We are living the most peaceful times in human history, yet there are people killed by the dozens every day. Guns and weapons are meant to "protect" but are used as means to "eradicate". Why do we need guns? What do you think?

Most people feel safer with them. Their concerns are rather valid. The only way to defend yourself against a criminal with a gun, is with a gun yourself. What I'll never understand is why ordinary citizens are allowed to have assault weapons though. Those are used for war, and is just overkill for self defense.

But weapons are not toys that are casually used for unimportant things like stealing, killing and others.

You must have been living in another world to have said we are living in the most peaceful time in human history. With people not even feeling safe in their homes and on the streets. The subject of discussion as to whether to have access to guns is only applicable to the advanced countries unlike other countries where is not even an option.

We do not need guns, we just need to live peacefully, peacefully, that's something that no one else has, only some people really want to make peace. I do not know why so many people are waging war, if nobody wants a war, we all do not have to make dangerous weapons.

For protection off course, in the for example, getting access to a gun is like buying pizza, its so easy so if the criminals are able to get access to guns, its good for the law abiding citizens to get guns to protect themselves from them and it's a very genuine reason to have a gun.

Guns are very useful at times, only to protect ourselves from someone who wants us to be killed. But before you use these guns, be sure that you have license to carry the specific gun you have. Don't use this gun as an advantage, but use this as a protection.

Yes, it might appear that our world right now is peaceful and I still do believe it. But we still need guns for protection, however I strongly believe that it should not be given to individuals freely. It is able to take and save a life at the same time and people can do things unspeakable if this is left unchecked and not properly given to regulations and stricter laws.

For me, I don't think so that we really need a gun. You will need a gun if you know to yourself that someone will attack you, but if you know to yourself that you did not do anything wrong, then why do you need to have or to bring a gun. Then if you will say that it will make you safe, then why are you thinking that you are not safe when you go outside.

In car accidents perishes much more people than weapons. You propose to ban cars? The actions of one idiot who staged a mass shooting can not deny the ability of people to self-defence. How many people survived thanks to his gun. Why would anyone want to decide for me how can I protect my life?

I was quite shocked to hear that mass killings were the "price" to pay for "freedom". I sincerely believe that the Americans still have lynching blood in them, and that they will unhesitatingly do their "justice".

The weapons are quite complex. In my country, we have a weapon factory owned by a public body of which it is the main shareholder. This partnership is a vector of jobs and especially of 10 million euros a year ...

in my country the use of guns for civilians like me is forbidden, the use of guns is only for the police and army only, it is their duty to safeguard the security of the country and its people.
in my country civilians do not yet need to use gun as a means of self protection because government and state apparatus like police and army guarantee security for its people.
indeed there are some civilians who use guns, and they take care of the possession of firearms for use in club shooting, and can only do shooting activities within the club only.

I do not agree with you ideas what you mean . It pretty obvious that we are living  the era in which horrible blood baths are occuring. Civilian people do not need to have gun in their house . According to me,  only law-enforcement officers should have gun to protect society.

Well the obvious reason for most of us would be for protection. Particularly for those people who live in dangerous neighborhoods. As for the military and police officers, they need guns to fight terrorism. Unfortunately, can't really talk peace with terrorists while they're shooting at you.

In my country, using gun is banned because government cares for the safety of residents. Acts of violating the regulations on management of the use of weapons, explosives, support tools, assorted fireworks and dangerous toys are banned. However, someday there are some criminals use gun in order to rob or fight each other. I am so scared it because it is easily harm to lamentable residents. This is just opinion from my country, hope it do not involve with other places or countries.

Why do we need guns? To protect our self for bad guys but first we need a gun with a lisence if i have a gun i feel safe.

Do we really need it, often because it has a person? for his personal safety and for ensuring that he and his family are safe. Thieves often use it, but the people's comments about it are so dangerous that it should be frightened. Then the people who have it have been used correctly, not for their enjoyment or gaming or their trip. Hopefully the police will also use it properly and in the right way, not the threat to the people. There are people like that, and policemen like that, let's do their job well and respect their status. The names of the police often breaks because of its members who do not comply with their duty.

why do we need gun? the top reason is protection. for instance, when we are stuck in the middle of the way because of bad guys or thieves, we can exploit the gun to protect us from them. however, the need of gun should be along with the gun control.

I think most of tham people have in you house to protect your family,in some cases people keep pistols or rifles as souvenirs example war trophies or some other traditions.

This Gun control thing has most to do with present day USA. America was a shit-huge piece of land owned by peacock haired natives with names like "star of morning", "Old wolf" living in a primitve tribal society.
In comes the white man bewildered by the open expanse, crazy big bisons, plentiful potatoes and corn. So he starts to build like all good white men do.
But then the Cherokee says "lalala..This land my, not you"
The white man says, "Look Big fella, here take 25 Dollars, I'll buy it"

The next day white man comes with the guns and tells him and his clan to bundle themselves to some other place.
The cherokee feels cbeated..Takes out his bow..The white boh takes out his musket..Bang..!!

