Title: [2-17-09-29] Russia may prohibit the use of cryptocurrencies!
Post by: DowBit on September 29, 2017, 03:27:52 PM
Russia seems to be changing its stance towards Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Just one month earlier, we were able to see smiling Buterin signing an agreement with Russian banks on partnership with Ethereum. Now, suddenly, it seems that Russia can completely ban cryptocurrency payments.

When you read some headline about Russia and cryptocurrencies, you should actually notice that it's always different officials who voice their opinions - President's advisors, MP's, central bank officials, finance ministry officials, etc. etc. Russia is a whole is still undecided and they are calculating whether Bitcoin can be beneficial in some way for their government or can it be harmful. So it's better to take all the news about Russia and Bitcoin with a grain of salt, as no one can really tell what is going to ultimately happen with its legal status there.

There is a great interest with cryptocurrency right now in Russia and it seems that the government is welcoming the whole beast but things are still under deliberations and we can hear conflicting news coming from the Putin country. We have to wait until next year before the government can finally decide on what to do with Bitcoin. However, am very positive that eventually the government would lay down the framework for the recognition of Bitcoin and maybe Ethereum also.

Time and again I was proven correct. LOL. And just like what I'm expecting from them, they will always make a sudden U-turn about bitcoin. That's why you need to take everything not just a grain but with a bag of salt. But there's still hope though, I remember 2018 will be a make or break for them. Because this is the year that I'm seeing that they will eventually accepts or rejects bitcoin or crypto in general. A full backing from them will do more good than harm. So let's see again how this will pan out and I hope that they can proved me wrong in 2018.

Russia is going from one side to another. The news from China just shacked everybody. China is well known economical partner of Russia. Must be they are looking on China in their experience about crypto-currencies. I won't be surprised if we will hear soon "Russia bans ICO".
Meanwhile the news about ICO's banning by South Korea didn't affect the market. The price is growing!

Not long ago I've read the article about Putin supporting ETH and meeting up with Vitalik, and now supposedly they no longer like cryptos and want to ban them. I don't believe it. This article quotes only one minister who is against cryptos. He doesn't establish laws, but needs to persuade others to vote. With no more supporters willing to voice their concerns I don't think he'll achieve anything.

Russia will not ban cryptocurrency payments. Russia can support cryptocurrency against the Dollar Dictatorship

Because when it comes to government position on cryptocurrency, there's usually no single body that tells what is going to happen with legal status of cryptocurrency, it's many different people from different branches and cabinets that giver their own personal comments about cryptocurrencies - economy ministry, central banks, MP's, regulators, finance ministry and so on. It happens not only with Russia, other countries send mixed signals too - some people in the government would like to ban crypto, others want to embrace it. This is one of the reasons why so many countries haven't decided anything yet.

riiight,Putin has nothing else to do other than meet up with Vitalik  ;D
the article you have read claimed that Russia and Putin himself were supporting their own national cryptocurrency with blackjack and hoes
which is bull, because all info it ahd was about an mp CLOSE to Putin (again, according to the author) meeting up with Vitalik
but I do not think Russia will ban cryptocurrencies, there could be regulations though,to cut the capital flow, china style
lets wait and see,shall we

I start to think that somebody want just play on the role of such big bitcoin world participant as Russia and to make people panic. I am from Russia and I follow all news from my country around bitcoin. Our country make steps to bitcoin regulation, but for now there are only talks, but no any clear position in this case. I don't know Russia go by the rough way of China about crypto-currencies regulation or Japanese's one. Now we may only guess, but don't hurry to believe everything that you read on the forum.

They are like the type of a very careful country. Their decisions are affected by the recent events happening in China. It looks like that they are waiting for a good signal from every countries whether to support or prohibit the use if bitcoin.

To be fair, that is how it has been in most nations around the world, at the moment. Many have talked about it and maybe set up some sort of moderate regulation for it, but it is still considered a minor topic for most governments and has not reached a magnitude at which something has to be done about Bitcoin. If it does gain major mainstream adoption, I could see not just Russia, but other countries as well start regulating it more drastically to ensure that all of the monetary duties such as taxes are properly accounted for regardless of the currency in which transactions are executed or income is obtained. While I can't see Bitcoin being banned anywhere because of its nature, I can see restrictions being levied on those with significant Bitcoin holdings that could potentially prevent its growth.

I am predicting that eventually Russia will somehow recognize Bitcoin and some other cryptocurrencies in the market based on that fact that there are now many Russians who are really into Bitcoin and there are already many officials who agree that Bitcoin can be a good industry to help the country in terms of economic gains.

What is happening right now is just a healthy discussions and a heated discussion process that will eventually produce the necessary regulatory framework in which cryptocurrency and its players can be working on by next year. I am sure that Russia can be influenced by the ban made by China and the openness shown by Japan towards Bitcoin.

Which path Russia will eventually choose will be known next year.

...I am predicting that eventually Russia will somehow recognize Bitcoin and some other cryptocurrencies ...

Not only Russia, all countries will end on this statement, right now they are playing with all those decisions and looking sideways about what are doing his neighbours, but they will end in accepting it, simply because they can't reproduce the amount of hash needed to secure a new network, if you think on it carefully, the use of bitcoin could bring to them more "control" over us...

There will not be a single solution. Each country will try to control the Crypto currency in its own way. But now there is complete chaos. Nobody knows how to control crypto. So often we see bright headlines that some country prohibits crypto currency. In fact, this is impossible to do

I guess that they are just worried and haven't made up their mind yet so we shouldn't really pay attention until a final decision is made. We've seen so many news related to Russia lately, that it's hard to know their real position. We saw them welcoming miners, then we see this, and then we see them saying that crptocurrencies should be integrated in the financial education of his citizens. So there is only one thing we all know right now. They are aware of crypto, and are analyzing it carefully in order to make a good call about it. If they don't make any rush decisions like China did, and see how things unfold in Japan, everything should be fine.

A few weeks ago, I heard the Russian would design mining chips and build miners.
