I have a few questions and thoughts that you could perhaps elaborate on..

1.
Who are going to write your code?  Looking at your team, I see no one labelled as developer. In my world, the developers and software engineers are perhaps the most critical resources.

2.
If I understand your concept correctly, the training data is to be produced by advanced video rendering, which is well suited to GPUs. There is also a huge amount of rendering power distributed in the mining community just as you say. However, the mining rigs are mostly ill suited for such workloads since rendering requires considerable bandwidth between computer and GPU. Today, the typical mining setups use cheap USB bandwidth between CPU and GPU. Any rendering benchmark will show this being detrimental to performance.

Sure, rigs can be rebuilt but it's very hard to fit more than 3 or 4 GPUs with proper PCIe bandwidth. Only higher end systems will work well and the mining rigs mostly use the cheapest possible hardware (except for the GPUs). Lack of CPU and memory resources may also be a bottleneck depending on how the code is written. So, if you are serious about tapping into the distributed GPU resources, you need to explain the requirements so the community can adapt in time.

3.
Massive amount of images (or perhaps even video) hints at massive amounts of data. Can you present any calculations on needed internet bandwidth and storage requirements for this. It looks like you have some experimental projects to draw experience from?


5. The distributed computing part of the platform looks a lot like it would match the BOINC architecture. (I'm sure you know of BOINC).
    Why not just piggy back on BOINC and get immediate access to an open platform for distributed computing tailored to sending compute jobs to a large number of users (with GPUs).   BOINC handles all those issues with getting back scientifically correct data, users who don't complete their work packages etc.
    I noticed they even have a crypto currency these days meant for rewarding the contributors on a voluntary bases.

Personally, I have been waiting since the middle of the 90:ies for someone to come up with a business concept for truly distributed computing. It must be worth something not having to build large datacenters for compute workloads for those cases where you don't need short latencies. BOINC evolved from SETI@home and is now ground breaking and record setting. However there is no reward for contributors and the previously "free" computing power is not at all free any longer with the power hungry hardware we have today.

In our case we don’t need a lot of bandwidth. Typically synthetic data images do not require “Hollywood”
level rendering. In our experiments the mining hardware was shown to be  more than sufficient even outperforming
similar setups on Amazon by a hefty margin.

It is true that not every system will be a fit, but we are getting around this issue with some clever software engineered
into our nodes. As our platform matures and goes toward the first release in Q1 of 2018 we will be releasing the specs to the community.

Now we are working out the use cases with couple of friendly miner farms (each one has several thousand mining rigs of
all kinds). We want to be disciplined about what we release to the community. A lot of these problems might not apply
depending on how we engineer the node.

For example one scheme involves bundling the data generation and model training tasks in the node. This way once data
example is generated the network will run a learning epoch on it and then the data piece will be destroyed. Then next one
will be produced and epoch will run. This gets around the need to store massive amounts of data (but slows down learning
speeds -- mitigated by more nodes running the process).


We are absolutely looking at BOINC and GridCoin, Golem and others. Our goal is to cast our web of nodes as wide as possible.
We would also be writing containers for Amazon, Google Cloud and Azure.

What’s immediately apparent though is that our platform customers will derive greater immediate economic value
from mining farms, so this is a priority for now.

What happens if you don't raise 60,000 ETH ? From 10,000 ETH to 60,000 ETH is a long way and there is nothing in between these 2 mentioned in the whitepaper.

One question for Neuromation team is regarding the blockchain AI competitors: What is your opinion about DeepBrain Chain (DBC) ? They've just finished their ICO, and they look quite "strong" competition IMO.

Seems to be some sort of issue accepting ETH payments.  Still going back and forth with technical support about an ETH transfer which is not showing up in the transactions section even though the support team says that it's been processed and reflected.

This is concerning as a simple ETH transfer with over 300 confirmations to the correct address should be easy to remedy.

How do you compare Neuromation to Deep Brain Chain? The latter is getting much attention recently.

