Title: Is mining BTC at home now impossible for a regular Joe? Post by: midvoc on October 06, 2017, 09:37:39 AM Hey folks,
Just a quick question for opinions on whether it is possible to mine at home or do you need some insane dedicated miner nowadays to make a few cents? Thanks and best regards. Post by: waser12 on October 06, 2017, 12:37:15 PM I also wonder, is it possible to do mining without the farm, with an ordinary home computer, sitting at home?

Many alt coins are still profitable to mine using GPUs, although even here in some cases you already need ASICs nowadays. Unless you have a gaming PC, mining with an ordinary home computer will at most yield you your electricity bill, even with alts. Depending on your specs, most likely not even that. Check this to see how much you can make. Those values at the top are for ASICS and very high end PC components. Even if you're mining the most profitable altcoins today with an average PC, you'd be losing around 6-7 dollars a day. Title: Re: Is mining BTC at home now impossible for a regular Joe? Post by: adzino on October 07, 2017, 10:56:04 AM Hey folks, You will have to buy expensive mining rigs. Lots of maintenance and work to do. Don't forget about electricity bill. If you are living on a place where electricity is inexpensive you might give it a shot. Else don't even bother. All those maintenance cost and electricity fee will end up killing you and not worth trying.Just a quick question for opinions on whether it is possible to mine at home or do you need some insane dedicated miner nowadays to make a few cents? Post by: philipma1957 on October 08, 2017, 03:32:07 AM Bottom line is a person can Home mine if they have space in a garage.
I just started a you tube channel. That shows how to soundproof a few Avalon 741 miners and run them in your garage. You can make some money if you can use the heat, I am in the state of New Jersey I will post a link https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2245487.0 The two miners cost 1646 the two psus cost 234 1870 plus 130 to soundproof. So 2k usd. It will lower my heating bill from now until the late spring about 600. I am hoping it earns 2200 in coins. So that totals 2800 - 2000 = 800 Power is about 180 a month so 1080 for six months. So 1080-800=280 So after six months. I would have a loss of 200-300 most likely sell the gear for 1000 And net 700. So 2000 becomes 2700 in only six months. Which is a positive return of 35 percent in six months. The average garage miner will max at 2 to 5 kwatt I won't get rich but will earn money. Post by: rockie2000 on October 08, 2017, 05:28:41 PM Yes, I think it is too late now for the average Joe to get into home bitcoin mining and earn a decent amount of money, unless he has free electricity :(
But you can still give it a try and see, then it's more about learning rather than making serious profit. |
