I just found out that the exchange has started to block accounts!
Without explaning the reason!

Yes, it's all very cryptic at the moment. Bittrex is silent while thousands of users are complaining about disabled accounts and enforced enhanced verification. Journalists are starting to pick the story up: https://twitter.com/WolfOfCryptsy/status/920137064573628416

There is speculation that it has to do with country of origin; apparently many users reside in countries like Iran, Pakistan and Russia. Bittrex is, of course, based in the US. Other users are reporting that Bittrex emailed them and said that since their account was valued at more than $1,000 that it must be verified. In the meantime (days) it seems that many people are simply locked out and unable to trade or withdraw.

i can verify that i to got a notice that i needed to enable enhanced verification before i could withdraw from bittrex.
I immediately exchanged whatever funds i still had with them to LTC and withdrew. I was lucky, cause it seems this worked for me.

I will probably not be using them anymore in the future, since i do not want to send images of myself holding my id and utility bill to a US company.

That is, if the balance is less than 1000 US dollars, you do not have to worry?
I have many open orders in different coins.
And where to translate them now? (

People are definitely moving back to Poloniex from the looks of it. I can already see some volume has moved over there, and I've noticed that whales seem to be moving first on Poloniex today rather than Bittrex. Unfortunately, Polo isn't without its problems -- long wait times for support, stuck withdrawals, etc. But they haven't pulled a scary stunt like this.

It's not clear yet what their new policies are. Bittrex has not released an official statement, and they are not responding to media inquiries. Total radio silence from them. :-\

Really? i was going to start to use some services with them but now maybe i should think on it twice before start using it. At the moment i didn't received an email about verification or something like that like polo did some time ago, but who know, maybe my country is safe for them xD


that's what scares me, that they didn't give a reason to his users, bad bad...

i just checked and i have the same issue! i am going to do the exact same thing too. i already have most of my funds in LTC but i have to sell some other altcoins there also.

where do you migrate to? i have my eye on cryptopia but it is sadly smaller. poloniex is the same too, they also ask for verification

Withdrawals are restricted I think it has also been applied and for news about their user accounts locked by bittrex party may be because there are other things like security, I think maybe they make some new rules that need to be obeyed by users, currently my account is still safe to withdraw

Since there is no Explanation why they are blocking users, if you are into trading and invested as much are they willing to pay for compensation for the said inconvenience about the matter. This should be advised thoroughly to members to know and expect what to do.

I really dont know what to think, on one hand I think they are about to bolt and run, on the other hand am hoping they have a good reason. I was able to withdraw my assets just last week, but I know one or two people that have their accounts blocked.

This is the reason I prefer to have a wallet on my PC not on a website. It's more secured and you have full control, nobody can block you.

Yes that's true although they have not blocked my account but I am required to provide them all my personal details with proof like my passport, driving license or national id. I don't have that much money there on bittrex nor do I withdraw so often yet I'm required to go through verification process. I don't think it's fair in a business where we are talking about less regulations and anonymity that we have to supply such exchanges with so much sensitive data of ourselves.

Bittrex is one of the top exchanges we have and it has a good reputation ever since...it would be sad if they would do something without full explanation of their moves. Customers deserve explanations at all times and they don't deserve to get shocked any time.

There is any offically explanation of Bittrex exchange? I think it's a sudden action what if the people who get blocked and still have money in their account.

And why not send a fake passport?
How can they identify a person who is far away?

I funded an address i generated with my ledger nano S. I'm not a big fan of holding any funds on exchanges or online wallets to begin with. It just happened that i exchanged some ETH i got for a job a couple weeks ago, so i still had some funds i forgot to withdraw on their exchange.

So far no official explanation has been given by Bittrex and many people are waiting. The IRS must have knocked on their doorstep and asked for supporting documents from multiple accounts, that's the only thing I can think of, since Bittrex is US based and there is a very strict control against money laundering and illicit enrichment, at least that's what I've been reading and seen lately. It is no wonder that every exchange (which is not decentralized) is forcing users to check with identities so they do not have future problems with this kind of thing. Bittrex should at least let users withdraw their coins before locking accounts without any explanation or they will lose their good reputation as has happened with Poloniex with its poor support and daily complaints from various users having the same type of problem or even worse.

