I thought about purchasing one but that long of a wait is the deal breaker for me. By the time you receive it the difficulty will be so high that it would take over a year to pay for itself.

Obviously they are mining with it -- no doubt. Otherwise they would just break even after all the refunds. The only way they can make profit off what they're doing is to put your loan to work.