And this is how the story starts. The Natives come in hordes so the white man gets guns in hordes and are killed in hordes.
Those who are no threat are given disease carrying blankets to save the bullets. There is carnage. A lot of God-fearing white men find this unjust, too much to take, lose there mind and decide to turn the guns against his own brethern. This is where the story reaches its crescendo.

Well then everyone knows it becomes the wild, wild west. The civil war comes. The white man realizes his folly and decides to make a honest and just society. But the seed of sin has been sown long ago.
They fight and kill. The Black men relaizes he's bigger than the white men to be bullied. So he buhs guns too.

So now they all hate each other secretly. So they all now need guns.

Protect ourselves from bad guys with guns

Actually we wouldn't need them if we feel safe at our home. But we see the news so we are all worried.

If we can trust justice and governments to protect our propriety like human being, we wouldn't need them - but how can we trust them after watching how corrupted they are ?

Another issue is the gun-lobbies and the easy way to purchase a gun.

So in conclusion more gun means more fear for everyone.

I believe that we don't really need them anymore.

There was a time in our history where we had to defend ourselves, but technology has surpassed that now. I think the main problem when it comes to gun control is that you don't need to be trained or prove you can use one.

When you learn to drive, you spend months in a car learning, with a gun you don't.

Not all people need gun. Instead of gun to protect your self i think you need to pray in God to protect everyday in your life. Gun is not okay especially to person that have no temper in his life.

in my opinion, I do not need gun, because the regulations in my country do not allow the use of gun by civilians, my country is in a state of peace and security, the security of our country is guaranteed by the state government and its law enforcement apparatus.

We need guns to protect yourself from bad people around us , In this world no one is to be trusted and your best friend can be your worse friend and I have also realized most people are lazy and don't want to work , how can someone spend years doing hard work making money and you use just a second to take it all.  So the gun is very important.

Almost every day in the US children accidentally kill themselves or others with guns that are meant for "protection". We DON'T need them. They kill far more people than they save, every day.

We need guns to have a peace and order for entire community. But some bad guys use that for crime and to gain more power to get what they want in life. But guns are good for protection by yourself not using it to kill somebody's innocent.

So many countries have a no gun policy. And they have no mass murders there. We do not need guns at all.

There are instances that you will have no choice but to defend yourself for example if you are in a remote area and there are no police around patrolling.

The only thing that makes a gun needed is for protection but i do not promote guns that can be easily purchase over the counter, i think all countries must provide regulations regarding guns because if someone who is not mentally capable of using it and actually own one it will be a problem for a lot of people.

Well for self defense but this is not what it seems in most cases because no matter how disciplined the gun owner is there could really be a time in which they will be using it for  a not so good reason.

I can understand people who say its for self defense but a person who's going to own one should undergo  firm assessment first if they're fit carry one before getting a licensed firearm. True. I've held a gun before. It was a handgun. There is a feel to it, a certain power. I don't know if it's because of Hollywood or a natural curiosity but i really want to fire it on the wall or the ceiling or a dummy. There is a certain power when you hold a gun, and if that person has an emotional quotient of a kindergarten, you would really want to fire it. Most of the time at living being. I think we're not supposed to own guns not unless you are the police.

We really need guns because nowadays because almost every criminal in our country has guns and the only thing to protect my family is also to have our very own gun.

Nowaday, we are living in a society with many dangerous thing, i dont like to use gun because it is dangerous and too much problem to solve if i had a gun, however living in dangerous society make me think again whether to have a gun or not because i may need it to protect myself in the future.

Guns have long appeared, for the sake of war, colonial invasions that people have created guns. For the purpose of military guns are created more and more, many types of guns are created. AND current guns have become a banned weapon in a few countries.

Guns are essential for our everyday protection from criminals. You might think, why not use your fists instead of using weapon, well first of all not all people have the capabilities to fight and match whoever their attackers are, so this is a major reason for a citizen to have one. It because we need it to protect our self to those bad people's around us.we need it to fight our right way to those country's who wanted to be them our own country, mostly policed are always had a gun and the people on the government but I'm hoping that to use guns and weapons in a right way just like stop killing innocent people.how if new generation in this world could try it to kill innocent people using guns cause hey see to older that they just use it into bad wayn instead show the right way to see those new children's that guns is our protector not to use in a bad way.

On the international level guns and weapons are needed to deterrence the potential enemy. Let's take cold war as an example. USA and USSR were increasing their arms potential all the time but they didn't have armed conflict, because both countries understood that they will have more damage than advantages.

