Even though the amount is close to zero, Paypal is reversible, so folks will be concerned that even if you go first by a week, and then they send the non-reversible Bitcoins that as soon as you  receive them you can reverse the Paypal payment, especially if you are anonymous and have no risk.

However, if you want to deposit your money in someone's bank account rather than through Paypal, they might be more inclined to send you Bitcoins.

You missed the point, doesn't matter whether you go first or not, Paypal is broken for trust free anonymous transactions for a virtual currency that violates its terms of service... 
If you really want to trade, you need to offer something folks will be likely to accept.

Otherwise you risk being seen as someone that scams newbies.

Consider the alternative I mentioned.

1) You deposit money into someone's bank account.
2) They send you bitcoin.
or reverse the order if you like, or use escrow.

For such a small transaction, you might also easily find someone who has built some trust so that you will feel ok to trade with them.
Offering paypal is not much of an offer.

Someone claimed on another thread that you can give "gifts" on paypal that are not reversible.  I don't know how that works, but that might be more trustworthy if you can do that.

you could try doing 0.005 BTC via paypal to someone and if you do this with enough people and don't chargeback, then you might be able to start building some trust.

I would be willing to do this for someone at a low amount of BTC, but not without a markup of at least 20% over current market rate (just PP fee alone takes 10% at those small volumes).  Dwolla is another option, but you still have the chargeback risk.

Why not just offer to wire someone the funds?

Or if you are willing to wait a day, overnight/priority mail someone a postal money order (yeah, there is a cost here, but if you are buying with PP, you'll be paying at least and extra 10% just for the other party to break even, and they'll likely want a profit margin on top of that).  If you want to buy 1btc, a postal money order will cost you $1.20 plus another 5.60 for the priority mail shipping.  That works out to 6.80 for a ~$120 transaction.  Not too bad.

Plus you'll have to PM the guy to get an address to send the money order to so he'll have a paper trail against you claiming it was stolen or you lost it or something.  He'll go to the post office when he picks it up, cashes it right there, and you'll have your BTC!

More risk for you, because if he doesn't send the BTC you have no recourse, but it's one way to do it!
