I introduce you to my chrome extension, i made 3 months ago.

With the constant rise of all crypto-currencies in the world and their predestined future, it's time to keep an eye on the whole market cap.
Watch prices and variations of main crypto-currencies with this light but usefull chrome extension.

Price for BTC, ETH and XRP are taken from CoinmarketCap.

Hope this announce is posted to the right place, feel free to use it, and leave a comment  ;)

1.Please open-source the code to know what is happening behind the scenes that is make us believe your extension isn't a malware.

2.How can I use the extension if I'm on a different browser ? Ever thought of making your app available on all the engines ?  :(

3.Atleast 3 similar projects were posted in this thread in the last few days.Why everyone is so obsessed with coin-market-cap ?

1. The fact is Google Extension don't let power to the developper to hide malware in them. (At least to my knowledge, no access to local machine data or memory outside Chrome)
Just to be honest i just implement, and it's purely experimental, JSEcoin (https://jsecoin.com/) support. I just did that today, and testing their platform.
To make concise, JSEcoin let webmasters include a codesnippet to mine their specific coins and reward them without using ads on site(this coin is on testing and not available on any exchange).
Very light, and anonymous, no data collect.
As i said, i just added this for the curiosity. Will certainly remove it, or at least make it switchable.
As for CoinMarket price, i just use their API (https://coinmarketcap.com/api/), to display infos, that's all.

2/ That extension is my first attempt in extension development(started 3 months ago). Don't have enough recoil or advices to expand to others software.

3. 3 Projects ? Damn i didn't saw them. I just choose this one over others, just personal taste. But i devinitely have to investigate others projects you talked about.

Indeed, I have seen many people keep mentioning CMC and this site become more popular in this forum to check coins prices, which is good.
But, in the process, there are a lot of people trying to create their own app or extension in this case to notify, it's not bad as long as there is no malware inside or will harm you, but what is the point if I could check it without a notification as there are other bot on telegram that will notify through your phone, instantly, everywhere at any time.

I can totally understand that a telegram bot is quicker but it depends on user's habit/experience.
Some people like me, are in front of a PC screen 8 or more hours a day and i think the chrome extension is a better 'interface' for that case.
I just propose my solution, and it's totally your choice to use it or not. I'm not here to overcome over any others soft/services.

I think the price on Coinmarketcap isn't true sometime, like it's overrated or underrated all the time. The price on the exchager is the exactly price.

Thanks for sharing, do you have any issues with the API returning bad requests? Have you had issues with limiting?

In my opinion there is no need in such a thing. As it is stated above - we have some security-related thoughts, and using it will not be 100% comfortable. Telegram bot is a better solution.

Sorry for the long silence. The last month, i updated a lot (and in december too).
Last features added :

• a little Crypto Price Converter widget
• You can watch up to 5 cryptocurrencies from the whole coinmarketcap list!
• A little Layout Manager for the Popup : just two layout for now, but it will be completed

For source, there is nothing to worry about. Basically it's just an extension that do some API request (infos here : https://coinmarketcap.com/api/ ), so just reading infos.
I just use Chrome.Storage feature to memorize inputs in options page and data from api requests. I log nothing for myself (i first code this extension for me and a friend).
I just put a Google Analytics tracker in the background, just to watch new users from time to time.


Prices from CoinMarketCap are, i think, an average made from markets tab (https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin/#markets) so it's more precise than a price from one or two liked exchange


Let me know if you have some interesting ideas to add. Nothing too heavy, the extension have to remain light an simple though.

Security is the first thought that comes to my mind. Not sure how good Google's QA is before they approve an extension but there will always be resistance from users considering most of them use chrome browsers for day to day trading.

From my experience, everytime you include a .js file who does an a/synchronous connection, the extension is manually checked by them. If the connection is encrypted or cyphered (or even data are not clearly understable) somehow, it is automatically rejected. Believe me, the support Chrome store team can be really picky if there is a doubt about something included in the extension.

Nah, i'd rather use my blockfolio instead of installing this though, and also what is it all about at the coinmarketcap? It's just the list of all the coins besides while using blockfolio you can manage your holdings and you can set it up with no hassle. It's just that i don't really trust this yet since it's not yet proven that it is something good or bad but i think Google support can confirm it too. So good luck on your new apps extension i hope it will get a 4 to 5 stars and review.

I have no problem with that, i just make a little advertisment for my extension, but don't try to force people on it. It's just a light and simple price ticker for a lot of coins, not a fund tracking system like Blockfolio (by the way, they have access to your data https://www.blockfolio.com/june_30_privacy_statement.html ).
Maybe if users express the need i will try to develop that, but not in a near future  ;)
