Title: The Rig sees radeon 290 graphics cards instead of r9 390. why?
Post by: elissa on October 18, 2017, 10:09:57 AM
Hello guys.

A strange thing is happening.
I've put my R9 390 Nitro 8 GB graphics cards on my rig and I've tried to mine.

The strange thing is that claymore sees different cards...
It sees Radeon 290 3 GB instead of R9 390 Nitro 8 GB and after that an error appears and it stops.
I have reinstalled the windows, the AMD driver but the same error appears. why?

Try to install GPU-z and check what type of GPU that has been detected by your system, normally the miner see's what your system's GPU registered.

What miner are you using? And what does windows say in it's device manager? If in windows it says 390, then your miner is messing up. If windows says 290, then you've mistaken a 390 for a 290.

You need AMD Drivers version 15.12
Latest versions of drivers may glitch on old cards

Claymore might be getting confused since the R9 390 used the SAME GPU chip as the R9 290 did (with changes to the BIOS and slightly faster RAM).

If you are using a driver version older than 15.12 though, definitely upgrade to that version - it DID fix some issues.

16.9.x and 16.10.x support most R9 models, specifically including the R9 290 and 390 (but I think those driver versions do NOT support the Tahiti-based cards like the R9 280x or HD 7970).

Guys, it doesn't work. I have reinstalled windows and amd display driver. When I started mining it showed me the right graphics card. Radeon r9 390, 8gb. After I have restarted and installed msi after burner, it is showing me r9 290 again.
I can't understand where is the problem. Can it be because of msi, ram (2gb) or smth else?
I have tested both my graphics cards and the same result...

Are You using the stock BIOS or is it modded? My R9 380 "became" R9 290 after I tried flashing its original BIOS. But it stayed so only for a short time (showed me doing 28Mh/s and then everything turned back to normal).

I am using stock bios. It is very strange. It was recognized as a r9 390 and after restart as a r9 290. My friend told me that it is because of RAM (2gb). I don't want to buy another one if I am not sure about that.

But then there is the important question - IS THE CARD WORKING?

Miss-ID isn't all that critical if the card is doing the job.

If you use the older drivers (before 390 was released) it will show up as a r9 290.

Same with any of the other cards like the 370,380, etc.

I checked it on a rig and it is working