But i am honestly VERY DISSAPOINTED with the behaviour towards their supporters.. i meant ALL translators like me. How dare a project like Neuromation.. so great, sublime and succesfull,, pay 70$ (in ETH.. although i was very interested in NEURO tokens) for the big task of translating the whole ANN? It took me 2 Days of non stop work, ..I expected at least that losing my time with that, Neuromation would count on me for whitepaper translation, so i could have some real profit.. This was BY FAR the worst paid job i have found in cryptoworld... In fact the most humblest project i have worked for in the recent past, paid me 2 times this quantity for a third of the job.
HOnestly, raising 60M US$ and paying 70$ for so much work.. i really have no words to describe how it feels..mmm.. s Pyramids thousands years ago, should have been projed by Neuromatio! In fact it sounds to typical egyptian name. Ha ha ha... slavery made people and companies rich during centuries.....i hope and wish it crash hard and sink, honestly i dont care, as i didnt got any NEURO tokens as bounty for my had slavery type job.

I don't have any plans to sell any time soon, but I don't want Neuromation to be seen as Deep Brain Chain's little brother (from another mother  :D ) Please see the case Golem vs Sonm, where Sonm is closer from a development point to release in production but it has a x4, x5 smaller market cap.

We have 2 novelties which are completely different from any other AI projects:

1. The synthetic data generation on demand and synthetic data-set library for sale with the models of neural networks already pre-trained on synthetic data

Well... this is what happened: I was asked to perform a task for 50$, when i was finish, Neuromation team asked me to do the "second half" they had forgotten to mention for another 20$ (total amount, 70$... by the way... the smallest quantity by far received for a work in cryotoworld.. many more humble project paid much more for less work)... well.. this second part took around 3 hours,.. second part around 18 hours. I assumed the responsability to finish the work, as  i am a reputable and serious worker who always do his best.. it was not professional to leave it as it was. And more than this, i  expected to get also later whitepaper to be translated by me in order to get a serious bouny reward. There was not explicit agreement regarding this, but i mentioned it few times. You can think whatever you want.. i have also my own opinion regarding my experience.. and i am not doing anything more that being honest and tell the people how i feel: slave, scammed. I find a shame that a project that raise 60$ millionspays that ridiculous amount ( a 0,00001166% of raised) for that much work to a worker (so many millions are reserved for development? Dont think so... just someone there wants to be rich.. but just for himself and dont care about the rest of us). You probable are more lucky than me. Maybe you are a good friend of someone of the team.. congratulations! :)

Can a Neural Network Read Your Mind?

or Fitting Pictures to Models

Researchers from the ATR Computational Neuroscience Labs at Kyoto and Kyoto University have recently made the news. Their paper, entitled “Deep image reconstruction from human brain activity”, basically claims to have developed a machine learning model that can read your mind, with sample reconstructions shown in the picture above. To understand what they mean and whether we should all be thinking only happy thoughts now, we need to start with a brief background.

How to Read the Minds of Deep Neural Networks
A big problem with neural networks has always been their opacity: while we can see the final results, it is very hard to understand what exactly is going on inside a neural network. This is a problem for all architectures, but let us now concentrate on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) used for image processing.

Very roughly speaking, CNNs are multilayer (deep) neural networks where each layer processes the image in small windows, extracting local features. Gradually, layer by layer, local features become global, being able to draw their inputs from a larger and larger portion of the original image. Here is how it works in a very simple CNN (picture taken from this tutorial, which I recommend to read in full):

In the end, after several (sometimes several hundred) layers we get global features that “look at” the whole original image, and they combine in some ways to get us the class labels (recognize whether it is a dog, cat, or a boat). But how do we understand what these features actually do? Can we interpret them?

RE: Listings

Neuromation’s goal is the creation of the world’s leading platform for the purchase and sale of core AI componentry: Neural Network Models, Labeled Datasets and Distributed Computing Power.

Listing of the NTK on major exchanges is a fundamental necessity for building the Neuromation marketplace Platform, insofar as it creates the NTK liquidity necessary for buyers and sellers to seamlessly transact on the Platform.

Neuromation is in negotiations with multiple large exchanges to list the NTK. Listings are expected to come shortly. This is completely in line with our Road Map, and with our strategy to build steady, organic appreciation in value of the business.

We are well aware of common strategies of other companies to rush into listings on any and all exchanges, and subsequent ‘doping’ of their tokens to achieve short-term price spikes. The data shows that these activities are highly dangerous to the health of those companies and to their token holders.

We appreciate the support of the community in listings on Tidex, Idex and Yobit. There is much, much more in the pipeline.

NeuroNuggets: Style Transfer

In the fourth installment of the NeuroNuggets series, we continue our study of basic problems in computer vision. We remind that in the NeuroNuggets series, we discuss the demos available on the recently released NeuroPlatform, concentrating not so much on the demos themselves but rather on the ideas behind each deep learning model.
