If you sent bitcoin to another address by mistake, then there really isn't anything you could do on your part.  However, if you know the contact information of that person, you could always PM him to send it back.

i never experience like that because i read properly everytime i make a transaction like twice or more then if the transaction is my first like in other site i make only a little bitcoin like 0.0005 to try their site if its legit or good enough to handle my money if you want to retrieve your bitcoin in others you need the transaction record or the information of the person that you send your bitcoin

Never happened to me.  It would be impossible to send bitcoin to someone by mistake.  I copy the bitcoin address and then paste it.  That action will be hard to have a mistake.  So if you said you do it wrong, maybe it is the other way around.  Your friend sent you an address that is not belongs to him

Hasn't happened but, I would like to warn everyone about a virus that changes the bitcoin addresses - just before you hit send.

It tracks the mouse movement and when its near the Send button, it changes the bitcoin address to the hacker's address. So, everyone please be careful and install latest anti-virus and anti-malware softwares onnly.

I never experience that too, and I never ever wish that thing will gonna happen to me.
I just had encountered wrong people where I just sent money, like it was turned to scam, just find out later I was scammed, that was a big laugh from and big lesson to mh life.
Anyway, in connection, I never had that mistakes before, and if you had, sad to say that you cannot get that anymore no matter how you trace those code, you will find it so hard to do so.

Never. But I can see how it can happen. Maybe you were going to send a few coins to a friend, but forgot that you already had crtl+c or copied another address from a previous transaction, you hit paste on your wallet and then send, but forgot to double check because it wasn't a large sum. It can happen if you're not careful enough. With time you get used to always check every address you send coins to.

Well, in general, this is your inattention. Of course, you can ask the person to whom the money was sent to return your money. But I doubt that he will return, because all people love free money.

Never have I experience this unfortunate event and I wish I won't in the future. Since I don't have much in my wallet right now, I always make sure I got the right recipient address. I always ask for the person to send me the addy so I'll just copy and paste it directly. And then make at least 2x checking if I got the right one. It's hard if we sent it to other addy especially if we have no idea who owns that and we can't cancel the transaction. Once you hit the button there's no way of retrieving it and the only thing you can do is mentally kick yourself and cry.

I'm afraid to say that if you sent it to the wrong address then that's it gone. It's not like you can just message the address and ask for it back. Important to make sure the address is right.

It's kinda hard due to the nature of blockchain addresses. You don't introduze each character one by one but rather copy it entirly so one wouldn't expect to commit this miskate.

Bitcoin transactions are irreversible. If you send money mistakenly to someone or to the wrong address, there is nothing that can be done to revert the transaction.

How can you make such a mistake i mean it's really rare if someone unintentionally sends money to someone by mistake. Luckily I'm not dumb to do such things even if it does happen with you or anyone you know it's better if you forget the money because once it's sent nothing can be done about it

Never happened to me because I always double check the adress I am sending my bitcoins or any other crypto. But I had an issue that was kind like that. I was sending 0,8 BTC to an adress from the xapo exchange and I took a quick look at the adress and everything was fine for me. But what occured was that I missed a single character and I just saw it when the page was loading to send the btc. I got really scared but fortunately the exchange detected that this adress was wrong and I came back to the withdraw page. So now every single transaction I do I take a look at each character.

Hello author! I'll never heard about sending by mistake because we copy and paste all the addresses but I heard about some person who know all their  he would remember every detail I mean all the addresses all he kept in hes mind. But mostly people just copy and paste all the keys and addresses. It's very hard send it by mistake but maybe you was copy not all ...

..the address without  the one or more numbers. Maybe all you need to do it's check it twice or more time and send little amounts to be sure that address are real and etc. Of course if you know all the detail about recipient then you can explain that it was just mistake and maybe (000000,1%) he or she send to you all it back but I am not sure.

if it has happened, good luck. as long as you don't have contact information of the owner of that wallet, money has gone just you have to say by by. if you have the contact information then you hope that person is good person and can send your money back.

Like everyone said, it's very hard to mess up the address since everyone's is so unique. If it happens to get sent to someone else, well then you're kinda screwed.

No, haven't made a mistake like that and i hope i won't, I always try to be more careful specially here, once you made a mistake and sent the money to the wrong address, it's over unless the person who received it sends it back to you which is very unlikely to happen.

I would suggest looking at the first 2 characters, numbers and the last 2 just to be sure. And always do a double check before transferring out. It is precious and valuable stuff!

It's easy to make mistakes with bitcoin addresses so you have to be careful. Bitcoin transactions are irreversible so unless you know the person that got the bitcoin accidentaly there is not much you could do about it. Luckily that has never happened to me but I always check the addresses twice, even if I send to that address many times.

Never did happened to me. And I think will never have such kind of mistake.

