Bytether — The New Bitcoin

__________________________________________________________________
Bitcoin and other varians
Bitcoin is the most well-known cryptocurrency and well-known for having scalable issue. There are various approaches to solve Bitcoin problems such as fork into Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold and the cancelled Segwit2x Bitcoin2x but Bytether is different.

__________________________________________________________________
Bytether
Bytether (https://www.bytether.com/) is born to solve the problem with Ethereum blockchain technology. Bytether team let Ethereum solve the scalable issue so that we can focus on solving other problem like payment.

What is Bytether?

__________________________________________________________________
Bytether (pronounce as byte-ther) is a 1:1 cross-fork of the Bitcoin blockchain onto the Ethereum network at block 478,558 (Same as Bitcoin Cash). Any Bitcoin holder who has 1 BTC at block 478,558 can claim for 1 BTH(Bytether).

Bytether’s sole focus is building a greater payment ecosystem. As an ERC20 token, Bytether takes all advantages of Ethereum blockchain technology with faster transaction time and cheaper transaction fee while maintaining currency characteristics of Bitcoin

__________________________________________________________________

Bytether is the new Bitcoin

Why Bytether?

It is undeniable that Bitcoin is the most well-known cryptocurrency, yet the fundamental implementation of Bitcoin built its own obstacles such as low transaction speed and high transaction fee. Ethereum is much better in that concerns.

No doubt there are quite a few other coins trying to replicate Bitcoin on Etherum network but Bytether is different. We do cross-fork from Bitcoin blockchain to Ethereum network to provide a better currency and enable Bitcoin holders to instantly on-board. Bytether is the real equivalent Bitcoin on the Etherum network.

Cryptocurrencies payment is still inaccessible to many parties due to Bitcoin lack of the smart contract and discrepancy between various ERC20 tokens. Bytether, on the other hand, focuses itself on payment and payment only. With a specialized smart contract, Bytether can handle complicated payment transactions.

Interesting. Is it obligatory to join your slack in order to receive Bytether? You should have a mailing list for that purpose.

Hi Adamlm,

> Interesting. Is it obligatory to join your slack in order to receive Bytether?

No, not really. In term of receiving Bytether, we have two main steps.

Step one is for BTC holders who have BTC before a block, that we will inform later. The holder need to verify their ownership of a BTC address in order to claim the same amount of BTH. We will have smart contract to verify and claim BTH.

Step two to grow the user pool. We will distribute 1.000.000 BTH to whitelisted BTH users. The whitelisting process hasn't been finalized yet. We need to see how people react to the project before decide the next move.

Join our Slack is one way to help us interact with the community and give updates asap.

> You should have a mailing list for that purpose.

Yes, we will definitely have it soon. However, we need to have one central place to provide information to people.

Currently, we have to use multiple platforms / channels to do announcement since we have no choice. But it would be better to have one place to inform you all about when to launch whitelist registration, claiming process and so on.

Thank you.

really interesting project!

can you give more details around how the cross-forking actually works? you said this is all done through a smart contract? so you would need to sign an eth contract and give it an eth address? are there any security issues here? and how do you prove ownership of a bitcoin address??

I think we need to sign-in a message with Bitcoin wallet/address to prove ownership of BTC and post it into your Smart Contract to get equal BTH. Am I right?

Yes, exactly. You can create an ETH address and sign it with your bitcoin wallet. We will provide a verification contract for you to send this signature. Once verified, your ether address will reserve the right to claim the bitcoin address balance.

We will provide detailed guide once we complete our verification contract, ETA 2 week.

@pure_happiness_inside: This should answer your question, too :)

So what is this trying to accomplish? If you make a token just to make a token it doesn't really mean alot. What does this bring to the crytpo economy, what problem does this fix etc?

We tried to answer with the first post.

tl;dr

BTC is good to hold value, but it is not good for payment because BTC transaction is slow and expensive.
ETH's transaction, in the order hand, is faster and cheaper

We want to separate of concerns. Let ETH handle blockchain and take advantages of BTC's currency properties. In our road map, we also provide payment integration for Bytether(BTH)

BTH = BTC + ETH + Payment ecosystem.

Long version

It is undeniable that Bitcoin is the most well-known cryptocurrency, yet the fundamental implementation of Bitcoin built its own obstacles such as low transaction speed and high transaction fee. Ethereum is much better in that concerns.

Yes, you can. Our design allows users to sign whenever they want. However, we are going to change the CrossFork block 494,784 to BitcoinCash block 478558(Aug 1st, 2017).

