Title: Forum's currency
Post by: Nex on December 12, 2010, 01:49:12 PM
Hi all,

are there any plug-in to the forum, which allow transactions between users of the forum?

Such a little thing could help speed up the popularization of BC in the forums.

sorry for my english ;)

Sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean. Are you referring to something like SMFshop (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=65)?

Yes, something like this, but with some differences: the coins can't be generated by writing posts of course. I mean something like this: users can reward each other for the good posts. The balance for each user is visible for the other.

I guess you mean something like a "karma system" where you donate BTC instead of karma points.

I hope to have something done for vBulletin by the end of the year.  But not SMF.

Some people put their addresses in the sig. Also there is a chrome extension you can use so you don't have to open bitcoin every time.

If you are asking a plugin for your own custom forum then yes, there are many plug-ins available on the market. For example if you are running a mybb forum then you can get the 'new points' system for it, it allows the users to get paid for posting, also it has a donating function, users can donate to each other, if that's what you're looking for.

Nice idea for bitcointalk.org. But i think, btc too expensive, it may be special bittalk token.

I hate the idea to have a third party token for something that can be done with Bitcoin directly. The whole idea behind Bitcoin

is to use it directly and not having to convert in and out from third party tokens. {The security that Bitcoin provide for it's

users cannot be equalled by any third party token} Why would you want to use anything else... what would the advantages

be? ...What central authority will issue and manipulate this third party token?

The forum isn’t really a marketplace or exchange. If users want to trade then they can do so independently. I think that if the forum were to provide the tools to facilitate it they could be somewhat accountable if anything goes wrong. For no extra benefit it seems like a lot of needless work.
There are systems like that (steemit) but there the whole point of STEEM is the social network aspect which (again) is not what this forum is for.

There was an effort once with a currency called bitcointalk coin, but it did not go through well and the project died a natural death. Not sure if the admins were involved in it anyway or not, but it did not create much enthusiasm and neither was it promoted as new coins today are.

That would be insecure and unnecessary make the forum slow.Loading the forum content and other basic functions should be primary  concerns, authenticating the transactions needs additional computation which I feel will slow down the forum. Moreover, whats the reward from it ? Service fees ? I think not.

I don't like the whole idea of rewarding other ppl with Bitcoins. No one will ever reward other ppl with bitcoins just for good posts

(plug-in) balance amount, useless for the bitcointalk.org forum.
I disagree, bitcointalk.org forums use plug-ins that display the balance amount, this will create new problems for the members, especially from hacking attacks.

With the plug-in viewer the amount of the balance. especially accounts that have the highest balance please be careful, your account will be in tatters by hackers.

Fortunately, the maker of bitcointalk.org forums is a person skilled in this field, he has anticipated additional upcoming strategic problems.

You mean a tipping bot? It's been discussed several times, and I recently collected Pros and Cons from previous discussions in a new thread: Tipping micropayments on Bitcointalk (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2269985.0).
I don't expect it to be implemented though.

That's not true, it happens, but not often. High fees don't allow for small tips.

I think this coin may be interesting if it will be intergrated only in a part of our forum - into something like "premium section" or special topic area. For examle - your balance equals your activity and every week it refreshes. From your "balance" you can pay to post topics or answers in the special area - for example announcements and so on.
What do you think?

I think this is indeed a great idea. Giving Bitcoins is expensive, so maybe we can have a native token for Bitcointalk. Users can donate these tokens to other users if they like their ideas, suggestions etc. Sometimes we want to say more than thank you, but of course no one wants to send the real cryptos for that. Maybe initially Bitcointalk token can be totally just for fun and then later could be listed on exchanges. Of course, that's not compulsory. This token method will surely encourage members to help other members can make quality posts. Just like getting points in a game.
