Title: Hash rate drops at system Idle no matter what I do.
Post by: MCMK on October 06, 2017, 02:34:14 AM
Have two rigs, one dedicated to mining (4x470x and a 1070) and my gaming rig with a 1080 and 280x.

I upgraded my monitor on my gaming rig and all of the sudden my 280x would no longer mine Equihash. Thought nothing of it as it's an old card and has put in it's time and some so i simply removed it leaving my 1080 all by itself.

Now since the monitor upgrade my 1080 starts mining at ~550/sol but if my computer goes idle (no input from 10-25 minutes it varies) it drops to 240-300/sol. This rig has been going strong with no issues for a long time literately the only thing that changed was my monitor. Quite baffled.
Checked my power settings and everything was fine, no sleep, no power throttling anywhere. Set the monitor to not turn off, still see the drop in hashing.
I really don't understand how a peripheral can impact my machine so much.
Anyone else had anything like this happen before? The new monitor has Gsync but cannot imagine that making a difference.

GPU:1080 @195/700
mobo: MAXIMUS-VIII-HERO
PSU 750W
OS WIN 10
Risers: none
Mining software: EWBF
New monitor: ASUS ROG Swift PG278QR 27in WQHD 165Hz 1ms G-SYNC

Steps i have tried so far:
-Tried updating drivers and problem still persists, after idle hash power drops by 40-50% until I move the mouse etc
-Connected the old monitor to have both the 21" and 27" at the same time no change.
-Revisited the power setting for the performance profile and confirmed that there is nothing throttled or turning off after any amount of time.
-Unplugged new monitor from GPU same results. After a period of 15-30 minutes hashing power is reduced 40-50%
-Looked at the MSI afterburner logs and there is no difference in power, usage, clock speeds in the periods where the Hashing is normal and where it is retarded.
-Reinstallation of Win 10 has not fixed the issue.
-Disabled G-Sync, no change in behaviour
-Temps never over 60

Anyone have a suggestion I have not tried? I am at a loss as to what to do next.

I haven't experience this mate, however have you checked your temperature? hot temps can also be the culprit for hashrate drops, try also to change pools, change mining algo like ETH for test purpose, by this will help identify if its in your system or not.

Yes this seems to be pretty unique...

Card does not go over 60 degrees.
