Title: Most reliable RX580 brand
Post by: ledsgo on October 07, 2017, 11:38:44 PM
Hi, I have been mining for a couple of months and I would like to know your opinion on the different RX580 brand that are available, mostly regarding reliability. (All my card are 8GB)

Here is what I have:

- 7 MSI Gaming X, so far 2 of them have been not so good (I returned one of them and the other can not be overclocked as much as the others) - all hynix memories.

- 5 Powercolor Red devil (2 hynix and 2 samsung) - so far I had no problem with them

- 2 powercolor Red devil gold (hynix) - no problem

All those cards (bios modded) are producing around 30/910 mh/s on ethereum/decred dual mining with claymore 9.7 on the mining beta driver. None of them seems to heat up more than the others.

I put that extra info but I am interested mostly about reliability :)

Thanks!

Red Devils and Gold Sample cards are pretty damn reliable in my experience. Golden sample ones are top of the line binned chips and they usually do very well in most tasks. Gainward makes Golden Sample cards for Nvidia too, and those cards were very nice, but haven't heard from em in a while. They were clocked high out of the box and still had legroom for more OC, and had relatively low power draw.

Is that useful to clean them or you mean to replace because of wear and tear ?   I also found fans to be the most likely to slow or stop mining, in one case it was the actual fan controller chip that went wrong without any good reason for it.

I have a XFX card from 2008 thats never stopped, it was a blower style though which apparently do last longer.   Not anymore but at one time XFX offered life time warranty to original owners, seems they are still higher quality like that

sapphire and only sapphire.

Sapphire is shit and they don't honor their warranty. Myself I actually have had pretty good luck with the MSI brand, but I suppose every manufacturer has bouts of low quality cards slip through. The trick to most of them is to end up with Samsung memory if you can.

For Nvidia EVGA is my go to brand. Too bad they don't deal with AMD GPUs, but perhaps the cards are crap compared to Nvidia so they feel they couldn't stand behind them.

10 years in usa and canada, no other company can beat that.

I think sapphire is 12 months only. I like dual bios and sapphire is the only one that offers that.

More likely they have a bigger margin, since Nvidia is overpriced for performance they have.

Sapphire was very good back in the day, then they were crap, and now their quality has again improved. But their warranty is still bad compared to most other manufacteurs.

In my experience I think ASUS is the most reliable. That and the original OEM AMD brand GPUs (Reference )

I have lots of RX 580 and best for hardcore mining is sapphire nitro +
In past 480 nitro plus had not so good cooling, but they fixed that with 580 nitro+ serie.
Have lots of them and non fail, and very good for moding, almost all doin 30+ on eth.

I have sapphire running for more than 1.5 years. BIOS modified but more than 30 Mh/s does not rise. Temperature depending on the time of year lasts from 42 to 57 degrees. Lifetime warranty probably is a fake. After mining on GPU has got mass character in my country has ceased to serve the GPU under warranty if they find out that the GPU used for mining.

The MSI Gaming X is my favorite. All of my 8Gig do 30+MHS dual mining and all my 4Gig 28.5+ MHS dual mining. I never had them crash and they work with almost any driver you put in there.

Hello if temperature is important, asus rog rx 580 should be preferred. The Best Fan and cooling

I think sapphire is 12 months only. I like dual bios and sapphire is the only one that offers that.

I like the Dual Bios as well and wish more company's offered it, but one feature doesn't change the fact they manufacture sub-par products. I own quite a few cards from various manufacturers and it is Sapphire that I consistently have trouble with. I got two cards in for RMA right now and they are giving me static and trying to charge me to repair them.

The big problem is they hand their warranty off to Althon Micro which IMHO isn't very good. I suppose they bid for the work and they submitted a cheap bid, now that they are being flooded with defective products so they try to weasel out from the warranty terms. The first two times I had to send a card in to Althon it was no problem, they returned a new or refurbished card within a week or so. Then the 3 and 4th ones (this is over a period of about 18 months, not all at once) I had to answer a barrage of questions, did I remove the heatsink, no, and on and on. After feeling me out to see if I modified or abused the GPU they finally honored the warranty.

This got worse every time one of their crap cards would die until now where they are claiming based on my past RMA's I must be doing something to them. I try explaining I have lots of cards, Sapphire and many other brands and it is the Sapphires that keep dying and I treat them no differently. Then they mention mining and I state the box and advertising indicate they run OpenCL and yes I am using a OpenCL program 24/7. Then they give me static about these are meant for gaming, blah, blah basically trying to get out of repairing their defective cards.

Out of all my current AMD GPUs (RX570 through RX580's and a few Vegas) I would say Sapphire only represents about 20% while MSI probably is 50%, and XFX, Asus, and Gigabyte round out the remaining 30%. Out of all these cards during a 18 month period I have had to send 2 back to MSI, 1 to XFX and 1 to Gigabyte and over a dozen to Sapphire. So just looking at the ratio of failed cards versus the number of each owned I can safely say that Sapphire has a lower quality control than the others.

my top picks are
1. MSI gamers x rx580 - stays really cool and pretty good on power
2. Asus strix rog rx580 - very good on power and stays pretty cool
3. XFX black edition - very good hashrate but a bit higher on the power side.

gigabytes cards are the worst imho.

maybe it all depends on memory type? most of my cards are Hynix. so I could be wrong.

I've got 14 Asus RX570 Expedition OC that have been mining 24/7 since April, no failures so far. They're supposedly the cheap Asus cards but have done very well so far.

Make sure you get your cards with Samsung memory as with a bios mod you can make them go up to 31 Mhash without problems, should do 27-28 Mhash without bios mod though.

I am talking about the best brand in ATI cards, especially for mining, SAPPHIRE NITRO+ is the only kind of card you need for RX 580, just make sure as I said them to have Samsung memory to get the most out of your cards for mining.

I have Hynix and I dont have any issue getting 31.5-31.8. XFX brand

How can you make sure you have Samsung memory when you buy it from Newegg or Amazon?

Same here, all my xfx cards with hynix mems are doing over 29+. I thought they were sh*t at first.. but with some advice from some members on here and some tweaking. They are doin well over 29(windows) and power consumption is decent.

Also when you buy gpus how can you ever tell what kind of memory are in there? Esp when you get them in bulks. There is no way to determine what mems are in each gpu.
If you know how to, definitely share this information with us.
