Title: Can admins see editing history of a post?
Post by: pereira4 on October 10, 2017, 01:16:31 AM
I see so many people getting their accounts hacked lately, it's pretty crazy. I think it must be mostly due unsafe email providers or something.

Anyway, I've seen that the best way to get your account back is to sign a message with a BTC address you control, but I see people quoting their addresses on this thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.0

This makes me thing that for some reason admins can't see edited posts?

In that case I guess I will go there and post an address. There's still the insanely unlucky event that the guy hacks your account and the account quoting your address and edits both but I guess that would be like getting hit by an asteroid or something.

Edit: test

See that solid black line under the title? If it's edited, it will be dashed, not solid and if you hover over it, it will show the last edited date.
Edit: It will have a dashed line under the Date/Time with a solid under that.
You can also archive your posted addy.

Yes, though it's a bit of a hassle.

There's currently no history of profile fields, though, so you definitely can't rely on your signature or anything like that.

I edit the post and now I see a line below the post but the upper line is still black and solid, also when I hoover over any of both lines I don't see the edited date. What im missing there? Im not sure what i should be looking at to be honest.

Well on that case I will use the staking thread just in case.

Look at my last post above.

Example:

Since the post has been edited, I would NOT see this as proof of ID. I have actually seen 2 accounts work together to edit posts to try and claim an account.

Oh now I see it. But I guess if admins can't see a proper history and access the posts prior edit it's better to post your BTC address on that thread, and even if they could see it, I guess it's an extra security layer to get quoted by someone else, hopefully not some newbie account tho.

One of the good things of being active in sig campaigns is that you can probably always find your address in some locked thread  ;D

There's also a grace period of around 10 minutes from time you created the post. Any edits made within this interval won't add the dashed line.

I could not remember how long that grace period was, thanks for the reminder.

Edit: test
Maybe you did your test during this grace period... could you try again?
