Theres no point saving it if there is nothing in it.

If there is something, put the wallet.dat on a usb.
Or store it somewhere or give to someone.

ok, when I will install bitcoin cliend back, how do I back import it to bitcoin client back? ty

When you install bitcoin, Just replace new wallet dat with old one and start QT.

if it doesn't show balance properly. Use rescan option.

To add... It will take a day and a half to sync the blockchain. Then you will see your balance

You could also copy the whole Bitcoin data file which includes the block index to reduce the sync time

c:/users/<User name>/AppData/roaming/Bitcoin

Go to your bitcoin folder, replace the wallet.dat file with your backup, you're all set.

could you pls show exact path to this file? I can't find it.

Im not sure if I am right in saying this as I only have a couple months exp with bitcoins
But from the start I used an online wallet system ( blockchain.info )
So if I were in your shoes I would just send my bitcoins to such an online wallet and then not worry about my hardware storing my coins
( I got a feeling some of you are gonna lecture me now on how an online wallet is not as safe )

As long as you know the pitfalls, you should be fine. But if you have more than a few coins, you should store the main-holdings in a local wallet.

I assume by that you mean something like... on a high quality usb drive and then store the usb dive in a safety deposit box?
Malawi: can you give me a brief rundown on the pitfalls of the online wallet?

Why not send to a Mtgox or coinbase wallet while reinstalling?

Mainly "man in the middle" attacks or hacking of coinbase. When you have it locally, you can take it off the net entirely on a usb-stick/paper. Also you have the added security layer of obscurity. ;)

For top security and ensuring your wallet is only touched by yourself keep it offline, don't send your funds to online wallets. Many of those who develop these sites take no precautionary measures into vigorously testing the security of the website and can be easily exploited as has been seen in the past, I'm sure you wouldn't want your valuable money to vanish in thin air, keep it offline.

Make sure you have up-to-date antivirus and your system is clean of any malware. (Although this merely helps, it will help get rid of the obvious malware but not any advanced malware, as discussed in my thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=221267)

Have a great day :)

Yes. What you can do is make a cold storage version of your wallet and keep that (with the private key and the public key). You can then import using importprivkey function on most bitcoin clients. Or you can import on blockchain.info

You could store a backup.dat on an online locker like dropbox, but inside an encrypted device using truecrypt.

Anything that is online can go offline.