Just wondering how this mistake will happened. I mean when you are sending to anyone, you will copied someone address. How come you will copied other person's address if your purpose is to send it to your friend which literally will told you that "this" is their address.

I did that once before when it didn't have much value, like late-early this year. I did try my best to get assistance on its retrieval but was told it was gone! I was just surprised because I thought I had done all the appropriate checks. But I am of the opinion that if bitcoin is mistakenly/wrongly sent to a wrong address, there should be a way to have it reversed; Since there is a transaction chain.

Basically a transaction on bitcoin can not be canceled, be careful in doing any transaction. If we mistakenly send coins to people we know does not matter, but if sent to an address you do not know, then no one can help, because the exchanger can not care because all the wallet security is yours.

there is a virus that changes copy/pasted bitcoin addresses in the clipboard.
If you do not read the address carefully after pasting, then the address you paste can be different than the address you copied.

I do not think I ever send money someone by mistake. I always double check the address before I clicked the send button making sure that I entered the correct address.  We should be careful and double check the address before we send the transaction because in cryptocurrency the transaction made is irreversible.

It has never happen to me, I think this is one of the feature of bitcoin i.e it is very secured.
People hardly make a mistake of copying a wrong address while sending bitcoin, although if this happens it could be difficult getting it back because how do we trace the recipient of the bitcoin?  And it is obvious that the transaction is irreversible.

Yes it is difficult, there are so many bitcoin addresses right now, but it is almost impossible to send to anyother wallet by mistake, because if you try to change a letter for a copied address, it will say that it is an invalid one, because there are not too many addresses, because there are so many digits and possible combinations.
But i made a mistake a few years ago, i sent $50 to a person by mistake, i just coppied the wrong address, and i sent to another guy instead of sending the money to the real receiver.

Title: Re: send money to someone by mistake
Post by: Terry05 on October 13, 2017, 09:55:07 PM
Its better to pause for a moment and do checking or verify the exact block chain wallet address of your receiver. there is always confirmation pop-up in the system every time you send bitcoin to other block chain account address.I thinks typing or pasting wrongly will create a big trouble in your side.luckily I haven't experience that because I carefully check the address before sending it.

Ive almost done that thing but luckily I have rechecked the address everytime when I do make some transfers and this is really my habit ever since which I do make some review either on both amount and on the address. There are times I do paste not correct address either its being added up by some character or decreased some.Luckily I didn't able to press that send button which would really be a cause of loss for sure. This is why its really advisable to make review anytime because there are instances that we do really make mistakes specially when we are on a hurry.

If something like that happens, I currently intend to do a replace-by-fee transaction so that it doesn't go to anyone it isn't supposed to, but if that doesn't work then I suck up the loss and make sure to not have it happen again, unless I want to lose more. Luckily, over the time I have been active within the community, I have had zero issues with sending Bitcoin to the wrong persons. Double-checking transactions goes a long way, and making sure that at least the first and last digit are the same is usually more than enough to ensure everything goes smoothly.

I have heard of people losing a lot due to some issue in the same vein, though.

That's not very likely to happen if you even give a second to check the address. Never happened with me as I have an habit to double check the address that I am sending. And it's not possible for you to send to an invalid address as the wallet should give you an error so missing a character or 2 while copying the address shouldn't be a problem.

It has never happened with me neither i think it can happen with someone. First of all you need a bitcoin address in order to send some satoshi to someone and everyone who use the bitcoin contain different addressees. So why would you type the an address with your own mistake to someone else address.

Luckily, Its not yet happening to me and hoping that it will never be. But something different happened to me, I've done so wrong sending BTC, I made a mistake when I overlooked that there will be charge for sending BTC. It never came to my mind that I have to pay  fee for sending on a external platform. I regret that I just do my usual way of transaction not minding other fees, what's worse is that, the fee/charge I paid is a larger amount than the BTC I have sent to a friend. After that, I become more careful.

Nope. I always check the address that i am sending before clicking anything to send the money. Remember, you are dealing your own money to someone over in the internet which is if you send it in the wrong address you may never gonna get that money again. So, my tips is that check everything before you send it to someone. What i mean by checking is that look the address one by one. Always do a double check before you send that's it.  ;)

If you sent bitcoin to another address by mistake, then there really isn't anything you could do on your part.  However, if you know the contact information of that person, you could always PM him to send it back.

Bit in an instance that you somehow just mistakenly add some character(s) or erased it then there's nothing you can do. Transactions are irreversible in Bitcoin. As for me, I haven't encountered it yet since I double check the address.

Fortunately no. Not yet. And I prefer not it to happen to me. So every time you make transactions, make sure you do it right or else you know what will happen. Check it and make sure every character is right. Never overlooked because you won't get it back once you made the transaction.

