The suites were sold for $1,800. There are only 21 pieces so they are highly collectible. The 1 BTC Golds (100 made) sold for $249 and later sold for well over $3,500 a piece.

Yet no one seems to want to keep them.

Sacrificing potential cass type premiums down the road.

Max stated previously that he sold 6 of the suites privately before listing for sale on the website. He also kept one suite for himself. Those 14 remaining that were for sale on the Kialara site sold out within 5 minutes I was trying to buy one but was late in the queue and missed out had to settle for two piece sets. I am surprised a suite is even up for sale:) Good luck with the auction!

Wow, these Kialara moons are so adorable. A little out of my range unfortunatelly.
I am pretty certain Max's work will be legendary (I mean more than now) in 5 - 7 years when the whole world starts using BTC.

2.8BTC.  Really hating I didn't have my wallet with me when I had a suite in queue 2 min after announcement.  By the time I could pay, my set was all I could get.

If you aren't big on numismatics, then I can see the premium seeming high.  No different than collecting rare coins/art/baseball cards etc.

It looks like the winner of this auction will also receive an error coin: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=837501.msg23119782#msg23119782

That's a very interesting bonus, since you can have the coin graded by ANACS.

I don't see the problem with private bids as long as they can be verified.

But to keep things clean, bidders shouldn't have to ask.  (?)

I don't see the problem with private bids as long as they can be verified.

I suppose it really isn't much different than creating a newbie account just to bid... but private bids directly to the host can really screw up timing and sniping as they require the host to publicly repeat the bid.

Or how about if I made a private ebay-style proxy bid that increments to a certain limit, but at a minimum amount higher then the next highest bid?
