Title: Lost BTC Wallet Password, will pay 25% cracking fee. (Around $4000)
Post by: Parodium on October 09, 2017, 11:50:32 AM
Hello,

I have a bitcoin wallet which has around 3.5 BTC in it, I do not have an offline backup of the wallet, the wallet is hosted by blockchain.info.

I have the wallet identifier and what I think the password is, I need somebody with a computing cluster with the power to crunch 30^12 permutations. Will pay 25% cracking fee upon its completion, I have the first half of the password, the second half of the password can be cracked within 30^12 permutations, probably FAR FAR less if you use a custom script (probably more like 30^9).

I have approached walletrecoveryservices on this wallet, and after months I have not heard a response, so I assume they have failed.

Once you have cracked the wallet, you can take your 25% cracking fee, and then provide me the password so I can access my wallet.

I will require proof of your computing power before I hand over any details, if you don't have a beast of a rig, don't even bother. I believe I could probably crack this wallet myself, but I'm too busy to work out how to set up the custom script and order a cloud computer server to brute force it.

Edit: Just for clarification, I do not have the mnemonic, I have only the wallet identifier, bitcoin address and email.

I think if they would be able to get access of your account then they would take it for them selves than take the $4,000 reward. Also what is stopping them from taking the whole thing and forget about you, right?

Well, I do hope you meet a whitehat around here and be able to get back that wallet. Good luck.

Don't how much computation Power I have right now. But I would like to give it a try for sure if you think the first half is correct and we only need to find the second half. Let me tell you I can't go above 22 Million possibilities but I still want to try.
Thanks

How do you know if they do not get everything?
And finding a complex password in an online service like blockchain.info is impossible, in my humble opinion.

Your task is impossible

If you can do it yourself then wait for the right time and just go for it .

Your terms is somehow risky because you cant be sure if that someone could able to access the wallet wont get all the funds inside it once they get in and also this kind of task would really be hard even if you do have beast of a rig to do the task on computing or whatsoever I think this wont really resolved. If you do have the identifier and email it cant unlock that wallet because you don't have the pneumonic phrase which is the most important to access that wallet.Once you lost that key then your coins are lost forever. The bounty is decent but no one could able to do such thing.

The task is not impossible, I have calculated the number of possible permutations based on what I know about the password. I have looked at the power of current supercomputers, Tianhe2 could crack the wallet in less than a second. So hammering it with a computing cluster for a few hours or days should be able to handle it.

Don't how much computation Power I have right now. But I would like to give it a try for sure if you think the first half is correct and we only need to find the second half. Let me tell you I can't go above 22 Million possibilities but I still want to try.

There is no point you trying, 22M combinations is orders of magnitude to low.

There are ways to recover the wallet for an offline attack. I still have access to the email.

That's why I'm only going to use somebody extremely trusted, somebody who 3.5BTC isn't a lot of money for.

Not exactly. If what he claims is true and he knows most of the password, then it's definitely possible. Of course, it also depends on how much of the password he doesn't know. Then again, we are all relying on this information, as well as his maths.

That's why I'm only going to use somebody extremely trusted, somebody who 3.5BTC isn't a lot of money for.
That amount of money is big for anyone. Dave's wallet recovery has been well known to be trusted and probably is your best bet. I would keep trying to contact him. He may be away but it's probably better than just anyone that looks trustworthy on the forum.

Otherwise, btcrecover is a free program. I've helped a few people use it in the past. I recommend you give it a try yourself. It's open source and can be checked by yourself for any malicious code. You may not have the computing power to do it in the time frame you plan. But, if you run it occasionally and save the progress you could get it within a decent time frame depending on your hardware.

I've seen that program, but based on the computing hardware I've got access to, it would take extremely long. Ideally I need someone with access to a serious beast of a rig, certainly not a home rig.

I assume that the rest of the part of the password that needs cracking is a sub 9 character dictionary word, with 4 random characters on the end. Based on this there are only around 2M combinations, but worst case scenario I may have made the word up, so would have to try every character combination for the word.

This is too risky in your side to give your information to get your funds in a lost wallet password it is like getting lots of money for free because they can get more than your bounty if they crack the password. Maybe you can hire a walk in person that you can find if there is something happen and do some agreement. good luck.

If this is possible, then there is no a big fault on the part of block chain because it then mean that I can go over the internet, search bitcoin address with a lot of money then I create a bounty like this. For someone who have such amount of btc at this time means that you must have been involved early and by default should have basic knowledge about how password importance is when it comes to bitcoin.

And come to think of it, how do one even know you own the account itself because I don't understand how you would remember half password and not the remainder.

I was involved early, doesn't matter to me what you believe. I have more information on the wallet than somebody could possibly know by chance. Please explain how I would know half the password, have access to the wallet email, know the wallet ID AND know the bitcoin address if it isn't mine? I'd like to see you "go over the internet" and find this information.

Still looking to get this cracked, fee is currently around $5000.

You must have the computing power capable of cracking 40^12 combinations.

If it is a blockchain.info wallet, you can email their support in order to restore it. It happened to me, and now I have access to the wallet. You might need the email you registered with, identificator, the 2FA token if enabled and the recovery seed (which you should have written down somewhere).

I don't have the recovery seed, I stupidly didn't write it down.

I'm not sure but most online websites, especially websites that can contain high amounts of money have brute force protection.
I don't know what the protection on blockchain.info is, but it's either going to slow the brute forcing process or making it impossible using an account lock, temporary or not.

Asking is no mistake. Sorry for my answer.
Maybe it could work on cloud computing?

Sorry, not handing out the details to a newbie. I have decided I will crack this myself as 80% of responses didn't even read the original post.

To the user who showed me how to retrieve the wallet.aes.json file, you'll receive part of the bounty once I've cracked the wallet.