I'm not surprised at all that Bittrex made this move,and it is possible that some other exchanges make the same in the near future.I think the reason for this is quite simple,they want to identify users due to possible tax collection,money laundering or some other illegal activity.It seems that the trading on exchanges will no longer be possible completely anonymous,or it will be allowed for very small amounts.

I had withdran all my balance since My account could only withdraw 0.025 btc worth. I suspected there will be new regulation that make me lost. I took out all my balance. Now, I enjoy hitbtc. I hope hitbtc will not apply regulation as bittrex does. if the case has taken place to many users, I think there will be many migration of traders to hitbtc or liqui. Both are best exchangers that I know recently.

It's the SEC, they said they would be targeting exchanges to try crash bitcoin so it may never recover. They're also behind a few coins being delisted from Bittrex.
They're a bit butthurt because everything is decentralized and see exchanges as the only way to get control.

Did they already released their offocial statement or whatsoever? Its because i was being asked by my friend what happened to his account, and i was also wondering what are his faults that it leads to that solution. He was very confused and he's worried already since there are no response about his complain why he was being banned by the exchange.

account blocking is very annoying and dangerous especially without the notice can make us confused and ask questions, it could be maybe our mistake when the registration does not use the complete data, certainly many who complain of blocking, hopefully this is not sustainable.

This silence waves a huge red flag! Something is happening and at the first glance it looks very bad. Let's hope all of their coins are still accounted for.

fake passport can be known with something advanced reverse searching, with that, in case you are using stock photos to fake it, they can indicate that easily.

This is really scary!  closing account without any explanation is the worst thing any business can do...  :-[

it is time to start thinking about decentralized exchanges more seriously.

when exchanges like bittrex which are fully crypto versus crypto start asking for account verification it is the end of cryptocurrency trading in centralized exchanges.
and this is happening while we don't need them for trading cryptocurrencies.

What I expect is that users should be allowed to withdraw their funds if they decide not to continue with Bittrex but what I am seeing is that, you are not even allowed to make any withdrawal by virtue of not verifying which means depending on the amount you have there, its either you forget about it or verify. If you then verify to withdraw, then there is no other basis than to continue the use of the their services, But this is a big set back in the crypto-currency world.

It really doesn't take a genius to connect the for as to why they started blocking account. They are based in US and I believe polo will be next. Dollars to doughnut and almost with certainty it has to do with SEC, IRS, etc.

I'm done with bittrex as of now, I wonder why they don't ask for any info or explain you the rules clearly when you deposit your bitcoins... ::)

as they are blocked is a fictional account that is long inactive, seldom doing transactions within the site, or a fictitious account so often do negative things, it's in my opinion

it's accounts registered to people in a very particular group of countries. Turkey, Syria, Iran, India, Russia, and NOT China, South Korea, Japan, Europe, et.c., which suggests it might be a regulatory issue.

Wow, this is REALLY concerning. I have a fully verified account but closing accounts with no explanation (or notification) is concerning as hell.

it seems to be accounts mainly in the countries discussed in a Telegram group. how reliable is that?

this issue needs to be addressed accordingly.

we had one exchange out of all these different ones with decent volume and good services that we could trust. now that is turning to a heavily regulated exchange which will soon report all your volume to the tax man and they have your identity to do it too.
we should all expect tax evasion charges very soon.

in my dictionary blocking means that you won't able to use the site again like what poloniex did to Syria 5 months ago
Bittrex is only disabling accounts and asking for verification and sadly they aren't saying why , we don't know if it's gonna make the business legit or they are just trying to delay some withdrawals and let some funds stuck at their site

personally I had no balance at bittrex at yet they disabled my account , so the situation is kinda not clear

This is obviously bad news about Bittrex. I actually have an account there but have not moved any money into it or done any trading with it, which is a good thing because now that this has happened I can add this exchange to my "avoid" list and will not need to worry about being locked out or losing any money.

