Title: Large bitcoin mining farm mining 4 blocks a day having made 1600BTC
Post by: Dougie on June 06, 2013, 09:20:45 PM
Hi. Sorry for posting this again here but I think it fits under bitcoin discussion and under mining speculation. Maybe with a few more views someone will have an idea of what's going on. Feel free to delete this if you feel it is inappropriate to have posted it twice.

Anyway! I just wondered if anyone had noticed that a lot of the blocks that are relayed through various ip address nodes are actually being mined by the same user:

1BxD2VLE95n7ZeVJSy3uoiJ5WdR72jWj5f (http://blockchain.info/fb/1bxd2v)

If you have a look they have a lot of bitcoins already and are generating around 4 blocks a day.

Anyone have any idea who this is? More ASIC developers but this time they are keeping them all for themselves?

Quite scary that one person or group has this much power and they are possibly not even on the radar like ASICminer.

ASICminer has publically known addresses and pays out dividends whereas this farm is keeping them all at one address. It's almost definitely AN ASIC setup since the alternatives would be ridiculous at this sort of speed but unless they are going against what they said they'd do and share the profits of each part of the company then it's not them.

A private pool?
A pool would have transactions going from that address to multiple others though. If it was a private pool owned by some people who are all very trusting of the one account holder to pay when they needed then perhaps. Or some variation on that. Some family members. I feel it's more likely to be one group though.

time for some descentralization on mining?  we have a few public pools, some private, now some private groups, and maybe some soloists still trying their luck...

I guess it is a good thing if it becomes more and more decentalised. We probably don't need to worry too much about them getting too powerful. There are so many reasons why that wouldn't happen. I'll keep an eye out and see if they ever decide to transer any of those coins!

Want decentralization ? Use P2Pool. Convince other people to use P2Pool.

Whoever this is, had an initial capital and either purchased OR made himself an ASIC and is reaping his success. Jealous? Yes, I am, but I am neither smart to design my own hardware nor do I have an initial investment to purchase the hardware.

Yeah it does seem that way. I just wish I'd had some more money last year to buy a bit more than I did but there's no point wishing your life away.

I'm just surprised whoever it is hasn't been cashing some of it out already. They are clearly not only big investors but also very confident in the bitcoin protocol which is nice.

While definitely jealous and always suspicious of the ASIC suppliers themselves for the mega-cash (like the posted address) they could be making while the products we ordered get old.....

My biggest question is why this miner is being so blatant about it.  If they made a script to roll a hundred addresses on the hour for example, we would have never found this.

Course, duh.

One of the other two ASIC companies doing a bit of a "test run" with their customers' hardware, seems like the most likely option.

That doesn't say anything about a large mining operation. Maybe he discusses it in the IRC rooms.

Anyway it looks like I've scared them away from mining to this address. Maybe it's just a coincidence. Anyway it's a shame. I was enjoying seeing their coins go up so quickly!

Well, it was also highly visible on basically every blockchain viewer that suddenly an IP address was raking in over pools.

Back mining. Maybe yesterday was an unlucky day.

These guys have been mining since April so I don't think it was part of this spike. This spike is just the line from now on!

With almost 4Th/s?
This means:
4'000Gh/s-> with 250Mh/s on average with GPU mining -> 80PC running 24H at 100%

No need to apologise, I'm just wondering if anyone actually knows. Speculation is good too though and it seems like a good theory. I'd have thought they'd be publicising their power though to encourage people to buy into their scheme.

The Cost of Freedom (in BTC)

1. Name of any goverment agencies you trust.
2. A well known politician that isn't black.
3. A well known female cleansing product that isn't a bag.
4. Name of goverment agency you fear the least.
5. An activity you enjoy.
6. The name of an company involving a winged insect with a very attractive website claiming they manufacture pre-orders ASICS.
7. Least favorite Pop Star
8. Favorite Sugary breakfast cereal.

This is a true story, all named individuals involved have testified and are on file with the DOJ.
I apologize for my poor dyslexia, I have horrible spelling.

