I've found that it's easiest to get a developer and myself on the same page when we sit face to face and really hammer out the details rather than going back and forth via internet.

What I mean is that they act as an escrow and only release the coins when both part are pleased. Also it will be better if you post your job details in xbtfreelancer.com and workingforbitcoins.com. The latter is a new site but there also you can find many developers suitable for your job. Hope this may help you to find a developer for your project.