We will announce the change and give instruction to claim BTH on Medium.

I'm having trouble claiming mine.
One transaction in MetaMask gave a warning, the second one gave an error, neither give me any token.
The transactions are confirmed on the ehtereum network though:
first
https://etherscan.io/tx/0xd51b136d87867a5ebb1c1f239cf26d3bc64d0b30d5857ad609b52b9dde444c62

Same issue on my side, I have claimed my bytether, signed the message, done the smartcontract transaction (which has been validated correctly by the ETH network), and then... NOTHING !
Already more than 90 minutes and no tokens given. It was supposed to be delivered in the following 30 minutes.

Does anybody get his token ?

I'd rather buy if the project starts turning out as a good short term investment. Aint got time for wahala. Time na money!!

Hi, it was my mistake...
I tried to check my BTH balance using Etherscan, but it is not viewable with this site.
After asking by email to bytether team, they replied to me : Checking balance using MyEtherWallet will allow you to see your BTH tokens amount.

Conclusion : It worked fine for me !

Hi uniqueheart,

Our smart contract needs to verify various stuff there for it costs more gas. However, the price = gas used * gas price.
If you set 1gWei then it will only cost you few cents

For example, you can check this one
https://etherscan.io/tx/0xfb0681fab3f09a39de7ff265836cd23db7298c8bafb02c13cf7bda6f00332d90

It only costs $0.01

I can't sign messages from there and can't claim therefore  :-[

Hmmm, there was not a single trade of Bytether (BTHE?) on Etherdelta for 3 days...

Currently, claiming your BTHE is more expensive (due to gas fees) than dumping 10 tokens !

Such a shame, the system to clone the amount of BTC into the ETH/ERC20 blockchain is working very well.

but if you see this I don't see any convenience for any airdrop :(

It's listed only in ether delta? there are not any exchange? It was a nice project is not good see this bad potential :(

You may need to round down the amount of BTH a bit for the transaction to work.

Yes.  That's the entire idea.

https://www.bytether.com/register.html (https://www.bytether.com/register.html)  -- Just plug in any bitcoin address (yours), and it will tell you if there is BTH to claim or not.  Then you just follow the process to claim them.

That said, there is a current issue.  Not sure if it's bytether fault or etherscan.io problem.

It appears the BTH was in the registered address, and now it's not.  Seem liks a goof in the matrix.  Waiting on a response now.

two things lead me to believe this project isn't serious:

1. the etherscan.io link you provide to check balance doesn't work for hours, giving a 404 error. I just checked, it finally works and shows me a 0.0 balance: https://etherscan.io/token/0xfad572db566e5234ac9fc3d570c4edc0050eaa92?a=0x8d6557dc4bcf9f81658c2b54dd5327986d447a1f

2: for my 2nd Bitcoin address, I entered a wrong ETH address, the last character should have been a 7 and I put an 8. your program didn't detect this; there is only a 1 in 4 billion chance that the address would have passed a simple checksum check. so this means you didn't do it, and don't give the user a chance to correct it.

so far, I'm not impressed.

my bad. I just read up on this. ETH addresses that don't have any uppercase characters aren't checksummed. so this was totally my fault and I apologize. how much would I have to pay to have that registration deleted so I can redo it with the correct address?

Already on blockfolio.

hi, I've just verified my btc address but don't understand what is meant by 'make a transaction to the contract address'. Can anyone explain. Thanks.
the contract is on the Ethereum blockchain, and has its own address like any other recipient. except you don't send it any money, you only send "gas" along to convince miners to mine it.

a tutorial with screenshots is here: https://medium.com/@bytether/how-to-access-your-bth-dfc17e36c51c

I highly recommend installing MetaMask first. MyEtherWallet is confusing AF.

They haven't responded in nearly a week now.

Their website is now taken down as well.

That was a scam in my opinion.

They (I think it's been THEM) only wanted to collect some data, so as to merge the addresses that where used to claim the tokens and thus have a confirmed trail in the blockchain research database. Combining the results of in- and outputs of these addresses leads to the person who holds the funds, if there is a connection to fiat at some point of the trail.

I was dumb enough to hand it over to THEM.

I just went to the site, hopefully they will be back. I would be surprised if this turns out to be a scam.

I wanted to learn a little about Solidity and Ethereum so I had a look at the Bytether contract to see what it was up to.

