Title: Lets get www.fairphone.com to ship with Bitcoin Software Preloaded!
Post by: crazy_rabbit on May 31, 2013, 08:29:25 AM
First Look at this: http://www.fairphone.com/

It's a fantastic idea, lets try and get them to be even more fantastic by asking them to have Bitcoin Software ship preloaded on the phone. Of course we can't the whole blockchain in the thing, so what is the second best alternative?

Andreas Schildbach's Bitcoin Wallet (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.schildbach.wallet) seems a pretty good alternative.

Although it really needs wallet encryption, I hope that will be implemented soon.

I have also written them to accept Bitcoin. It's a great marketing opportunity for Bitcoin, enabling a fairly made and produced smart phone.

Even though it offers "root access", is the phone still able to be spied upon and tracked? (I think most still ping while "off"?)

Wow, that so reminds me of my fav droid phone :( i wish i had the money, id so buy one. I hope they do well, would be cool if they added a lightweight bitcoin client to it(one that has encryption).

This will so be my next phone, I absolutely love the idea behind it.
Though I'm not sure if it's a great idea to bundle Bitcoin client with the phone. Of course it would be a great way to promote Bitcoin but I think the majority of paying customers wouldn't appreciate pre-installed "unessential" software on their phone, which they may conciser useless to them. Or at least I hate when new devices come with bloatware which I cannot uninstall.
