Title: Any ASIC for eth?
Post by: rasl.curt on October 09, 2017, 08:51:27 PM
Will there ever be an asic for eth? The evolution of bitcoin led to the appearance of these chips. Will the same future for eth?

Ethereum has no asic miner. It has been specially developed for Ethereum's systems and this is quite logical in my opinion. Because asic miner remained to me, it would increase unfair competition

There are no ASICs for ETH because the algorithm was designed to be minable with GPUs only due to the memory it requires.
That doesn't mean that they are infeasible to make, but right now nobody has bothered making one.
You can only use GPUs to mine Ethereum.

ASIC resistant forever.

Luckily no now. Eth have antiASIC script. EthASIC are difficult to develop for dagger hashimoto, so it takes a lot of time and money.

This is easily the funniest comment I have read all day. Thanks for that. Its true. DH is SUPER hard to ASIC mine, and basically was made for GPUs. Stick a bunch of GPUs in a box, make it look cool and you have an "Eth Asic"  ;) ;)

The algorithm was chosen to be memory IO bound rather than CPU bound. Anything CPU bound can be done faster in hardware. An ASIC does not improve memory IO. details of the algorithm can be found here: https://github.com/ethereum/wiki/blob/master/Dagger-Hashimoto.md

So, ethash algorithm is the best of ASIC resistance algorithm because of memory hungry? The other algorithm can be ASIC mined anytime easily in theory, am I right?
