there lot of newbie asking how to get safe in mew or what kind of safty measure are we want to get in the mew using

this are the method i use in when i use

> dont give you private key to others

>  bookmark the mew site

> dont login the mew using others url /links

> dont save your public and private key in same notepad or doc

> most of them mistake add there private key for the bounty and hacked


follow that methods you can save

there are lot of spam links they said add 2 step verification like that don click those link

It is hard to be safe with MyEtherWallet.com if you creating keys when you are online. If you are not careful the search engine will lead you to sites like MyEtherEUNwallet.com. which can fool you anytime of the day.You must always be offline when generating key wallet pairs.

I won't recommend anyone to use MEW if you are holding only ETH there. Instead try blockchain online wallet. They are pretty old in this business of providing wallet service to the crypto community and recently opened up for ETH as well. MEW can be used only for tokens. If you are not an investor in token ICOs and just earn from various bounty campaigns, the NEW is a good choice because you are most likely to see that tokens as soon as it is listed in EtherDelta exchange. But for holding proper ETH, don't go NEW as the security feature is not impressive. I am only using NEW for token holding and related transactions, but not for original ETH.

Most people who use this wallet are get hacking because they do not see the url details of the websites they visit. MEW site has many copies so be careful if you want to visit it. It could be your wallet data can be recorded.

maybe i want to add something here. usually after the ico is finished, every participants has been receive their token into myetherwallet and then its up to them to still keep in that wallet or move the tokens into exchanges. the best thing that you can do is you need to move the tokens into other wallet or exchanges if the tokens is get listed in the exchanges and leave your myetherwallet empty. usually the tokens is listed on etherdelta or hitbtc and i am prefer with hitbtc because for me, etheredelta is too confusing. don't keep your token especially your ethereum balance into myetherwallet.

Yes, Nice suggestion, although at the beginning of my career I don't know what to do with my tokens just sitting on MEW and afraid that someone will stole if from me.  :). I just safely bookmarked MEW website on my end and I always double check the URL still. Everyone of us should be really careful and need to protect our money from phishing sites.


Agreed. ETH should be place on a more secure wallet and not on MEW. There are wallets that allow you to hold multi coins so its very easy to get one and secure your ETH together with your bitcoins. Last time I check though, I still have some dust tokens that needed to be deposited to Hitbtc.  ;D

Nice info you got there but I dont think they will work all the time. About the bookmarking of myetherwallet site, it is okay as it is but the thing about saving your public and private key in the same notepad or document, it is much better if you will just memorize it or write that on a paper that is always inside the wallet you use daily rather than save it somewhere. Also, the registering of private keys on bounties is something caused by the user itself so I think it should not be included.

I agree and your suggestion is very good. I also kept a private key and backed up all my wallet in a book, may sound funny, but I believe it's a very safe thing.

Most people hold MEW and make use of it cause of ERC20 tokens and that is the only way you can access it anyway unless you move your tokens to an exchange. So once this account is compromised, not just your ETH but all your assets in tokens you have been holding gets compromised too.

I honestly do not like the security features for MEW but you just have to be very careful since that is the only thing available right now but I really hope something better can come up later on.

They don't save any info and keys, the site is secure.
I don't see much wrong with it, obviously there are people who want 2fa and such which is understandable. But you can go to blockchain.info for that.

To be safe in myetherwallet(MEW), you should be careful on the site of this wallet because there are lots of fake sites called phising sites. You can know it by observing the spelling of "myetherwallet" because some phising sites misspelled it like myethnerwallet, they put "N" to make it ETHNER instead of ETHER. Just observe every site you want to login especially when it comes to your wallet, cause some phising sites. ake their sites almost the samewith the original site to complicate yiu and lead you to be a victim of scamming. Don't just login your private key on the site you first searched, check it 5 times or more just to make sure it is true and not fake for your wallet's safetiness.

yes we must bookmark this site.i saw lot of spam site and spam links.and never clicked and login always use the bookmark link  .and all the extra ETH send to my wallet.and keep the ICO/bounty token in it

I believe that is the main reason you should confirm the exact site and bookmark it. You cannot blame google if you cannot confirm things for yourself, since most of this scammers go as far as placing ads on google to target users. Find the official site just like OP said, bookmark it and make use of only that link. Be careful of the links you receive on your email too.