Meanwhile someone who has more experience with these exchangers than I do needs to compile a list of exchangers that are not into KYC/AML verification stuff (or blocking/limiting accounts). Or alternatively if no such exchangers exist, then list the maximum amounts that they allow to be traded/withdrawn without verification. A list of their available methods and payment processors for cash withdrawals would also be helpful.

I think accounts from specific countries, greater than a thousand dollars are being disabled for verification purpose. I don't think it should be stressful to provide the documents necessary for verification which include:
1. A picture of you, your international passport and a paper with Bitrex written bodly on it and the date you take the picture.
2. A photo of you.

Provide all these and your account will get verified in less than an hour.

I'm from a EU country and helt far less than $1000 at the time i got the notice i needed enhanced verification.
I was lucky since converting everything to LTC and then withdrawing straight away still seemed to work at that time.

The fact  enhanced verification is easy means nothing to me. Out of principle, i will always try to avoid sending anybody identifying information that can be stolen and abused later on. I'm not a criminal, i just don't trust an US private company with a picture of me holding an id card or utility bill.
As long as bittrex is asking for information that can be leaked/hacked/abused/... i will no longer use their services.

You will surprisily found that they are able to verify your identity and don't forget that give and produce fake identification document is illegal in every part of the world!!

this is very weird to block accounts with no specified reason. if those person try to cheat the system then of course you can block them but otherwise you cannot do it.

I agree with you, hopefully what they do can give good things to all of us and make bittrex users more secure from the perpetrators

Its really unusual to see that a big exchange banning thousands of accounts at the same time and even not answering to support tickets.It seems very suspicious.People are already aware due to Mt.gox incident.

People who have mostly complained about their accounts banned have said that their accounts are already verified and so,it could not be considered as a KYC procedure.

It seems that most affected countries due to this bittrex act were Syria, India, Iran,Turkey,Russia and pakistan.In iran alone,it seems that more than 3000 accounts have been banned without any reason.

The banning of users from bittrex's support slack seems to be the most alarming aspect.

I'm doing it right now. at least I'm trying to do it. but to install/setup all these separate wallets is a pain.

I am not going to tell you what to do but I am sure that's what most people are doing if they have the option.

That is why it is better to have your own hard wallet or paper wallet. Although you are going to end up using exchanges to trade or to send funds to your local bank it is very risky to have your funds in one exchange. It is better at least to divide them in different exchanges.

Let’s hope that situation gets better and you can regain full access to your funds.

there may be a specific reason. Bittrex may not be able to say what that reason is for legal reasons.

I agree with you.
The govern want know who is trading and how much, and this is the oposite that the essence of criptos, the anonymity.
In a near future, who wants to make business without identify yourself, will come to do in no regulation countrys, and will not have security about your money.
We need find a good exchange in deep web, I do not trust and do not want give all my infos to anyone of govern.

I have not been in the game long, but I use QuadrigaCX. They are a Canadian company.

If I am not mistaken you only need to be verified if you plan to Fund your account with Fiat currency (USD/CAD)

Not really a good idea because after sending those fake passports what if they ask for more supporting documents that you don't have to match the fake passports. You will just dig your own grave if you do that. Sad part about this issue is the remaining funds of those whos accounts are disabled are like being held hostage and give you no choice but to give in to what they are asking.

I don't have a balance at bittrex anymore, i'm fine with limits and all. but if they insists on asking id proof to use their service, i'm gonna have to say goodbye to them. we need a good dex and volume to completely abandon these exchanges!

I just checked. I was able to log in, buy, sell, and withdraw with no problems whatsoever. More than $1,000 in my account. Full disclosure: I'm in the US and have a verified account.

the action is a good way to call the bluff of suspicious account holders. if the holder has nothing to hide they can verify themselves. if the holder has used fake ID they will scatter.

i think Coin Telegraph should make more of an effort to get a response from the exchange before publishing. perhaps Bittrex should ask for a correction?