First thing is that virtually all of the technical differences on the comparison chart in the OP are due to Ethereums's features.  BTH is just specifying the total circulating supply and launch date.  They haven't developed anything technically significant.

They briefly mention a "user growth pool" of 3m BTH.  I don't see them mentioning that there is also a "developer fund" of 1m BTH.    Both of these are created on top of the 17m bitcoin they're intending to crossfork.  There is no attempt to hide any of this in the code, it even has relevant comments.

The contract uses the bytether.com site to get the amount of BTH to be given.  The contract itself makes no attempt to verify this information, it simply trusts the website and also trusts oracalize.it to relay the information.  They claim that they "cannot" assign BTH from the crossfork pool to any accounts, but that is technically incorrect.  As they control the website they can have it reply with any results that they wish.  As I don't see where they list the signatures they have received there would be no way to know if they were assigning themselves BTH for bitcoin addresses that they do not own unless they happened to be caught using an address they couldn't possibly own (note I haven't seen any evidence that they're actually doing this, nor have any reason to believe thay might be).

The fact that the crossfork process relies on the website means that any attempt to crossfork will fail while the website is down (as it currently is).  There are quite a few pending transactions and they will all fail if they get mined while the website is down.

I don't see them mentioning whether they evaluated using a merkle tree of the UTXOs at the time of the crossfork instead of relying on the website.

The contract contains the ability to freeze accounts.  It also contains the ability to automatically buy/sell BTH, although its BTH balance is 0 and this feature is currently turned off.  Their revertCrossFork function can be used by moderators at any time to remove a crossforked balance from its initial address.

The ability to crossfork can be turned off in the contract.  They haven't mentioned when of if this will ever be used.

thanks for your analysis. I guess mine got mined while the website was down, hence no Bytether. my buys are https://etherscan.io/tx/0x1203480f075e8b4a5c4f789266e7e004cea2201d26df48e363de8616985c095f (https://etherscan.io/tx/0x1203480f075e8b4a5c4f789266e7e004cea2201d26df48e363de8616985c095f) and https://etherscan.io/tx/0x3448c2c7dc7bda9d2ee11e778d262b5e8ea5a3cd95fe15e032fd00f955f14e29 (https://etherscan.io/tx/0x3448c2c7dc7bda9d2ee11e778d262b5e8ea5a3cd95fe15e032fd00f955f14e29). both buys sent a trickle (.000305) of Ether to another contract, https://etherscan.io/address/0x3dbdc81a6edc94c720b0b88fb65dbd7e395fdcf6 (https://etherscan.io/address/0x3dbdc81a6edc94c720b0b88fb65dbd7e395fdcf6), but I don't see that mentioned anywhere in the contract. any idea what's up with that?

I only lost about 3 bucks and a few hours on this so I'm not gonna cry. just curious as to what really happened.

I wasted more money and a lot more time claiming.

Looks like it was simply a scam to deanonymize wallets.   Kind of like United Bitcoin is where they keep claiming you get something, but turns out you have to keep giving up more and more information.  With Bytether, as least you get/got something that is worthless and stuck in the wallet.

Looks like it's simply a failure before it even started.  Better luck even with B2X.

I can't access Bytether's website safely.
Is anybody else getting the warning that the connection isn't private? Any chance this will be fixed soon?

Here's the error message:

they redirected their website to google.com. and I'd say no, there's very little chance this will be fixed, ever.

I assume you mean BTH, Bytether, not BCH, Bitcoin Cash.

and my answer is "not necessarily". there are at least two other tokens, Bether and Beth, that use BTH as their symbol.

both buys sent a trickle (.000305) of Ether to another contract, https://etherscan.io/address/0x3dbdc81a6edc94c720b0b88fb65dbd7e395fdcf6 (https://etherscan.io/address/0x3dbdc81a6edc94c720b0b88fb65dbd7e395fdcf6), but I don't see that mentioned anywhere in the contract. any idea what's up with that?

That was Bytether paying Oracalize for the lookup to their website.  However, it was Bythether's ether, not yours.

No, if you see on the left where it says "Make sure BTH is ...", the BTH is clickable and gives you information about the token.    This is Bytether: https://etherdelta.com/#BTHE-ETH

interesting, thank you! yes, I understand it wasn't my ether, all I sent was (barely) enough for the gas to mine the transaction.

No need to follow this thread.

Basically, it's a failed project.  A form of scam to deanonymize your coins.

Can someone explain to me why I didn't got my BTH?
Iv'e registered with this address:

No need to worry about it.  The project failed before it even got off the ground.