This is one of the disadvantages BTC has over fiat, becaus eonce the money is sent by mistake to someone, you can't retrieve it, and you can only pray that the other guy who received it, is human enough to send you back the BTC.  And if you are sending big quantities, you have always to double check to which address you are sending, so you don't send it to anyone by mistake.

I'm not sure how you would do that, all you have to do is scan the QR code. If you're typing it in manually I feel bad for you, you should always double and triple check to make sure you copied it correct.

As for that issue I can recommend what my brother in law told me about. one tip is to use the Ctrl + f to paste the address after filling up the the receivers address for just to check if it's the same as the original source. But be always sure to read it very carefully because some virus will always paste the new address in every blank form. And by using this method I have never mistakenly send btc anyone.

The one who receive the money you give is lucky but how did you know that you send it to someone or you just send it to unknown address that isnt exist?

This is one of the disadvantages BTC has over fiat, becaus eonce the money is sent by mistake to someone, you can't retrieve it, and you can only pray that the other guy who received it, is human enough to send you back the BTC.  And if you are sending big quantities, you have always to double check to which address you are sending, so you don't send it to anyone by mistake.
I had a case when I sent it by mistake bitcoins. It was the Manager of one of the companies signature which I wore. I returned the coins but can be caught and dishonest people. The amount was very high for me and for the Manager. Maybe it will be a niche that will take in the future, banks. The safe transactions and the possibility of backsliding.

There was also an issue before, i don't know if it was still up untio now, but actually before there was also some kind of hack or what do they call it, that you copy your address and once you paste it, another address will come out, even though you keep on repeating it same address still appears after you pasted it. That was also one of the reasons why some people tell they have been scammed, hacked, phished, or they have send it mistakenly.

There was a recent report that there was a speeding scam wherein in copying the address via wallet, the address is bring changed.
So I have never experienced something like these and hope that I don't now or the near future.
Advice is check your address everytime you are going to transfer.

I think it's impossible if it happens in the bitcoin world, chances are people have a wallet address that resembles 0% because each of the account addresses generated by the machine will not produce the same character.

This is a unique thing to happen because you just make a lettra that the procesors will not receive it and say that it is Invalid addres. Depending on the other addres you used and you mistakenly write it to your recipient. But you can get it back if you know what you've sent. But if you do not know what you have sent you pray that it will be returned to you

i was able to experience this kind of situation but not Mistakenly,

Few days ago I was trying to join a signature campaign. then i have to put the given information to apply,

when i copy my bitcoin address to the reply Post, something was wrong the wallet that has been copied was another address,

so I think that if it valid, then I try to send a little amount of btc which is .000001 but it was not send to my original address,
so i post a new topic regarding of my problem, and somebody replies that my pc is affected by a virus called COPY-PASTE virus.

this is A real Problem so You better Check Your PC too. and then most often check the wallet address you are copying when Transacting.

I hope This Help Who Think that someone send money by mistake.

This will be very rare to happen but if that occurs to you there really isn't anything you can do because the transactions are ireversible. As sad and very disappointing as it is the only measure we can do to avoid this is always double check the address that you are sending to.

Never happened with me because I double check the addresses and the amount every time I send money to anyone. You should be patient and attentive when it comes to the matter of money.

I'm fortunate that It didn't happen to me up to now. Sorry to hear that. But I think there is no way to recover it. Im not sure, correct me if Im wrong.
I read somewhere that there are malware virus now that changed the copied address. We must be more cautious in copy-pasting our wallet addresses.
This post will help others that we must be aware that this scenario actually happen.

I haven't done it before. I always check and double before sending since i know its never refund to us.
So better you reconfirm to check the wallet address 2 or 3 time before sending.

It can be a very unfortunate to realized that we made an honest mistake in sending cryptocurrency  to someone we don't know because for sure the chance for it to be returned is nil. This is the reason we have to be extremely careful on the details we are using and never ever assume that things are okay just by one glance. As for me, so that I would not be crying a river later, I make sure to triple check the details before I finally click the word SEND.

We have to remember that we are on our own here as it would also be difficult for the wallet service provider to be getting into the problem. We must get into the habit of triple checking everything and sending funds should not be done in haste...without you knowing about it you just created a big waste which you will surely regret.

Anyway, just learned the big lesson here and you are on your way to never committing the same mistake next time.

Copy and paste the address of the recipient will eliminate the possibility of sending bitcoin to a wrong person I always check the btc address and ensured that  I am sending it to the right person, this is a very important precaution before sending bitcoin because btc transaction is irreversible.

Nope, I always double or even triple check the address before I send my bitcoins into someone wallet. Always check two-three times when you want to do things about money, it is money man, so be careful about it. Thank god I never had experience about it.

If you send it by mistake or willingly you cant do any thing except for the fact you just message him in the case if you know him/her and request for re sending of bitcoins then its depend on the that person May be he/she can send or may not be.
