Title: Reserved Posts
Post by: JimmyFL on June 07, 2013, 07:29:12 AM
Stop these reserved posts everywhere!

Reserved should be used only for additional details left out by op.

If you have something to say, say it, or STFU!

This whole [Reserved] shit is stupid anyway, just edit the OP.

Reserved post actually have use, when op has a project and the post is too long for updates, it is nice to have so I don't have to hunt thru the thread.
It's best to simply edit the main post of the thread rather than reserving another one.

If SMF is anything like most forums, there is an actual post size limit, so reserving post #2 has some utility.

Yes, post size, as in "size of a post." Not "number of posts." When did I say "post number?"

Aren't 64000 characters enough?

If you run into the post size limit through edits, I can create an extra post for you below the first post. No need to worry too much about this.

Im seeing -seemingly random- people reserving posts on the first page of [ANN] threads all the time. Why is this ? Just in case the have a brilliant insight that will seem incredibly witty in hindsight, thus increasing their ePenis in the future ?

Reserved for brilliant insight.

I can go either way.

Usually what I do when I want to keep original content intact is I edit and put in a

---- edited MM/DD/YYYY
Put edited content here

-=-

The only issue I could see with that would be if I was running a contest or something, then I might want to reserve the first post after so that people could be confident that rules specified in first were not altered.

But for most things, editing works just fine.

But I don't really care, personal taste of the OP.

Sometimes second post is reserved for FAQ's.

It would not look nice if everything is dumped into one huge post.