After reading some post, the title is misleading people as Bittrex didn't blocked account but suspended it for a while so that the member will verify this account. If this is true maybe Bittrex did this action as a requirement of the U.S. Government in order for them to continue their operation. Also it is good for both the trader and Bittrex as they will know that their users are legit traders.

Even if it is a bit late, they gave an official position on these recent events, but they still did not tell us what is the problem would be and not when they will solve it. Many users are still confused
why they have the account blocked rather than simply being notified about the checks on their accounts. I hope that Bittrex does not leave something to be desired in the medium as other exchanges
have been doing with their trash support.

I was shocked by this news so I immediately opened bittrex and login, but no problem, I can buy, sell and withdraw without any problems, I've experienced it, it's only temporarily for security reasons.

I do have about just 0.3 BTC there but still its going to be a waste if my account will be banned. I didn't provide any thing except the name  which they require but no photos and passports were sent to them as its not mandatory. Is there a chance of my account going to be suspended too?

So, no more anonymity... In time people won't have to use exchanges to sell for fiat, they'll only be buying it and withdrawing without verification, unless they block that to to stop people from abandoning fiat money.
As for bittrex's actions, the ship is sinking and people are jumping overboard with their pockets full of crypto ;) I hope polo doesn't do the same.

Bloody hell! These type of actions are just so unreasonable and so unfair! They should've at least adviced or announced this new policy that they have just implemented a few months earlier! Or at least made a message like : beware of our new policy blah blah blah every time someone trusts their funds to them! They should give proper customer services because they owe to the people what they are today!  They already knew about the upcoming fork way  ahead than anyone. They should've done this earlier when the damands for bitcoin isn't that huge yet.

Even I got an email asking me to verify my account. Luckily, I had moved most of the funds even before this fiasco began. Now I have only around $10 worth of altcoins in my Bittrex account. That said, I have to say that I was never a big fan of Bittrex. The primary reason is that they are based in the United States and they have cooperated with the US authorities in the past.

if I understand you, then probably there is a very high probability that all trading exchanges will take the same step? I think that nothing will be complicated if we want to enter our passport data for trade.

I think it depends on the stances of different governments. In Europe there's a trend to monitor the flow of money and information, so i'm sure European exchanges will be forced to verify users at some point. All the exchanges that I'm using are for now allowing me to use semi anonymous accounts as long as I stay under a certain withdraw limit, but some countries are crazy when it comes to invigilation. One of such countries is Russia, where an internet communicator was fined recently for not allowing the government to view their clients encrypted messages.

Ok so from the first post on this board until the last we have got an explanation as to what bittrex are doing. Its a strange move but i suppose they want to be seen as legal and not as scammers. This means we also have to comply with their extra terms.

Without a doubt they are trying to rip their users if they are blocking accounts without notice and am sure that the users there are not going to get their money in their account back if it's blocked.I suggest that the remaining users of that exchange transfer all their cyptos from there before they get blocked as well.

Actually I do not like this, because they do not issue warnings first and clean up all accounts that do not comply with the latest policy they have. In my opinion, bittrex is heavily pressured by the FBI and SEC over the stricter application of KYC so that allegations of direct farming accounts are blocked mercilessly.

Bittrex is just preparing themselves just in case bitcoin is going to be regulated and also to save their assess in case a transaction is made illegally.

To my knowledge they are located right inside Nevada. Somewhat closer in the reach of SEC & FBI than BTCe ever has been. And for sure the aftermath of that investigation touched the altcoin scene, where Bittrex has been a major player besides Cryptsy, Mintpal and similars. Last man standing at least, those others ended badly.

I think they will prevail. My account was disabled but I had been able to recover just by leaving some personal data, no uploads needed. I would not have uploaded them any documents, at all. Those would end up on the darknet for sale only.
Don't trusting them with lots of money now. That destruction of trust is unrecoverable. Never ever.

There, you can trade in your own wallet for many other crypts, and they want to put FIAT too.
If they can do that, by being direct in the wallet, I think they can have some advantage over the exchanges because the rules will be in the country that of who owns the wallet.
This solve the problem with an international account and a well-configured proxy.

