Title: Did I just lose all my BTC transferring from Bread to Electrum?
Post by: GusTheBus23 on October 15, 2017, 02:57:12 PM
Just a disclaimer that I am very new to all of this. So I was trying to send all my BTC from the Bread iOS app wallet to Electrum on my PC. So I scanned the code and sent it and everything but on the Bread app it is stuck at 40% complete and on Electrum it says "Estimated confirmation time: Unknown (Low Fee)". With a little caution type sign next to it...

So my question is did I just lose all of my Bitcoin!? Thanks in advance, any advice/information/tips would be greatly appreciated!

No, you didn't lose coins. breadwallet is still syncing and thus probably did not calculate the correct fee for a next block confirmation while you sent the coins. They'll arrive but might take time...

There is a catch as I know the bread wallet doesn't hold your account, all you have to manage your recovery phrase and keep it in a safe place.
If you already uninstalled your app and don't have the recovery phrase with you then you have to worry as if the transaction fails to get confirmation due to low fees then the coins will get return into the same bitcoin address and you won't able to access them

If that's the case then you have to use some transaction accelerator service to get confirmations as soon as possible. Otherwise, you will end up losing your coins.

But if you have the app still on the phone and also have the recovery phrase with you then you need not worry as the coins can be recovered in any condition later.

You should find a transaction id for that unconfirmed transaction. You can look up your address that you sent the coins to or from in some block explorer like this one https://blockexplorer.com/ (https://blockexplorer.com/) (you might want to use Tor borwser for anonymity) or you might want to try to look it up in Electrum, if it offers such feature.

Getting txid will allow you to look up more details about that transaction, like the exact fee it was used, you can see more info about the transaction by putting txid in a block explorer. You can post the fee here or even txid if you don't mind the privacy complications of reveling your address publicly.
You can look up the appropriate fees on bitcoinfees.21.co (http://bitcoinfees.21.co) or just ask here for that fee and someone will approximate the confirmation time for you.

Don't worry even if you lost access to that old wallet as long as you have the address that the coins were sent to (the Electrum one).
You can always use CPFP method to get that transaction confirmed quickly, whenever you want.

Just take your transaction ID, and contact their customer service.
Maybe they'll be able to find it.

I think the fees are low and that is why you are getting that message. I suggest you to wait for sometime now - it can take painfully long time to confirm if the fees are low but they will at one time. If you have the transaction ID - check that on any block explorer and check the fees and the amount you sent.

Double check the fees next time because paying an optimum fees is important if you dont want a slow transaction.

I think your wallet is syncing and it is still on 40 percent done, so everything will be fine just a little patitent.
