Post by: Slowth on October 05, 2017, 12:57:42 AM
So I inadvertently opened and followed the link from a lack message regarding updating the MEW for the coming hard fork. being a noob I followed....

now I'm realising it prob was a phish attempt.

What should I do now?

The question is, did you enter your private keys onto the MyEtherWallet phishing site? or maybe upload your UTC/JSON keystore file? If so, move your funds asap to a brand new wallet (preferably a hardware wallet, as always), but if not, I would still move my funds to another wallet just to be completely sure. Also, do a full scan on your computer with your preferred Anti-malware program (Malwarebytes recommended). If you want to be completely sure if you're safe, do a full reinstall of your operating system.

Scan your computer for malware and move you funds to another wallet.

So I’ve to leave and lose 0.1 ETH in my MEW forever as I need it for GAS?

No, if you take the normal amount of gas (around 22000) it should be ok. That's far less than 0.1 Ethereum.

Due to this, I don't advise anybody to use slack till they fix this.

I receive the same message every 30 minutes from the same phishing account, that's really annoying.

Bizarrely there's no way to block these users.

I am also receiving the same message everyday from a slackbot reminding about MyEtherWallet but since I knew it is a phishing attempt then I just don't mind it. Just remember to never enter the key to that phishing site and as for your case since it already got your ETH then it would be a lesson. When someone ask you about private key, never ever give it because as what others said if you have the keys then its your coins but if you give it then it is theirs.

I am really sorry for you. This is becoming so annoying and many people lost their money because of phishing emails and nothing can be done to get it back or at least punish who did it.
I have a suggestion but don't know if it can be done: A moderator create a thread talking about this issue and every member have to read when he loggin because there will be more victims and they have to be aware.