I have a single account. I'm not from a country considered enemy of US (south east asia). And have no huge deposit and withdrawals. No proxies or VPNs Yet, my account is blocked.

I am basic verified and use my account occasionally to trade a bit on their platform, and thus far there hasn't been anything that resulted me to experience anything like people here are complaining about.

I am from Europe and have basic verified my account with actual (correct) information, which might be the reason that my account is exempt from everything that happens to other people's accounts.

Initially the system doesn't seem to actually check if the information is correct or potentially falsely inserted, so it is subject to abuse, which might be the reason people being basic verified have their accounts blocked.

That's just regarding basic verified accounts. Accounts with the highest verification level being blocked, likely have other reasons causing problems.

I am having the same issues.

As I registered my account last month, I deposited some of my funds while my verification was still in process.

For some reason the verification never seemed to come through correctly and now I have full access to the account but cannot withdraw any funds.

After having contacted the customer service and opening different request tickets, reaching out to their social media pages, still no answer..

Would definitely not recommend any new user to start trading on Bittrex, absurd customer service, shameless bunch of persons.

It looks like they are blocking all the accounts which are not fully verified.

so far i tweeted all the support members i knew and tweeted to the main account, giving them the same link as above, but i suspect, they will ignore it, as they did with tickets!

the way i see it, the way bittrex is behaving, the way they constantly block and release different wallets right before a big move in the price, the way they suddenly block over 300 account without reasoning, the way they ignore tickets, when the support members are not even online for over 10 days, all of these factors, indicate one single yet simple thing, bittrex is worst and is going in the direction of becoming the next scam exchange

there is one issue regarding the way they ask for passports, naturally, any website that asks for your license or anything else to confirm who you are, SHOULD remove it from their data base AFTER confirmation, but, THEY DON'T !!!! go figure the rest
Also, if you read the post above you, there were many people who HAD verified accounts using their passport that now have disabled accounts

Bittrex is officially scam

Bittrex cracking down on legacy accounts and converting them to new accounts.

Beware.

All this is obviously done for the sole purpose of having people verify themselves with personal information. Ultimately, the recent flood of complaints comes from governments making exchanges abide by their rules, and I am fairly sure that more (stricter) regulations are on the way. At some point every account will have to go through this verification process, and I am sure that even the basic verification step will not be sufficient anymore -- they want scans of your ID and a selfie, which I will never agree with to send in.

Isn't it AMAZING that all the exchanges are suddenly devoted to stealing your wealth -- that is, if they weren't doing this before the alleged "government crackdown" requiring adherence to US AMLs.

To me it sounds like these countless garbage "exchanges" aren't really serving the purpose of being exchanges, after all. They were created to get you interested in cryptos because they promised to make you wealthy. The cryptos were in turn created to transform money, in accordance with UN Agenda 21 planning (aka, Fondi central banker plans for all aspects of global society).

So, they transform the money, and you get rich but then the exchanges the Fondi incubated all decide to take your wealth. Money is still transformed, and the majority who participated are left without money. Sounds like a typical communist dialectic scheme to me. This has Fondi BS written all over it.

The "tell" here is that it would be extremely profitable for any of these exchanges to provide solid service with high integrity. Any of these exchanges could rise to be the next Goldman Sachs, overnight. But they all pass this opportunity by, despite that all of these exchanges have already had a taste of the extreme profits to be made. No... they pass this opportunity by so they can rip you off, instead. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Why don't folks reading this start their own exchange. How hard could that be? It has to be far more profitable than actually owning the coins, since you skim profits off every single trade if you want to. It's a free ticket to become a banker. How often does that opportunity arise?

You just need to upgrade your account level to "Enhanced", the way to do it is explained there, and you just need to follow it properly. Make a ticket there and tell you have enhanced your account, that way is enough to re-enable your account.

I was locked by the auto system as soon as I went upgrade from level 1 to level 3. That's why I do not understand.