Myetherwallet is safe but the chance of being hacked by fake MEW websites are very high. Double check before you want to entry private key. Don't click any link on slack.

I first started getting tokens on my MEW, but now it's important for me to understand what to do next :) Step by step. Perhaps someone can provide a link to step-by-step advice on moving tokens on exchanges from MEW, selling them, where to get the ETH from selling tokens, etc. I would be very grateful for such information.

I do appreciate the effort which is somehow useful among newbies but come to think off those are just really a common sense thing to do for you to protect your own MEW. It would really be a normal thing that those private keys are the most important to access such wallet.Once it would be compromised then chance of getting hacked is 100% which means storing it on the most secure we do think off. Always bookmark the legit site link and even don't stored up your keys on cloud.In my case I do put it on Flashdrive on all of my keys together with other wallets.

do not log in many devices, also wifi network connection disembarang place, can make your device hacked,
but now more often is when registering a bounty we entered incorrectly, instead of the wallet address instead of entering a private key, and do not publish your wallet address on your profile, just need to be careful and do not rush :)

you have to open your device more carefully once you have to open like that then you want to face more problems like few people get in to hacked it is. your private keys also keep secure because few people  try to hack to your private keys and passwords. so you have to maintain some security to your wallet. myether wallet is   more secure but it has more accounts so for that reason few times it may hacked so that you have to deal with this carefully.

Newbies as usual make mistakes on the tips you have mentioned in this thread and get scammed for their ethereum.
I have visited many threads before where newbies complaining about loss of their ether.
While some get hacked by visiting urls received in their emails which are actually not original links to your ether wallet.
It is compulsory to bookmark waklet link and to revise page address before submitting private keys

I cant still get why there are still people who do easily fall out on giving their private keys or being phished. By just looking at the link myetherwallet.com then you can easily memorize those words on which anytime you do logged in on the wallet you can able to see the difference.The only thing needed for us not to get hacked is be aware and be alert on the things you do encounter.

Yes, users got hack their myetherwallet because of the reasons they mistakenly input the private key instead of ether address. And, that is why security is necessary everytime doing transaction in myetherwallet .

What op said in his post is correct and newbies should always remember that and not only on etherdelta but in every accounts that they have where they have their tokens or btc. And also for those local members, better translate everything than be sorry.

This very effective,Well I am using this method for a long time now, I also save a my private key on facebook for back up
but i deleted 5 digits and memorize it, so even my facebook account got hack they still dont know my private key, I also agree that you shouldn't save both of your private key and eth address on one doc/notepad. so there will be no mistake on entering private key. Use the methods for sure your MEW is safe.

Do not open unwanted links ain yoir email. now days People Stole aur address from the spreadsheet and spam our email.

Always use Metamask google chrome Plugin to Be safe and while login at myetherwallet.

Ignore some Ico who ask to visit site to transfer the funds.

Recently Eterum Zero come with similar option

Great point that needed to follow so that your wallet will not be hack by those damn phisers/hackers but I want to add some things that needed to avoid and that is those Sites who's covering up with good promotions and asking for private key for claiming and other than that is downloading some unknown links which can lead you to be hack due to malware placed.

Now I’m interested to try myetherwallet and thanks for this tip,, it will help a lot for a new users to enhance they’re knowledge about taking security of its wallet seriously.. Bookmarking the right site would be mandatory as phising sites are normally have the same appearance to the original ones.. I will surely ask for assistance for any technical issue that I will encounter to those using this wallet for long time..

I do not see any users of MEW wallet reported about they met issue using this wallet. If you keep using the correct as myetherwallet.com all the time you would get anyone steal your fund dude. Even when you create the wallet itself they will show the notify the security measures what are all you do for saving the fund MEW wallet.
Many people using this wallet to have the funds of multiple cryptos and good for all erc20 tokens too.

MEW is a good wallet for bounty hunters,  cause, there, all your tokens can be seen immediately they are distributed. I see it as the best wallet for ICOs. And at most ICOs, they recommend it for all their participants.
Die to the warnings they always give to its users, I will say it's not safe for a large amount of ETH.

