The 24 words are a recovery phrase that help you recover your funds in case your hardware wallet got lost or no longer working for some reason. You should keep them safe though, whoever access to these words, have access to the funds.

Yes thank you Omega, I got it ! Yet.. where does this phrase come from ? as it is presented as built-in and Ledger says << PRIVACY : Your private keys are never held or known by Ledger or a third party: they are hard locked in the Secure Element. With Ledger Nano S, your wallet remains decentralized, you are your own bank. >> (re: https://www.ledgerwallet.com/products/ledger-nano-s ) - well! I'm glad to hear this, but must it be beleived on words ?!  I can't find any description of the creation of the 'phrase' (is there a random generator inside the key ? or has it been pre-manufactured in Ledger's office before mailing it to me ?)

You found the website.... so maybe try reading through some of the FAQs in the support section: https://ledger.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005214469-Are-my-coins-stored-securely-

Basically, the seed is randomly generated when you initialise the device... it is only ever contained within the device and the only time it is displayed is on the devices screen when you first set it up and confirm it.

It certainly isn't pre-programmed... and everytime you reset/wipe the device you generate a new seed.
