Yes it's using equihash algorithm.

They are forking on 25 Oct, block # has not been announced yet.  Rumor has it mining won't begin until November, but nothing firm yet.  Best to join their Slack channel if you are interested.

It seems to me that in order not to suffer with this issue you need to install the software from NiceHash and the program will automatically choose the most profitable option. Then we can draw conclusions. I do not advertise NiceHash just choose the easier option.

Best to google Bitcoin Gold Slack and click on the links.. the invites only last so long so you need to find a current valid invite.

Ahhh man i hope this bitcoin gold will be profitable to mine. Been looking for atl coins to mine with my gpu rigs. Everything im mining is just getting by right now.

Also what wallets will be supporting bitcoin gold? If there is no know wallet yet. Have the dev developed a working wallet yet? Kinda noob on this wallet thing from bitcoin to equihash. If someone can clarify this wallet thing, would appreciate it.

It will be a good replacement for Ethereum once we enter POS phase, that is for sure...

so it will be equihash mining. so gpu mining will be good again. how will the diff adjust down for gpu's to be profitable?

This is awesome.  Always have to stay actively looking for new coins to mine if you are a GPU miner.  So many worthwhile coins but I would be sure to also keep a few and not sell them all in case they go up.

We need to wait until October 25. All is now speculation, nothing is sure.

I think don't mining BTC Gold untill they settle the coin and the price because it's probably high become scam mining.

Waoo! this will surely favor me as I have been nursing idea of mining bitcoin related coins. If we have cups or graphic processing unit, we can mine bitcoin gold. It means mining bitcoin gold will be profitable at this early stages and I think it is better compare to mining bitcoin cash and it is almost impossible to mining bitcoin core now with cpu.

This is a Good alternative but the Ehereum is also a good option for us.

On October 25th, the fork will happen and the BTC blockchain will be frozen. My understanding is mining won't start until the fist week of November, if the fork goes smoothly and if the developers can get the switch to Equihash working in time.

October 25 is just snapshot of bitcoin, I guess mining will be started by november.

What is the meaning to mine coins that are impossible to sell? It seems to me that you need to wait until the sales bitcoin gold exchange. In any case it is good that periodically appear coins that can revive the possibility of mining with the GPU. In my rigs invested a lot of money and very sad to watch as a permanently falling profitability.

As far as I know, several large exchanges have already announced the adoption of the Gold. So that with the exchange there will be no problems.

Trading site are now implementing bitcoin gold option as soon possible. You may find Yobit and bitrex are also trying to implement it in the trading list now.
Until the Bitcoin Gold is comes to in use we cannot say which network pool, what algorithm and how much hash rate requires to mine one coin and all.
Please wait till November 25th then you can decide whether mineable at that time it or added later.

I do not recommend anyone to take the time to mine a new coin. You will work in idle. I don't believe in the future of this coin. My GPU is now digging ETH+ DCR. It is not very profitable but still profitable. Bitcoin gold can bring only losses. Now, the discussion of mining the bitcoin gold is how to divide a skin of not killed bear.

I'll probably give it a try too, ETH is still interesting for me today, I make 11-12$/day with no electricity cost and sometimes I switch to ZEC but I haven't found any alternative coin yet where I could make more profit with GPU mining.

It is already being mined privately to mine 200,000 coins for the "developers".

I am hopeful that it will succeed as Equihash could certainly use another coin.  I don't think BTG is a scam or a cash grab.  

That is good news. Let`s wait for release and see what GPU are best for mining Bitcoin Gold. I hope it would be pretty much profitable mining on GPU that CPU.

Only good think that will come out of this is a some portion of miners switching to mine Bitcoin Gold and lowering a difficulty on other coins for about next 7-10 days when they realize its no longer profitable and switch back.

It will be good for 24 hours and then everybody will jump on it.

Do you have information about which software platform will be the best for mining BTC Gold or is it still early for it? I would like to start with the mining immediately after the fork but I can not find how to set up the RIG. I have 4 x GTX 1070 cards.

With 4xGTX 1070 you will get eaten alive in the first hour of mining  ;D
Thousands of 1080Ti's will be jumping on this from the get go.

1070 is better to stay with ETH. Let the 1080Ti or 1080 mine the Equihash.

1070 is way better for mining equihash than the 1080ti and 1080.

At this moment I can buy exactly two 1070 for the price of one 1080ti (prices in my country). One 1070 does 485 sols @135 watt, so I will have 970 sols for 270 W for the same price as one 1080ti.

We all know how much the 1080ti does on equihash.

The difference is so large that I really dont understand how you can recommend this. The 1080 is even worse for equihash again due to GDDR5X memory.
