It's not the same project, the developers and services behind each one of them are different. I don't support 2X but Bitcoin Gold is far from being anything serious, there is not even enough info about it.

Bitcoin Gold is a "friendly" fork because

1) It does not claim to be BTC. Uses its own token tag and it's own address format to not confuse noobs into sending real BTC into other blockchain, like what happened with BCash since the address format is identic.
2) It does not use the same hashing algo as BTC, meaning that they are not trying to steal hashrate from the real Bitcoin.
3) They have replay protection

Notice how segwit2x is the worst hardfork ever since it doesn't comply with none of the above.

Segwit2X is just another attempt at a power grab to get control over Bitcoin or to be the new Bitcoin. Bitcoin Gold developers

on the other hand, said they are willing to work with the Core team and to serve as the backup plan, if Segwit2X fux up the

network. They play the same role as LiteCoin, where they were the live test area for new technological improvements on

Bitcoin.  ;D ..... I doubt if they have the professionalism and skills, but the extended hand is a welcome sign.  ;)

There's a lot of bitcoin clone.Segwit2x for bitcoin halving? whatever it is! i'm very confident that bitcoin is the mother or major cryptocurrency right now. Bitcoin will kill the vibes of government banks.

SegWit2x is a dramatically more significant hard fork which has already gained the support of a significant amount of BTC companies.  It doesn't mean that the fork will be the most popular after the fork, but its popularity is subjective enough that it's acceptable enough for both chains to call themselves Bitcoin.

Hopefully the companies themselves will be very clear on which is which and which chain they've decided to call Bitcoin, but I don't think it's reasonable to insult SegWit2x for it if they aren't.
Segwit2X is just another attempt at a power grab to get control over Bitcoin
This oft-repeated claim is obviously wrong, since if you are opposed to it you can simply not use it, so there is no shift of power at all.

Bitcoin gold is a fork to make Bitcoins more decentralised by encouraging GPU mining. It looks too good to be true but in reality it isn't. They look very unprofessional, they don't have a proper website, lack of awareness in social media etc.
Another fork is in mid November, I don't want to take about this as I don't support segwit2x.

They are different based on what I've read. But I don't really get it why should there be another fork to think that it's only 2 months ago since the last fork. And now there will be 2 hardforks! What will be the effects of these two, I don't know but hopefully it will have positive impact to btc hodlers.

I think BGold could become very serious, even though everyone is dismissing it now. It is a GPU mineable coin which could be easily picked up by all the miners out there that have their GPU hardware sitting around, waiting for the next big profit making coin.

I think its a case of traders vs miners. Traders will dump BGold hard and the price will flash crash. Then, once the dust has settled, the miners will pick up the coin and a long term profit and price increase will happen.

There seems to be a hell of a lot of commotion around this upcoming fork, I only just realised that there is two of them  :o

I know that price speculation isn't really based on much, but do those more experienced reckon there will be another dip?

Bitcoin is main coin. Then create a new coin by segwit which is bitcoin Cash.
Now are going to held segwit2x which name is Bttcoin gold.
But I also hesitate by killing bitcoin. It us not possible at all.

Bitcoin is close to its last highs so may take a few days rest  before breakout into $5000s.
Most traders have Bitcoin Cash fork in their mind so chances of any panic selling in bitcoin
this time are small and instead more buying is more likely going into these two forks.

BTGold uses the Equihash Algo, same as Ethereum for miners. MH/s will be comparable for both.
With Ethereum coming close to PoS, could this have been timed for rigs to be pointed here for 'next big coin'?
They have the miner app out on GitHub. Be interesting to see what this provides for GPU miners.

EDIT: Uses Equihash, same as ZCash, mis- informed info from news article. Still be interesting to see what happens with this in long run re GPU mining.

Crypto wallet Blockchain advised its users to buy some ether. It has also announced its intention to join with Xapo. According to Josiach Wilmoth's Cryptocoin news:
"In mid-November, the Bitcoin blockchain is expected to split into two, competing chains following SegWit2x, a hard fork designed to upgrade the Bitcoin network and enable it to scale more effectively. The proposal appears to have strong support from miners and crypto firms — although this support has steadily waned as the fork has gotten closer — but it is opposed by the Bitcoin Core developers, as well as many other businesses and users."

Yes i think the 2x fork is a bit more serious than the gold fork. There are no clear facts as to what the bitcoin gold is going to do, it all seems a bit scattered to me. We really have to go searching for information. If they were serious they would want to get their information out into the open as often as possible and to as many people as possible