Correct it is possible to hack but it is also no possible to hack, because hackers sometimes are rely to the personal information of the users. So if you cannot discuss any important information of you, there's no reasons to worries. But if the system of the wallets are hacked trust to will falling down so fast, because more people will gonna be affected.

mew is a good wallet to save your tokens. if you participate the bounty you should make this wallet because most of bounty program is using the token when it was distributed. but we should protect our mew account. the first rule on crypto currency is "dont disclose your private key to anyone. always check the url of website well.

Thank you for sharing this one, even though you did not share your private keys, and youre using private keys to access it, there are still chances that it will be hacked when MEW is hacked,the hacker can recover your private keys there, it is prefer to using metamaks or Hardware Ledger to be less vulnerable in hacking these days.

When I find out that some people are adding there private keys to baunty application I told my friend that it is not possible and when we were review some one post we discovered that he posted his private key intead of myetherwallet address! Many are really making this mistakes and scammers are taking this advantage.

To be safe when using the Myetherwallet wallet, you need to save the JSON file to your computer and should store cryptos in offline hardware storage because if the online storage is effortless to lose cryptos if the website of Myetherwallet is attacked by hackers. Don't disclose to others about Private Key as well as e-wallet password.

Don't give your private key to others. And there's a safety reminders when you visit the site. So just follow all the tips/safety reminders there and you will know that you are safe.

this is what we need to make our account in mew safe so we can keep the tokens inside mew is not getting hacked by another people. besides that, we need to have some places to save the private keys and don't tell to other people. I think it is better to send the tokens to the market after the tokens release on the market so we can prepare to sell than we only keep it in the mew account.

Thanks for this,it is good to read and may be very helpful for the newbies and bounty hunters.But I want to add one more point to your checklist that is keep you system offline when it is not needed then it help to prevent us from the phishing links.

Myether is one of the safest altcoin wallet and if you want to maintain that, you cannot discuss any personal information of yours. Especially if your password are connected to your personal life, otherwise you can just regularly change your password. For example monthly or quarterly, to prevent hacking of account.

I think the two most important factors to be safe with MEW are:

- Bookmarking the site

- Use MetaMask/JSON files instead of private keys.

This is also valid for EtherDelta.

Newbie players in this market are a lot lazy than the previous generation of crypto traders, they even put some warning in MEW site but still there are fuds that mew is not safe lol  :D
please people learn to read some warnings and instruction, mew itself is a safe wallet unless you share your keys.

I agree that is the best way to secured myetherwallet accounts, changing of password. Because if you regularly change your password in wallet its hard for hacker or intruders to guess your password in wallet. Also don't put large amount to the wallet, because if you hanging large amount in the wallet it will catch the eye of the intruders

changing passwords dont play a major thing in mew because passwords isnt the case or reason on why some users have been hacked. Instead  there will be other reason such as theyve been phished or they visited a clon faked site of mew  and also theyve been hacked because they accidentaly share thier private keys while filling up some forms, etc.. Overall the key to avoid these problems is to be more wise and aware on whatever you do online.

To secure trading in the delta,

create new account contract address in delta,

do not import main account to delta

if want to sell token, from main walet  sent to walet delta,

after finished sell direct , WD to Main walet ...

this way is rather expensive for his FEE.

Just secure you private keys, do not click unfamiliar link and never give your private keys to anyone, by following this tips your wallet is safe ,no one can hack or steal your coins.

your way is good but it takes more time and a bit complicated plus it also cost more fees , therfor i still prefer the old way and most popular way method for trading in etherdelta. you wont also be hacked in etherdelta even if you import your private keys as long as you visited the correct official website and not the phony or cloned ones. that is why i suggest , much better if you bookmarked the site ( etherdelta and myetherwallet ) to avoid getting hacked and phished.

This is what im doing since from the hacking incident on where i do make use of another new generated wallet on the etherdelta site itself and do send all of my coins into that wallet rather than on using my own main wallet. It would really cost you some fees but it doesnt matter as long your main wallet is on safe state then it should be fine. Be wary than sorry if someone do hacked you because of such disclosure of your keys.
