Title: XAPO are now allowing people to withdraw their bitcoincash
Post by: alyssa85 on September 27, 2017, 09:15:57 AM

They're giving people two options a) withdraw the bitcoincash and b) sell the BCH for bitcoin.

But they're setting a deadline of December 14th 2017. If you haven't withdrawn or sold by then, you lose your bitcoincash coins.

It was time that they finally made a stance on Bitcoin Cash and the best part is that everyone who had coins can make a choice to instantly get some quick cash by selling the BCH or holding onto them. Took them long enough to push this move but I'm happy more exchanges are not turning out to eat the BCH they acquired during the hard fork.

I bet you anything most of their users don't see the blogpost though (they tend to just use the XAPO card and not go to the website much), and don't realise they have just 2 and a half months to get their BCH coins out.

It's a smart move from them. Most people won't see it and then they "forfeit" their right to those coins which XAPO then gets to sell.

I hope people on this forum at least see the news - though most don't bother to look in this particular sub-section. Oh well.

At least they didn't sell user's bch like localbitcoins, they're giving option to the users to sell or withdraw. i wonder why this isn't on cointelegraph or other bitcoin news sites.

I think those who lucky are those who holding a huge amount of bitcoin before the fork..
Well i think its not worth it to get my bitcoin cash there because i only have few bitcoins left i think around 0.005 so if i withdraw or exchange the bitcoin cash from xapo its not worth it..
But i think much better to holding them in bitcoin cash wallet maybe bitcoin cash can be burst increase in the future..

It's been prominently displayed in the wallet section for quite sometime. You'd have to be pretty dim to miss it.

I got rid of mine there. Wish I'd gotten rid of the rest I have. The only news on the horizon is staggering increases in supply. Coin base will be the big one but xapo is over half a million on its own.

Nice this is a good move for those people that stored a lot of bitcoins at their xapo cold storage account.

I want some more good news on them and that would be the reduction of their fees, that is a better news.

Yeah it's good to know that they took care of the BCH's of their customers.

Mine is even lower.

That's not exactly true... they're simply going to convert them into BTC at the going rate and deposit to your account.

What will happen if I decide to keep my BCH? Will Xapo allow me to operate with Bitcoin Cash?
Xapo will not support BCH in any way after December 14th, 2017. Users will have until that date to decide if they want to sell or withdraw their BCH. If you do nothing with your BCH by that date, then Xapo will automatically sell any remaining BCH balances for BTC and credit the corresponding value in BTC to the customer's wallet.

What will happen if I don’t withdraw or sell my Bitcoin Cash by December 14th, 2017?
You will not lose your coins and Xapo will not keep unsold Bitcoin Cash for itself.

If we receive no further action from you before this date, your Bitcoin Cash balance will automatically be sold and the value will be added to your Bitcoin wallet.

Please note the amount received will reflect the market rate at the time the sale is executed.

TL;DR:
Sell or withdraw your BCH from Xapo before Dec 14, or they'll sell it on your behalf at "market rates" and put the BTC value into your wallet...

It's a whole let better than Bitmex. Bitmex said either withdraw your bitcoins before the fork if you want bch or we'll keep whatever turns up. Now people are whining about this despite it being clearly stated.

I had transferred all my BTC to my desktop wallet and left with few Santoshi in xapo wallet and today they allowed to exchange those few Santoshi as well. No fee for conversion and it is a very simple process to convert.

The time is given for exchange or withdraw is good enough for everyone and also they send emails to all registered accounts so they should know what to do.

Personally i'd be taking the converting from BCH to BTC route because it's just a hassle to get a BCH wallet, especially if you have no real intentions in using the coin or holding it anyways. Of course that's different if you want to speculate on its price.

Thanks to the people working at Xapo for finally doing this.

Been a long time since 1st August, though. They should have implemented this sooner.

Oh, that's not that bad, I thought it meant if you didn't you forfeited your right to the BCH and they just took it. That's really not that bad for a dumb altcoin.