The spike was mastermined during a late night _(Cereal)_ crunching session between _(Politician)_ and the well known _(Pop Star)_ , the _(least feared Government Agency)_'s top operative. They must have realized the imminent danger _(Activity You enjoy)_ poses to freedom for American's everywhere. It was then decided that extreme measures were justified, after all America was founded by men of action.
Thus the conspiracy was born.
_(Pop Star)_ gained access to the _(winged insect ASIC Manufacturer)_ 's CEO using their fame as the way into the secretive operation while buying the lowest pre order available on e-bay for an absurd amount of tax dollars $$ for no reason anyone has been able to identify other then future personal financial gain. Once in _(Pop Star)_ had been well trained at Guantanamo to use _(Female Cleansing product that's not a bag)_ as a Jack Bauer style improve torture. The CEO quickly caved to what can only be described as imaginative and depraved form of torture that justice department lawyers approved as a Geneva acceptable. Once broken he was theirs and has been working for them.

Now you know the truth. What you do with it is up to you.

I have both cereal bowls from the night it all began. I will auction them starting at .000000100000000000000 BTC in a thread starting at 11:59:59, july 3rd 2076.

Aynstein, that is the most bizarre post I've read in a while... A very cryptic way of saying who you think is mining!

I've been looking at where the IPs are generally located and I don't think you can say anything for sure. I just think the mining operation is a fairly well connected node (but not connected to blockchain). You get some looking as if they've come out of America, some from Europe, some from Russia and a decent number from Japan and China.

There are lots of major players moving into Bitcoin mining with serious money and serious equipment. Many industry leaders from finance to computer science.

I just read this news of a Private Equity firm investing $200 million into Bitcoin mining. Here is the full story:

Are you retarded? I mean I could understand converting it to Norweigian Krone or Singaporian dollars, maybe even gold or other "real" currency, BUT USD? LEWL, keep your fancy toilet paper to yourself.

There are lots of major players moving into Bitcoin mining with serious money and serious equipment. Many industry leaders from finance to computer science.

I just read this news of a Private Equity firm investing $200 million into Bitcoin mining. Here is the full story:
http://www.efinancialnews.com/story/2013-08-05/bitcoin-gold-rush-heats-up-with-private-equity-deal

Bitcoin mining is about to get much more competitive over the next few years.

Investor Joe Lewis isn’t investing in a bitcoin venture called Avalon and doesn’t lead a Zurich-based private-equity fund called the Phoenix Fund. An article on the supposed investment was inaccurately published and has been removed.

So much chaff, so little wheat.

I'm just speculating and probably saying what a lot of people may have already said but I wouldn't be surprised if this was BFL mining with their customers hardware. They could easily have their mini-rigs setup and running in a warehouse collecting BTC. When the difficulty gets too high in another 2 months or so(October), their problems will miraculously be "solved" and they will start hitting that quoted 300 units a day shipping estimate as they drop all the hardware.

you are right, its been a month..

time for some descentralization on mining?  we have a few public pools, some private, now some private groups, and maybe some soloists still trying their luck...

Want decentralization ? Use P2Pool. Convince other people to use P2Pool.
is there any benefit to use a "normal" pool, instead of p2pool?

This was normal a few years ago...it's an artifact of a still small network (small number of asics, that is).  When I did better than this with my laptop, I didn't think it was scary or bad...I was supporting the network.

There is no way in hell that this stems from BFL, because that address' first transaction occurred on April 6, 2013: http://online.wsj.com/article/Corrections.html

If you recall, BFL didn't ship the Luke Unit till April 1, 2013, 5 days later, thus by maths it's utterly impossible to accuse BFL in any wrongdoing.

Somebody double check my work to see if I'm indeed correct, even though I've yet to make a mistake on this forum.

Makes sense to me Phinnaeus.

Who then had the hashpower pre-BFL to do this?

Look more closely at the time stamps on the transactions at that address. Some of them are a week apart early on. So the payouts (and hence solved blocks) were relatively sporadic until around May 28th. After that payouts were much more frequent (3-4 a day).

It begins April 6th with one block. Then April 8th they had 3 blocks, April 10th they had 2. Then between April 11th and May 27th (46 days) only 15 transactions to that address. It could have been early testing followed by full mining beginning late May

From tx 5edd86ee3608121acdd1014eeb3facd5c2e802cabe70925261ac02bcd3b299bc, this is almost certainly Avalon.
