Title: Do we know for sure exchanges giving BTCGold ?
Post by: paramind22 on October 14, 2017, 06:14:17 PM
Is there a definite agreement from the BTCGold team that they are giving away BTCGold for BTC?

Are there statements from Coinbase and the major exchanges?

You can get some bitcoin on the Binance exchange, they will handle the bitcoin gold process on your behalf and allocate the BTG to your account.

Thanks.  I already trade on about 8 other exchanges, just haven't seen any announcements on any of them.

When BTG will come on poloniex exchange?
Is it possible to get same amount of BTG on poloniex if I store BTC on 25th Oct?

Probably you will be able to trade your bitcoin gold on binance once that it gets released, and regarding to other user's question, poloniex will add it to their exchange list only if this fork is succesfull.
Just like it happened with bitcoin cash, it was only added to polo three weeks after that bitcoincash was given to everybody.
So yes, it will be added to almost all the exchanges, like bch did.

  • the website is empty http://www.btcgpu.org/
  • the code is not ready yet: https://github.com/BTCGPU/BTCGPU
  • they have not yet even updated the date of the fork yet! it still is set for a block that is long past (10/1/2017 12:00 UTC:

  • the main change which is the heart of this fork (changing the PoW) is still a work in progress and not yet complete: https://github.com/BTCGPU/BTCGPU/pull/15
  • there are other serious issues which are still unsolved. such as two-way replay protection https://github.com/BTCGPU/BTCGPU/issues/18#issuecomment-334234022

you can't expect anyone to take it seriously when nothing is yet clear. they should at least release a wallet/client for it before exchanges even consider adding it and releasing statements.

Typically exchanges will not give out a currency from a fork in Bitcoin, if you want to exploit the opportunity then you have to go out yourself and take your coins, get the private key and then use the private key on the BTCGold or whatever it is network. If you do that then you can nab whatever kind of forked currency you want. But that's the only real way of getting any sort of value from the fork if you have Bitcoin currently in an exchange. If it stays in there and you don't have a private key then it means nothing.

I have seen nothing on the exchanges. I am really not so sure about BTG. If the exchanges do add them, which is 75% of the stuggle with a new coin in getting. I fear we are going to see more and more forks, just to garantee a place on getting on the good exchanges.

Something will change...

On Bitcoin Cash fork (last August) exchanges announced they would give Bitcoin Cash to BTC owners only few days before actual fork happened. So I guess we need to wait at least 1 other week before knowing it. Anyway the best choice in my opinion is always to keep your money on your own wallet and claim Bitcoin Gold (if necessary and if the price is high enough). It couldn't be worth...

Not to sound pessimistic, if all these issues still remain unresolved as at this time when the intended fork is just about 10 days away, I think there is need for serious upgrading by the entire team behind this upgrade. In the case of BCH, there were already enough of this on ground as at the time. What is being discussed had been changed from what will happen to bitcoin in the case of the fork, rather discussion was centering on the issue of 'how do I claim my BCH successfully without compromising my BTC?'.

With all this and even without enough coverage and discussion, we can only hope that the same faith that happened to to Bitcoin Unlimited awaits BCG at this time but to avoid it, something more timely needs to be done.

I am really looking forward to know which exchanges and online wallets will be giving the free Bitcoin Gold. Perviously i remember only Bittrex gave the BCC and later on rest of the exchanges followed. But it is really benefit to get Bitcoin Gold at the start because at that time no one will dump and price will be very high.

usually they or the exchanges will notify the information to their users via email or they can make a notice on their site. just like bitcoin cash I get notice from the exchanges that they will provide bitcoin gold with a rate of 1: 1 from the balance we have.

All the exchanges which offered Bitcoin Cash during the August 1st fork will mostly likely give out Bitcoin Gold after the October 25th fork. Never understood why many users still prefer their money to be on exchanges while it is much safer holding your coins in a wallet with private key access as it is much more convenient instead of checking up with exchanges to disburse the Bitcoin Gold.

Well most of exchanges did that when the BCH fork happen, but I still think it's safer to just keep your coins on a wallet, where you own your private keys, and they you can claim them yourself. You will probably be slower to sell them like this, but this way you know you will get them for sure.

