Title: Two PSU Issues
Post by: Sp3cul8r on October 06, 2017, 09:31:54 PM
Its me again.  Still working on the home mine and thanking God for this forum once an hour.  ;)  Anyway, I finally got an Avalon 741 up and running late last night.  Hooked it up to Slushpool and it actually started mining for about 5 minutes.  Then, the 1200w PSU gave out.  My electrician is not due to hook me up with proper 220v 30amp circuits for another week, so I was just trying to get 1 miner up and running in order to learn. I plugged it into regular 15amp circuit 120v, and it began spinning up.  I've heard that there is maybe a switch or something I can possibly change to allow the miner to run at a lower voltage?  Is that correct?  I've included a pic of my 1200 watt PSU with breaker board.

Secondly, I also purchased two 650 corsair PSUs with the intent of powering one board a piece on one Avalon 741.  However, I dont understand the wiring (pic included).  There are two PCI-e slots on the PSU.  Do I need to use one of the slots from the "Peripheral and SATA" sections?   If so, the PSU did not come with a 3rd cable, so I suppose i need to buy another?

Thanks for screenshot on voltage.  You think my PSU will stop crapping out if I put on lowest setting?

Crap, really (about the Corsairs)?  This is what I bought: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/corsair-cx-m-series-650w-atx12v-2-4-eps12v-2-92-modular-power-supply-matte-black/5845214.p?skuId=5845214&cmp=RMX&extStoreId=1022&ref=212&loc=1&ksid=947faa22-bfbf-4195-b95f-7a8ec18d011c&ksprof_id=8&ksaffcode=pg199269&ksdevice=m&lsft=ref:212,loc:2

I can take them back if they are wrong.

Just to clarify.  I'm working with two different PSUs here.  I bought a couple 1200 watt from Minerwarez (pic 1) and then I wanted to try the Corsairs 650w (pic 2).  The 1200w is crapping out and the Corsairs don't seem to have correct wire slots?

I think that psu has only two cables and is not ideal.

As for your. 1200watt it may be okay.

Give me a few minutes I will link another choice.of psus

If it is the PSU MW shows on their site that looks to be a HP1200W CS server supply. Those are damn good and typically uber-reliable.

Look at the label on it and you will see that on 100-120V it is only rated for 900W. That is why it is unhappy with the miner running default speed. Only on 200V or higher is the rating 1,200W. As Phil said, drop to using -2 and ja the PSU will be near max rating but still be quite happy (and very warm which is normal btw).

As usual, you guys are awesome.  I'm currently trying my 1200 watt psus again and I will lower the wattage.  Is this wiring correct?
