Title: Mark Karpeles / MtGox
Post by: el_rlee on June 02, 2013, 05:25:21 AM
Hello Everybody,

Disclaimer: I am pretty pissed of with MtGox because of 3 withdrawals which I never received and finally canceled after a lot of bull shitting mails from their side. Also see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=179586.0 .

I think that Mr. Karpeles is a person of Bitcoin-public interest and so gossip about him personally is of relevance. However there is little which can be found - but many people here are around a long time and might be knowing much more.
I start of with the little I can make out myself, correct me if I am wrong.

Mark Karpeles is a french expat living in Japan - I can only speculate on the reasons for that, I guess in his home country he would simply be a porky nerd which has a lisp and the women don't look at.
I think besides Magic the Gathering and programming he was never really good at anything and the success of MtGox struck him unexpected. From the Reuters interview we can clearly see that the company is not run professionally, and the loss of 3 payment partners in the last weeks tells a lot.

He is young and unexperienced in running multi-million dollar businesses, talking to banks, governments and press.

Oh - yeah, I recall... there was something with you and MtGox.
Did you use them ever since?

I guess this topic foreseen the events that are occuring now. Interesting how the problem was around for so long, quietly lurking, only to turn into catastrophy in a matter of days...

How did you dig up this thread?

But honestly, this forum is full of postings warning about Gox and Karpeles for at least a year now. Nobody seriously interested in Bitcoin dealt with Gox anymore, many people were in because of greed and they are (hopefully) learning a lesson now.
Some of them for sure were newbs which didn't do deep enough research and I feel sorry for them.

How ever I initially wanted to dedicate this thread to the psyche of Mr. Karpeles and his motives in doing what he does / did. He clearly fits a pathological pattern, I am just not proficient enough of a psychiatrist to name it.

its not like we knew it was coming.

people like ver however kept shilling.

We did not? Didn't you guess the collapse pretty precisely a day before they went offline?

Also this Ver character would be worth investigating, but I guess if someone opens a thread now it would get like 3, 4 postings...

Is it safe to say that Mark Karpeles is solely responsible for (at least triggering) the first, second, and fourth big crash of Bitcoin?

That's really amazing that people were predicting this situation and how lots of people didn't hear to the forecast as they were newbs or just have positive feelings
