Title: What brought you to bitcointalk and your interest in bitcoins?
Post by: samo on June 01, 2013, 04:54:29 PM
As the title states - What brought you to bitcointalk and your interest in bitcoins?

For me it was a friend of mine who's been lurking on bitcoins for a couple years now to see if it bitcoin could ascertain adoption, and after the announcements of bitcoin atm's and adoption from Wordpress, Wikipedia among others has given it more social proof standing I've finally taken the jump into the pool and I'm here to learn and am in it for the long ride.

I joined bitcointalk which is obvious as anybody be it original miners, business or hobbyist, are here and its the number one resource for bitcoins in my mind.

On a side note I believe Mt Gox among several other exchanges are like the early search engines of the day aka netscape and once we finally have the google of bitcoin exchanges come out, who knows how to run and properly manage an exchange, I beleive this will help stabilize (like the major stock exhanges they get ddos attacks but you never here about it because they dont go down ala a wikileak setup as if you take one down a backup takes it's place and you never notice)  some of the volatility  as bitcoin is still a baby.

I started a very similar thread yesterday. Either OP is trying to hijack it ;) or he likes to ask the same questions on new threads? ::)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=221165.0;topicseen
I think would be better if we all keep responding in the thread from yesterday...otherwise it gets messy and we miss responses

Neither actually, just missed your thread, if it gets merged that's fine, perhaps even have hopefully one of the mods sticky your thread ala an introduction thread would be useful.

It seemed interesting. I didn't really know what it was about and I read some pages and looked at some intro videos and guide videos.

Forgot to add, the main draw was that this is decentralized and therefore, it's value and price cannot be affected by any one powerful organization.

I had read about Bitcoin back in 2011 on Slashdot and other geek news sources. I had followed a bit in the background since then, I recognized it as an interesting idea, but I never expected it to become what it has become, so I didn't start mining until late.

Then in February this year, BFL ads running on Slashdot got me interested in mining. Fortunately, instead of buying BFL hardware, I listened to nobody, and bought for US$ 6000 of GPUs. I mined about 35 BTC with them, turned them into much more by buying AM shares as much as I could while mining, I got the first shares at 0.7, now they are worth 2.5.

Now I use bitcoins in my everyday life to pay for my goods using an OKPAY credit card that I load with bitcoins, and I pay online whenever I can pay with bitcoins to buy stuff.

Welcome aboard!

My friend recently bought $3K GPU miner , and he said this machine pluged into the wall will generate money on itself ???
I started research and saw that he really made a mistake and that GPUs are in jurassic park now ;)
But I fell in love how BTC works as it tickles my mind on how electricity + mashine can generate money , the trick is low power-high MH/s  , and how BTC enables people to trade - no boundaries .
It may change the world as Internet did ! and this is actually happening now

I reddit a lot, and after bitcoin got big in the news earlier in the year I decided to look into it for myself. I ended up buying some cheap cards off eBay and started mining. After someone posted a link to this forum on Reddit, I came and checked it out. Ive been lurking for a long time but finally made an account and here we are!
So far I have pre-ordered a jalepano, bought a contract at cloudhashing.com and bought some stocks on Haverlock Investments, and im planning to buy some hashpacks on hashrack.com :)

What brought.......? Practical necessity. ::) Any serious person that spend time, effort, and butt aches sitting at a keyboard knows, if they have any historical perspective, this is only the beginning. As blog posts, commentary, and major news organizations (read WSJ) mainstreams what we already know we are in for a wild ride. Bitcoin may be the AOL of the internet but "cryptocurrency" is here to stay. Ask anyone that has a decent system if they're printing money with it and they'll laugh. When you tell them you are watch their face go slack. When they ask what you're talking about, tell them you'll "let them in" for 1btc. Watch the value begin to rise!!!

4 month bump? :-)

Well, I became interested in Bitcoins after I saw many online businesses and users start to use Bitcoin. I decided to follow them and that's how I learned about Bitcoin.

I heard about it about a year ago but didn't research anything about it until 2 months ago. I became fully convinced in the potential of bitcoin after watching a video on youtube where Andreas Antonopoulos explained it in more detail.

1000 is still just the beginning. We may see 200 again, but unless Bitcoin fails, we will see 10.000+ eventually.

It's just a fact. Now I'm not saying it will never fail, but if it doesn't before it really goes mainstream, yes, 1000 is only the beginning.

Decided to finally start playing poker in BTC. Not sure why I waited so long. So much more easier in so many ways.

Winpoker (http://winpoker.com) accepts Bitcoin (this is not a referral link, just thought I would mention it).

There are plenty of others of course :)

I never heard of it until a few weeks ago through friends. I didnt give it much thought until recently that it has been in the media I guess. So I decided to create a wallet and thanks to a friend I have my own in blockchain. I think if I buy some bitcoin I will keep some for investment maybe and use it to buy thing online. I think it is great that I could order online without too much hassle or personal information. :)

People on youtube were going crazy spreading the word and giving out coins but at the time I waited to long to get a wallet and then there was a crash so I kind of missed the boat.

I had heard about btc back earlier this year when they were at $3 each. I tried to buy 30 from... Mt. Gox iirc... but couldn't because I don't hold any credit cards (I hate the concept). A month or so I heard about it hitting $80, was going to buy 3, but was lazy getting verified from Coinbase... When it hit 130 I got my act together and bought 1. A week ago I remembered I had an account on here and logged in.
