Title: Electrum and Trezor
Post by: oitdmser on September 29, 2017, 09:59:34 PM
Been having the following issue: Initialized a new Trezor today using trezor.io. wallet is password protected. Sent some satoshis to it and trezor.io shows the transaction.

in an effort to be sure trezor.io isn't my only option, I tried to access that wallet using electrum. Used the following procedure:

File -> New/Restore -> standard wallet -> use hardware device and used the standard wallet address m/44'/0'/0' and all transactions are shown for what trezor.io calls the 'legacy' account.

Most of my bitcoins are in trezor.io main account. I did the above procedure using wallet address m/49'/0'/0' as per this discussion on reddit, still no balance or transactions shown in electrum: https://www.reddit.com/r/TREZOR/comments/6y9doe/segwit_wallets/
I checked the xpub addresses from trezor.io and electrum and the last 4 digits match, so I assume they're generating the same info. For some reason electrum doesn't load the balance and has the magic character error as mentioned above.

Trezor 1.5.2
Electrum 2.9.2 on OS X

Electrum (as at v2.9.3) does not yet support SegWit addresses...

With the latest Trezor firmware v1.5.2, the default Trezor wallet is generating SegWit addresses... And as you've discovered, these will not show in Electrum, only the Trezor "Legacy" wallet addresses will show.

Thomas has been working on SegWit support for Electrum v3.0 which is due out "soon"... Until then, you'll only be able to use your legacy Trezor addresses with Electrum.
