Title: bitcointalk account got hacked
Post by: tempaddress on October 15, 2017, 05:02:08 AM
Hi there,

I just made this account in order to get some assistance.  My bitcointalk account has been hacked (password has been reset by someone else).

The e-mail address and bitcoin addresses associated with the account are mine and I can prove that.  If this has happened to anyone, or you know the process to recover the account, can you please share some insight?

Thanks.

Thanks.  When it says <insert signature here> is that the signature script that the account had at the time it got hacked?

No. That signature is from a Bitcoin address signed message. Have you ever posted a Bitcoin address somewhere with that account? If so, you can prove ownership of your account by proving that you control ownership of that particular Bitcoin address (the one that you have posted some time ago). One way to prove ownership of a Bitcoin address is by signing a message using that Bitcoin address.

Okay thanks for the info.  I did post bitcoin addresses that I own for signature campaigns in the past, which I referenced (quoted text + url) in the PM.

Haven't received a response yet, but we'll see how it goes.  Boggles my mind how someone else has possession of my account.

Why would someone even hacked bct account..

Why would someone even hacked bct account..

It's a Sr. Member account, and I can see the "new" owner of the account is on a signature campaign.  So that'd be the reason to hack it.  He seems to be posting on local Turkish boards, which I don't speak or understand.

Needing some more help.  I did post my bitcoin addresses for signature campaigns on this forum, however most are addresses on Coinbase and Jaxx wallets, both of which don't have an option to sign a message, which is required to recover an account.

I did use MyCelium for 3 weeks on a signature campaign with Bitmixer, which was registered through they're own site (not from signing up on the thread in this forum).  I can sign a message for this address, however I didn't post it in this forum.

I do still own all the bitcoin wallets associated with addresses posted here, as well as the original e-mail before the account was hacked.  I'd appreciate any help or assistance.

Cheers.

Since my BTC addresses posted on this site belong to Coinbase and Jaxx Wallets (which don't have signed messages), would I be able to prove that I own the account any other way?  For example, making a small payment to an agreed upon BTC address at a certain time?

If the BTC addy wasn't posted prior to this signing, what is the point?
Read the sticky in Meta slowly and let it sink in.

I have posted BTC addresses several times over the past couple years on this forum to wallets that I still have active.  I'm just saying those wallets (Coinbase and Jaxx) don't have options to sign messages, however I still control the wallets and can send payment as proof.

The original e-mail address associated with the account (from 2015 - Oct 2017) is also mine.  The password was changed on October 20th and it's also obvious that the posts and language used is different all of a sudden.

I've already read the sticky.

It states: "I very rarely recover accounts if you can't prove ownership as described above. There are alternative ways of proving ownership, but they take too much time."

I'm looking for anyone's help that has either proved their ownership alternatively, or has experience to help with my situation.

I'm glad you've taken the time to read my post, but repeating the same reply isn't really helpful.

Nor is asking the same old tired questions than have been answered many times.
