Title: MyEtherWallet Question
Post by: hous26 on September 27, 2017, 08:32:29 PM
What happens if you send tokens to your wallet if you hadn't added the coin info to your wallet?  Like the address, decimal and ticker info.

Thanks!

You receive the token but it is not shown in myetherwallet. Whenever you add it, you can see it. And in any case you can see your balance in ethplorer or etherscan.

Your address will contain the coins.
Adding the token to MEW is just for display purposes :)

You receive the tokens and you can't display them. So you can enter the token info after you received the tokens. This doesn't create any problem in your wallet, be careful anyway.

That's right, you can see the history of your transactions using etherscan and it tracks the records of your recent transactions made. You can see the token sent to you unless it's not added already in the token list of myether site. You needed to provide manual token add to simply add the symbol and the decimal in order to make it shown in your wallet.

Spot on. I face the same problem with the OP as and of yesterday I didn't go the tokens I'm expecting. So what I did is add a custom token because its is not the default. The following info is what I added.

Contract:
Symbol:
Decimal:

And after that, the token has been received by MEW. If you haven't added it yet, you can check https://ethplorer.io/address/<Your Address> if you should have received something. Otherwise your wallet will be empty eventhough you have added the custom token info.

Don't worry about it, it will be stored on your myetherwallet and just to make it sure check it on ethplorer so that you can see your tokens are safe and can be found there.  Why are you asking this? In what situation are you dealing with right now?

There are many tokens in my MEW address that I have not even bothered to add the info.
I can see all those on etherscan.io fine. Will worry about adding the info when I need to sell or
send somewhere. Life would be much easier if one doesn't have to find out
the token address, decimals etc. to add to MEW and it automatically shows the tokens like
etherscan does. May happen in a future release.

Thanks for asking. I haven't had this problem yet myself, but I've been wondering what would happen

You will not able to send your token because your token are not displayed on the list of the erc20 token, which mean to send your token you must add the custom token. Or you can't do anything with your token too.

Yeah i think that your problem has already been solved, but i had an issue like that a few months ago when i bought my first tokens from an ICO, i was dessesperated because i could not see the coins that i bought on myetherwallet, i contacted to the founders of the ico and they told me that the coins were already on my wallet, but that i should add the info to my wallet in order to be able to see them, so it is so easy.

there are 3 situations when you send without adding it :
1) you can see the name of the coin but not the price (so you need to add decimals to "watch" it)
2) you can see the name and the price (most of the coins you dont even need to watch because they are in the MEW database)
3) you see only numbers and letters + the quantity (so u need to add the coin or to wait until it'll be added to the MEW database)

this no problem with ur account , your wallet need to add custom token , then ur token will showing the balance.
trying to click "Add Custom Token" then copy the token information from your ICO Project token type. like a name , address and decimal. ;)

The tokens will still arrive to your wallet address and you can add the token information later to have it appear in your MEW address.  Just be sure that the tokens you are sending are ERC20 tokens.  Don't send coins or tokens from non Ethereum platforms to MEW or they will be lost.

I think you will not be able to send it, because if you have not added ticker, decimal, and address, the token will not be visible in MEW ;D

The token will display automatically in MEW account after the token is verified. Yes also if not added the token details on MEW will not able to send it.

You can still find the transaction or transactions via ethplorer, all you have to do is supply your address  ;)

You must add custom custom first then the coins will appear automatically.

https://etherscan.io/token-search

hope this helps.

sending a token on a wallet where it is not listed yet is possible, but you can't view it directly on your wallet. In some wallets like Myetherwallet they use to tell user to put the unlisted tokens to the add custom section for you to view your unlisted tokens from this way you can assure that your tokens are safely stored and all you need to do is to wait for it to be listed.

Your account contains all received coins, even if you haven't added manual token. To check that, you can use etherscan. But pay attention that If you do not add custom token, it will not shown in your wallet.
