Title: Claiming Bitcoin Gold
Post by: shamzblueworld on October 17, 2017, 01:33:42 PM
So there will be a guide to claim bitcoin gold after the fork, but I have a question: Will we be able to claim or extract bitcoin gold from bitcoin cash too?
And secondly, will it be possible to extract bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold from the same bitcoin seeds?

No, you can. Because the fork occur on the bitcoin blockchain, not on the bitcoin cash blockchain. therefore, the only way you can claim bitcoin gold is to buy bitcoin

Bitcoin cash is a fork of bitcoin. Same thing will happen with bitcoin gold. So how many bitcoincash you have doesn't matter, since bitcoin gold will take the snapshot off the original bitcoin blockchain and not bitcoincash's. So.. no.

The precaution practices that are needed to get your Bitcoin Gold are the same as any other fork. Start by downloading the blockchain with Bitcoin Core while you still can (fork is October 25th so you can get your full node sync before that day easily, so no excuses later)

Once you have that setup, simply wait for the fork to happen, and be sure to be holding your coins on Bitcoin Core.

Then you simply move your coins to a new wallet, get Bitcoin Gold's client, sync it, you put then the empty wallet on the Bitcoin Gold folder and you have no accessed your Bitcoin Gold coins.

Notice that segwit2x fork is not that safe since it's an attack on the network, they will not add replay attack protection, meaning that you should wait for a couple of days before doing anything.

The blockchain that is being forked, is of BTC, so this will be as good as a copy of BTC with it's differences. That's same with BCC, a copy of BTC, that won't interfere in the upcoming fork that will be done this month probably. So, I believe that you will have the same amount  of BTC, in BTC Gold. And well, before claiming BTC gold always be sure that its a legit way, or else you could end up losing everything just because of BTC gold.

Does bitcoingold have good potential?
I think the potential for free coins for now is not good enough, as investors are better off buying coins at ICO, with clear project and mission vision.
Unless there are people who make better coins than bitcoin or ethereum might be

the potential can be huge, it all depends on how much this coin will become popular .. now in our time anything can happen

Ok, so most posters already answered the question on the chain/fork that would give you FREE Bitcoin gold. {BTC chain}

I want to answer your second question. " will it be possible to extract bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold from the same bitcoin

seeds.
" <--- Your Bitcoin Gold will be extracted from the BTC chain, but you will have to wait for a compatible wallet to

do that. I have not seen any wallet that supports Bitcoin Gold and also no exchange that supports it, so you will not be able to

sell it, just after the fork.  ???

Many answers here are either straightforward wrong or overly and unnecessarily complicated. The only thing that you really need in order to have access to your bitcoin gold coins is to hold your bitcoin private keys. Since the bitcoin gold blockchain will be replicated from the bitcoin blockchain your bitcoin private keys will become also your bitcoin gold private keys.

That's it. You don't have to "download the blockchain with Bitcoin Core while you still can" (what the fuck does the "while you still can" part even mean? you can always do that, anytime), you don't have to "move your coins to a new wallet" or any other bullshit. Once bitcoin gold is live you just run the bitcoin gold wallet software and import your private keys in there (or just re-use your wallet.dat if you were using bitcoin core on the original blockchain).

And of course there is "a compatible wallet" for bitcoin gold. What the fuck do you think the bitcoin gold guys are working on the whole time, Einstein?

But the question still remains, suppose I have not extracted bitcoin cash yet from my bitcoins. And now after this fork, I want to extract both bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold separately from the bitcoin seeds. Will it be possible?
Of course on their different wallets, but using the same keyds.

You don't "extract" anything from anything and no, the question doesn't remain, you just don't understand. Learn what is bitcoin and how it actually works, what is blockchain and how it actually works and what is a fork and how it actually works and you will understand.

Here is a very good article: https://bitcointechtalk.com/bitcoin-gold-what-you-need-to-know-8b3e645be409

My understanding: run a full a node on your machine, send some Bitcoin Gold to the address you control.

I have a question that concerning the BitcoinGold and outcome of the forking. If I hold Bitcoin in Bittrex can I still benefit or Is it only if my Bitcoin is being held in Blockchain info?

Nope, BTG is a fork of Bitcoin, and copies Bitcoin's UTXO set. So only BTC holders get BTG to their addresses. BCH is unrelated as far as Bitcoin Gold goes. BTG will be credited to addresses holding BTC -- that's it.

This actually raises an interesting theory: forks cannibalize each other. If BCH holders want BTG, they need to sell BCH. If BCH holders want B2X coins in the November fork, they need to sell BCH. Bitcoin holders, on the other hand, get coins in all the forks, and can sell those free coins at their convenience. So it's definitely extra incentive to hold BTC right now, even in the face of these supposed fork threats.

this is because everyone forks bitcoin not other coins. in case some day they forked BCH, then BCH holders will be rewarded with the airdrops.
but nobody will ever do that because the reasons why anybody forks bitcoin like this is to use the popularity of bitcoin and use its name to advertise their "fork" and if they use any other chain, they will be restricting their target audience.
and other altcoins are usually too small to fork like this, forking can mean killing the coin even since the hashrate mining that particular altcoin can switch 100% to another fork since it is small.

That is precisely why you must have a full Bitcoin Core node running by the time any fork comes, because you know that whoever is making a fork, first thing they are going to do is to rip off Bitcoin Core and put their name on it, this means that if you are running a Bitcoin Core, every single time the forked coins will be accessible to you. You will have the Bitcoin Core equivalent of the fork ready at the moment the fork happens (in this case, "Bitcoin Gold Core" or whatever they call it, in Bitcoin Cash they called it "Bitcoin ABC", in segwit2x they will call "btc1").

So get your node ready for October 25th and you will not be taking a gamble.

Yes, remember these are different chains and not part of the original BTC anymore. Best way I can explain it is as follows :

You have a single road {BTC} ... it gets to a point where a road split to the left {Bitcoin Cash}.. but the original road still continues

and after a while the road split again to the right {Bitcoin Gold} ...every time the split happens, you get coins for that road at the

moment it splits. So the road to the left and the right.. does not influence the original road... ???

I think koinix one Indian exchange will support this.

they announced this in their blog.

As the very first poster said with regards to getting Bitcoin Gold from Bitcoin Cash, seeing as this is a fork of Bitcoin and not BCH, there will be no way to get double your Bitcoin Gold in this manner.

As for the second question, as far as I know it should be possible, seeing as they take a snapshot of the network at a specific time, therefore theoretically if you have BTC in the same address during both forks you should be able to get both from the same seeds, although I am not an expert about this - so take my word with a grain of salt and do your proper research.

As I know there are no announcement from any exchange or wallet about support Bitcoin Gold until now so I think we still need to wait much longer to know which one will support the upcoming hard fork. Beside, we only can claim Bitcoin Gold from Bitcoin not Bitcoin Cash. I think we need to wait few more days to know which wallet or exchange will support Bitcoin Gold.