That will be nice step from bitcoin because now a days people are leaving gold to buy and prefer bitcoin because they know that bitcoin can bring in their life happiness while Gold is rising very slowly toward bitcoin. So people moved from Gold to bitcoin. Therefore now a days bitcoin is launching a new project on that it's bitcoinGold.

That ain't true. Some exchanges like Bittrex have handled the last Bitcoin fork pretty well and they gave given every user their Bitcoin Cash. I don't know why they haven't yet announced whether they will support the upcoming forks or not. Maybe they think it is a scam...

I too will like to know about the official news from the exchanges on what is their stance on this Bitcoin gold. Whether they are supporting bitcoin gold  and giving their customers a chance to get free Bitcoin Gold. If anyone has link to this official news it will be appreciated to share here with others so that we know whats the stance of exchanges on this new bitcoin.

maybe i am wrong but i read somewhere on the forum that someone said Yobit is going to add bitcoin gold pretty soon. it is not going to be something new from them either. they usually add coins like this very fast and without paying any attention to anything. even if it has a virus for the wallet. they don't run the wallet anyways!

This will definitely be what Bitcoin cash has done. They want to achieve high value, the distribution of bonuses for investors is obvious.

Some of exchanges that are going to give away bitcoin gold just like when bitcoin cash HF occured is making a notice for their users often through email but may have various ways.
If you don't receive such thing from your favourite local exchanges, you may ask their support. and that's right, bittrex handled pretty well back then.

well, some of these "issues" are work in progress. it is not like they are ignoring them. some of them like the PoW change already has the Pull Request open, the code is ready and somewhat tested. the other issue that may be overlooked is that when forking something like this you have to "extensively" test it. it is not enough to do some tests and rush the fork to meet the deadline.

i also agree, the biggest problem of BTG is the lack of communication. for example the dev only has the slack and twitter. someone who is not on either of these platforms will be left out.
they need to start a proper announcement on bitcointalk, a reddit sub and then start answering questions.

that is why it is considered free money or airdrop anyways :D
specially with the big premine that it has ;)

well according to sir pooya's information i think they are not ready for the fork and they didn't have a code yet so, the fork is far from the reality if the fork will happen, the exchanges will issue a statement or an announcement regarding to BTCG fork or segwit2x fork but it is better to move your fund to offline wallet or any wallet that controls the private key.

I think the BTG hard fork currently does not seem to be a viable fork, but if its happens, From what I've heard Bitcoin Gold isn't getting the same amount of support as Bitcoin Cash before it's launch, however Bitcoin Gold will be interesting because it can be mined with graphics card which will allow more people to mine it easier than Bitcoin. I would suggest holding as much Bitcoin as possible before the fork date. But after the fork you have to claim it before make any BTC transactions, and It depends on where you hold your btc. Personally, I'm holding my btc on a hardware wallet.

Are there statements from Coinbase and the major exchanges?

There is a statement from Bitfinex exchange, but not for BTG hard fork, for B2X Hard fork.
You can read more about it from here : B2X: Bitcoin Exchange Bitfinex Reveals Ticker for SegWit2x Fork (https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/b2x-bitcoin-exchange-bitfinex-reveals-ticker-for-segwit2x-fork/)

Oh boy, this is too funny. No wonder no one is taking them seriously. That's some "I'm late on my college assignment" level shit. It's like the public beta of hardforks. The early access of crypto-currencies. Only instead of a small indie game title, we're talking about an immutable, multi-billion dollar transaction network. Oh boy.

i have never heard the names of either of these exchanges though. i prefer waiting for better known exchanges like bittrex or at least smaller ones like cryptopia to add it.

Yobit exchange also released the information of supporting the bitcoin gold and as soon as the fork happens they will release the bitcoin gold coins in the users account, Just like they have done in Bitcoin Cash they were the exchange who gave their users BCC coin immediately as soon as the fork happened and got confirmation.

i find it odd certain exchanges have remained silent about supporting the BTC Gold Fork.  Binance and Coinbase did a pretty good job at posting info, but i cannot say the same for several other exchanges.  Hopefully they next fork is not so confusing lol

What I know about Bitcoin Gold is wallet and trading sites

Coinomi Wallet Apps.
Jaxx.io Wallet Apps

Exchanger.
Bittrex
Yobit

Just having hold of bitcoins will automatically get you BTG and that's equivalent to how many bitcoins you hold
