Title: ANTMINER D3 - Hacking, Reprogramming , Disassembly , Debugging, OS change
Post by: DANTER on September 29, 2017, 11:13:08 PM
Hi
As there is a lot off unknown future about the late batches of Antminer D3 , I would like to start a topic where we can share ideas about
alternative use of this hardware - different than X11 mining.

The interested aspects are:
- Can we install different OS on the machine ?
- Can D3 be reprogrammed to any different algo or X11 is the only one ?
- How the power of the machine can be used if not for mining ?
- Any interested ideas about alternative use of this equipment ?
- Any Links to sources with interested detailed information's , tech documentations , operating systems, circuit diagrams ?

I think this topic may become very good source of information's about Antminer D3

ASIC = "Application Specific" X11 is in its DNA.   Not sure you're going to have much luck teaching a hammer how to be a screwdriver, but if you do figure something out I'll be all ears.

Only mining x11.

Antminer d3 is an ASIC so there is no chance to reprogramming this device. You can start to reprogram a andminer s5 its more cheap and you will have more time to waste.
Good luck

1450$ for a D3 (https://shop.bitmain.com/productDetail.htm?pid=00020170817162128100hiH7jINR0692) , 30$/day still less than a 2 months ROI :) around 7 weeks :) as of today 9-30-2017
If you can make 15$/day the roi still going to be less than 14 weeks :) (3.5 months)
i would say that is still great ROI time :)

ROI is still good and better than BTC miners that are available from BITMAIN. My company does commercial mining and we are still getting orders once or twice a week for D3 Kits.

Those figures don't sound too exciting because they'll be more D3 batches released and the ROI will be extended.  I assume those figures are for mining Dash.  It might be better to mine a different x11 coin.  The difficulty will be lower and if you end up with a successful project, you can  make a lot more money than mining Dash.

I have two d3s about to be shipped. So disappointed. Don't think I'll be a bitmain customer ever again. By the time I get the miners, they'll earn 2$ a day? ROI 3 years maybe? At least it'll act as a heater for the winter months!

I've got 9 of these incoming in the next week or so, am pretty disappointed, but knew the risk. Assuming the diff. will be up to 30000k pretty soon, and the Dash price doesn't change much, after power it's a couple hundred bucks a month. Even say Dash goes up to $600 w/ a diff. of 50000k, it's maybe $1k a month.

Yep, it's pretty much a toaster. Would have been better off buying more L3+s.

From now on BITMAIN is swindler company ,They fooled their customers by selling D3 with their previous reputations.

i read in somewhere cannot find again D3 mainboard has a sd card slot onboard and linux programmer was trying to modify D3 to other algorithms.
will track this topic hope someone will modify and tell us here to.
Coder gets a hand on this.

you cant even sell these things anymore and make a profit. I bought some with btc and btc has gone up so much since i bought. I was better off just hodling the btc but oh well maybe im hoping a shitton of x11 shitcoins start coming out

Good evening, I have 6 on the way, Baikal Giant X10 supports 7 Algorithms, the ASCI chip should be similar.

Hello everyone, you guys should check out this thread. Pretty interesting stuff this guy did to his antminer d3.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2346161.0
He disassembled it and got it down to 750w at 15gh. Not bad at all.
Definitely worth checking out. Wonder what else people out there can do and share to improve these miners or paper weight.

Nobody solve this problem except BitmainTech
Lets join to change.org and support the idea

if you put one upstairs and one downstairs and make a system to connect it to the heating you wont need a boiler

haha. I run it during the off hours of my business and make money doing that. Much easier than hiring staff. There are lots of new X11 coins that are doing well. Buy and Hold or exchange them. Dash is getting more expensive as well so I would keep mining. I hope that one day that Dash will make a forked coin that is new and cheaper for regular transactions. As it becomes more expensive, it becomes an asset instead of a currency.
