Look at this picture of online model, this picture is produced by $60 camera. If You have no clue in lighting and composition, any camera help You not. Both are great but remember, once you pick one, you have to make sure whatever lenses you buy going forward are compatible (ie. you cant put a Nikon lens on a cannon camera).

On a side note, invest in some LED lights if you film indoors. They're very cheap nowadays. There are many Youtube videos getting great quality from a smartphone by using that trick. For example a sportshooter, doing baseball games will have a completely different requirements to someone doing family portraits. Maybe you like astro photography, maybe its street photography, or what about macro?
For what its worth I use Canon bodies, because when I started my friends were too, then I borrowed a lens or too. Once you have bought into a camera system, it makes it harder to switch. Today iŽd rather buy a mirrorless camera with Objectives to change because much lighter to carry. When i go on Vacation i would be very sad not to have the good one with me. I love the Quality of the Photos.
