tokens which are created on the ETH platform. You cant sell or purchase the tokens on the site as they dont have their own exchange like the waves platform.

Myetherwallet is a ETH wallet which support the ERC20 tokens, many ICO's now a days using ERC token to send you and only some wallets support ERC tokens. No exchange wallet can be used to get ERC tokens. There is only one disadvantage of myetherwallet is that if you lost your private key, you lost all your coins in the wallet. Save your private key in safe place otherwise you cannot retrieve your coins.

all tokens from smartcontract also go there

myetherwallet.com is a web wallet just like blockchain.info, you can't you it to convert your Ethers to BTC the links on it are from third party ads, so they are independent on MEW, though most of those exchanges are trusted exchanges

It is a client side wallet for ETH and ERC20 tokens. I use it and it's very useful because with it you can safely store not only ETH and ETC, but tokens you buy from ICOs or get from signature campaigns as well.

You can't convert ETH to BTC on myetherwallet because it is not an exchange. For it you may use regular exchange, decentralized exchanges like Waves platform or you may ask some user on this forum.

Myetherwallet is very easy way of generating ether wallets. You just need file and password to save on your computer. You don't need to download blockchain. I suggest you to use it.

if you want to convert ETH to BTC you can by using myetherwallet because it is not an exchange.

You don't need to get worry actually, even you have any token in your MEW you can convert it into eth by simply proceeding in any Trading exchange platform that has Eth then if your token in MEW is also listed in the exchange platform you can send your token in the Platform then once has been send it will automatically converted into your Eth balance of course.

If you want to create a new wallet without having to download the blockchain and do not wish to download a big part of it, you can simply use the web based application, MyEtherWallet. You can send/receive/store ETH and other ETH based tokens. Just have multiple backups of your private key and keep safe your keystore file.

Kinda newbie question but I want buy nano ledger s so I need create for example account on MyEtherWallet and via MyEtherWallet  transfer crypto to my nano ledger? Is that correct? Thank u

This is a wallet to get ERC20 tokens as no exchange wallet approve ERC tokens and if you put your exchange wallet to get your ERC tokens, you never get that. You have to save yur private key otherwise you cannot do anything in your wallet.

How is this possible to do? I mean sending ether offline?

All the instructions say that I should do this on an offline-computer. But how is that possible? I mean the computer needs to be online at some point to be able to generate the MyEtherWallet adress: "Generate & Send Offline Transaction". Otherwise I don't have a place to paste my password right?

Let's say I have two computers and one of them is never online. How can that computer be used for sending ether offline? If it is never online it cannot get into the above tab that and then paste the UTC-file in step 2, right?

What do  people mean by these transactions that they are saying they send offline? Do they use two computers for which one of them is not offline at the moment you paste the private key in there? Or is it never connected to the internet at all?

 They may say its isn't a wallet because it doesn't hold any Fiat currency and only cryptocurrency with its approximate value in dollar or other currency.

yes you need to still create first a myetherwallet account in order for you to link that account on your hardware wallet. you can also transafer crypto from nano ledger to myetherwallet or myetherwallet to nano ledger (vice versa ).



the first step of the instruction clearly state that you need an online computer first to do the process and secondly you need an offline computer to generate the transaction.

Sad that the team is tired, because it is very useful service. Wish that this takeover or reorganization will improve stability and security.

MyEtherWallet For me is the best where you can store ERC20 .
i guess for me it is too risky to put all your Eth on MEW.

MEW is a very secured wallet, if you heard someone got hack that is simply someone had an access with his keys and password, it's like someone hacked your fb account because he knows your password but technically he didn't hacked fb itself.

someone cannot possibly knows or access your acount imediately if he doesnt know your credentials, not unless your too dumb enough to visit a phising site that is verry similar to the original ones.  @op transfering your coins to another purse wont help you also because almost all wallets are plain simillar and mew itself is verry safe although there were few feedbacks (bad feedbacks) about this wallet because they said theyve been hacked or got phised but that is actually their problem and not on the wallet.

myetherwallet is in fact a wallet to store eth and etc and all it's respective erc20 tokens, which are build on top of those platforms.

I do not want to say like other it supports ERC20 tokens. Since it is web wallet we cannot say this as a standard web wallet. Here on this wallet you able to do the offiline transaction as well.
I do not think there are web wallets which can unlock the wallet with the keystore file, private key, trezor file and etc. Other wallets does not give that option at all.
If you need to make the transaction, you should have the ethereum in your wallet to consolidate the gas fee.

I use myetherwallet to store my erc20 base tokens and im confident that my tokens are safe on that wallet. Even a lot of members says that myetherwallet can be hacked which im not convince.

If you want to convert a token to the ETH, you have to sure that token already to be listed in the market, and you can use etherdelta. Import your myetherwallet account to etherdelta and sell your token become ETH.  After your token was sold your token will be converted to ETH, and then you can export from etherdelta to your myethereum account for withdrawal by the exchanger.

so far I consider myetherwallet as my personal wallet where I keep my coins from this forum. if you ask where to redeem your coin to eth or btc. maybe you can search first the market where you will sell your coins. after you get the market where you will sell then send your coin to that market and sell it to eth or btc. thank you that I know further you can ask to more experienced.

I also agree with you and yes, the only key you need to access your funds in the wallet is your private key and when this key is lost, you will be unable to access you funds. That is why it is advisable to always keep this key very private and avoid disclosing it to a third party.

I would always be concerned if it involves storing my private keys online.  Things get hacked and if your private key gets hacked, you can lose everything.