Few years I go I used to be a guard and I have gun with me but it didn't help my character, I became boastful and my life is in danger because of it. So I decided to quite my job.
I am not against gun but the one that should have must be know how to control himself,sometimes it kills the good side of a person.

I think it depends on the country, where do u live. If you live in some badfull country in Africa, you must to have gun, to protect yourself. But look please on Japan or Georgia. This country has lower crime level and guns useless.

Not the wrong weapon (guns). Because the essence of guns are created as a means to protect themselves, others and even the state. What I think is wrong is greed and the passions of its users, who severely deprive the lives of their fellow human beings. Therefore guns need the right people, the right decisions and the right policies to use them.

I think guns should be used only for protection. But with the current competition between individuals, companies, countries, etc. the guns are being used for various violent activities. To mitigate the negative impact my suggestion is to bring up a globally agreed regulation  system of using guns. Enhancing the humanity of the people would help to reduce the crimes done using guns.

Gun is an invention that for the safe and security purpose, until they can't control who is gonna be a guy hold a gun in his hand and shoot other. Gun turns into a big threat of innocent people. Sometimes i do wish gun was never invented and i think that would add this world some peaces.

You need one because you cant just unlearn something. They are not made of some magical unicorn bones left here by ayy lmao's. The world isn't perfect, but maybe someday.

Generally, each individual should not have a gun. Only the policeman should carry it. However, in some cases, like for self protection, we need to carry a gun. As long as, it was propely documented and we were disciplined and trained on how to handle a gun.

I haven't ever believed that police can protect us. Althought my country bans using guns, i want to have a gun to defend myself, and my family from unwanted attack.

The purpose of guns in this society is to protect ourselves from danger especially to humans that have bad intent to other people. This could help us save our lives. But we can't avoid that there are people who breaks the law and abuse the use of guns.

I think it depends on the exact culture. Americans are fine with guns but it's comes from the first settlers which been always armed to fight wild animals and tribals. They been taught from the cradle how to deal with a gun and how to be respective to it. However in Europe there are no such traditions, most of people haven't even see a gun in real life, only on TV. They have no culture of behavior with a guns and that might lead to disaster.

Some people need it especially to those who have a public service or politicians because sometimes, some people are jealous with their position that they are having. As a Canadian I have never needed a gun for self defense. It think the only reason Americans feel this way is because any American can have a gun. So they all feel the need to carry one in order to be on equal footing.

Well, I live in a country where there is gun control policy and most people aren't satisfied with this.

Where there is gun control only two groups will have guns: Security forces and thieves. And the security forces aren't enough to stop all the thieves all the time, so the criminals feel safe to steal/kidnap/kill without worries to be shot as the common citizen doesn't have a gun to protect himself and his family.

And in countryside areas it's worse, as farmers need powerful guns and all they can have are some ordinary guns...

Guns are only necessary, only if you live in a dangerous neighborhood where all sorts of crime, from petty to murder are part of the norm. I am in favor of gun use because criminals use them to commit crimes; hence the only way to stop them is by wielding a weapon of equal capability.

That's true some of us used it for fun and some is using for protection for their own protection , these days people see a gun thinking that having a gun make you a cool. Some people claim that they need guns to protect themselves oand even their loved ones from possible danger such as those caused by evil people. However, studies show that if someone in a household owns a gun, there is a very high risk that the person who will get hit by that same gun lives in the same house. Thus, gun ownership should undergo a very thorough process.

The truth is that many people are evil and misuse guns which are only tools. The reason we have laws is to protect honest hardworking people from the evil people who don't follow the laws no matter how many are written. The 2nd Amendment is what keeps all the other Amendments standing!

I think we don't need guns or weapon which can damage other people. If we live in the peace country, i think we shouldn't need that. The people who have gun is must have ability to do that and have responsibility to use gun. Gun shouldn't give to all people because it can threatening and endagering the peace of society. If someone has gun and she/he feel angry and can't control her/his emotion, so she/he can do violence which harmful other people (people can do agressively if they have gun/ weapon). Gun control is not possible in the United States, because they have very high rates of violent crime, especially home invasion. If you don't own a gun, then it is like asking for your death. On the other hand, countries such as Australia and New Zealand have very strict gun ownership laws. They can afford that, because crimes such as home invasion are very rare in these countries. Ultimately, it depends whether the government is able to protect you or not. If they are unable to do that, then you don't have any choice other than owning a gun to protect yourself.

The difference is this. There are several kinds of government types. Common law, civil law, and religious traditional law types cover most of them.

South America, except for Guyana, is civil law. What the government says is what is done, except if the people complain a lot. And if the government changes just to keep peace.

I don't believe that we are living in the most peaceful times. It's just that war is now completely different. Climate change, bio-weapons, and cyber attacks are the new methods. Any actual fighting will be done by drones and bots.