Yep it's much better than those other exchanges that doesn't have any plans of distributing the BCH's of their customers.

And this is less time consuming for their users as they will automatically send it to the wallet of those people that has bitcoin during the hard fork.

So they do care for their customers.

Well that was a long wait.

I doubt that there will be many people that has any sort of BCH balance on Xapo at all because Xapo did not give out a specific timeline for the events after 1st August and most people withdrew their balances beforehand.

But yeah, kudos to them for making this happen, at least. But they are probably one of the slowest exchanges/wallets to do so.

I received an email from them this morning as well, it looks like at last they are giving us the opportunity to withdraw our BCH coins when this should have been done at max 2-3 weeks after 1st August when the split happened.

They're probably the second last major bitcoin wallet provider(coinbase is last) to allow BCH withdrawals.

Not impressed by it at all, but at least tehy are allowing it.

Well yes, there will be a dip in BCH prices as the Xapo coins hit the market, and then again in Jan with Coinbase. But after that it's over. BCH is a good hedge just in case the next fork in Nov damages bitcoin.

It is high time they did that, apparently, they have noticed they have been doing so little in the competition to attract wallet users and a good news for those who had cash back them in their xapo wallet. At least they can sell for a better price now if they want to. They could have given them earlier and sold when the value drastically came down from all the huge dumps. However, what is the point with the deadline?

I use Xapo and I was happy with the stance they took on the issue of BCH. They made it clear that " we won't rob you of your BCH but we won't run it. Take it out or we convert it for you" and that's gentle man enough if you ask me. I will be going with the option of direct conversion to the balance and just get away with the BCH coin altogether in other to prepare for the next air drop coming in few weeks from now.

Damages Bitcoin? You mean take its market down temporarily, right? There is no way that all miners will be in favor of initiating that fork aside from a few malicious miners that are looking to bank on another chain split. BCH isn't a good way to hedge Bitcoin, nor will it ever be. Bitoin Cash is nothing more than an obsolete shitcoin that even in the altcoin market, has nothing to contribute. You are aware of the fact that people buying themselves into BCH are indirectly sponsoring the JihanWu cartel, right? If you look to hedge Bitcoin in the runup to a certain event, which is perfectly fine, then there are enough altcoins for you to convert to.

They are faster than Coinbase :D
I'm glad that I withdraw all my btc from Xapo before fork and I didn't had to wait so long to get my BCH.
I don't think that these news is important for many users. Mostly people withdraw their btc from Xapo before August 1st. But it's good that Xapo didn't robbed users BCH. Anyway, Xapo will benefit a little from BCH, because there still will be some users, who will not take their BCH until deadline

The only way that will benefit Xapo is if they screw their customers on the sell rate, as they've stated that at the deadline they will simply sell the BCH "at market rates" and credit the customers BTC...

Is that so? That would be a big opportunity for BitcoinCash (BCH) to be a fine altcoin, but in some exchange sites they allow it I think 1 month after the fork and I'm glad XAPO does the same. Hoping that many more will recognized BCH as a fine altcoin for this year and in the coming years. And maybe BCH will be a good help if the upcoming hard fork this November will be implemented.

I have been using xapo's debit card since a year and i had 1.7 bitcoins in xapo wallet on the day of bitcoin fork.
Being honest, i never noticed their update about bitcoin cash withdrawal as i thought they would not let us avail forked currency.
This post helped me reminding about my BCC and wow, my cash is still there.
I got $686 of bitcoin cash, thanks for creating this thread.

At least Xapo allow their users to withdraw bitcoin cash from their wallet earlier than users that are using Coinbase web wallet, I think Coinbase really needs to step up and improve their customer service if they plan on expanding their customer base, Coinbase users have to wait until January 2018 to be credited for bitcoin cash is a very bad idea.

As far as I am aware, Blockchain.info have not delivered either. On one side, with them you already have access to the provate keys and you could do it yourself, but they did promise to add an easy way to obtain your bitcoin cash and it still isn't there. The deadline is also quite close, as it has been a solid few weeks since the announced it.
