Bitcoin vs Ethereum. Yes its true. Ethereum has all possibilities to compete with Bitcoin and if you can see it has almost 20+% of the marketcap share while bitcoin reduced to 50% from 80% over the past 2 years. Ethereum occupied market cap share what bitcoin earlier had . Also there are many tokens generating on the ethereum platform. These all shows the possibilities of ethereum as the toughest competent to bitcoin for sharing the marketcap.
So.Bitcoin vs Ethereum is my answer. But in few years I expect Bitcoin vs Ethereum vs Electroneum

Haha I think no one. Maybe in a few years will be something but not right now  :)
in present time bitcoin is the king of all and i am sure that even in future bitcoin will remain as number one crypto currency of the world. i do not think that in near future any other crypto currency can compete with bitcoin. Because bitcoin is still the most popular, trusted and reliable currency of the world. Bitcoin is even going to compete with fiat currency in future like USD etc.

I think Ethereum is no.1 contenter of Bitcoin. . Ethereum is another cryptocurrency related project focused on Smart Contracts, while Bitcoin has long been dominant in the Crypto world. You can use Ethereum Wallet which allows you to create and use smart contract just like ICO's. so this 2 are the best valuable crypto so far.

Those are products we're talking about a currency.
There is no real dollar versus euro competition except for people betting on them. Both sides want their currency to be lower to boos exports and limit imports.

And besides that there is no rule that we must have competition in every field.

Market cap does not mean anything...
There is one store accepting eth for every thousand that is accepting bitcoins.
Most of the people that have heard of crypto believe bitcoin is the only cryptocoin out there.
Inflated market cap with a premined 60 million out of 90 is not relevant.

In term of store of value, no other coin or real-world asset can compete with bitcoin at this point of time. However, it certainly doesn't mean that it will not be possible in future as well. As of now ETH looks like the closest contender of bitcoin in terms of market cap. Even though the difference is huge, but the second highest market cap belongs to ETH only. Also ETH is technologically superior that bitcoin. While bitcoin transaction takes about 30 minutes to confirm, ETH offers near instant transactions. That is the reason why ETH has become the number one choice for the arbitragers. So my answer is ETH which can compete with bitcoin in future.

Ethereum looks like the most reliable competitor of bitcoin, BTC against ETH sounds pretty good too, but they are very different from each other, just see that the price of bitcoin is over $5700 right now, and ethereum is below $300, so one btc equals to 18 eth aproximately.
But they have very different technologies, they are almost the opposite and this is what they makes them the perfect competitors in the crypto market, and LTC against XMR too.

I guess no one can compete bitcoin right now because of the huge number of people join with it. There are several investors put up their money to grow and be circulated so there's no competitors that are involve but there are many speculators or scammers who are talking and spreading trash information about bitcoin. It is still be no clue if who are they to bring the name of bitcoin down. Competition is not needed with bitcoin but just helping it to grow is what we aim for and for the future of our economy.

I think other POS coins are also possible. Because the core of the virtual currency ecosystem is to be centralized, the POW mechanism is getting more and more concentrated. Resources are in big mines and early investors

We can't deny that bitcoin is very powerful and very competitive in the blockchain. And there is no possibilities that other altcoins will compete this because bitcoin have rooted already in the heart of many investors and users.

There will come a time that another coin will be created that will somehow
compete with the coin. Most probably one of this coin feature will be it is being
supported by governments before its released.

Right know even people don't really understand how it work most people are familiar with bitcoin no with other coin. ethereum can't be compared with bitcoin, because bitcoin is an bitcoin and ether is an altcoin :D . i know some people said ether is not an altcoin, but every coin which realesed after bitcoin is called altcoin. that's how it work.
but if i really have to make a list of digital currency which can be campared with bitcoin, im gonna put ethereum on number 1.

I would say state-backed currencies could give Bitcoin a run for its money. I don't mean that they're going to compete in every aspect, obviously, because the state-backed currencies are for sure going to be decentralized, and I don't think they'll be anonymous. As a currency for daily transactions, however, they may fare better. The general population is more likely to trust them, and vendors in that particular country are more likely to accept them. They're going to be designed in such a way where transactions are confirmed near instantly for point of sale transactions, and they might come with little to no transaction fees. They're going to stand in the way of Bitcoin mass adoption in this respect.

Bitcoin is still going to be a much better investment though, as it's independent of specific countries' economy.

Altcoins like desh, ltc or eth can compete only with each other they are no rivals for Bitcoin. The only formidable opponent for Bitcoin is curent monerary system banks and governments. So I think Bitcoin vs Banks

I think Bitcoin vs. Ethereum. The ethreum has a good platform and we know that it is popular and the second highest volume in the market and that is why she eth the opponent Bitcoins when the weather. Let's see for next few years. We do not know what's happening. Perhaps one day there are new Altcoins to come out and the platform is really good too and is fast for investors and people to enjoy

IMO there are new coins with their own blockchain can copmete with bitcoin. I expect mass adoption in blockchain tecnology in 2018. If everything goes well things will change drastically and banks will try to take advantage of blockchain.

every time ethereum price is dropping i see people create new accounts on bitcointalk and start saying it is a good investment and can compete with bitcoin, blah blah! i see 4 brand new accounts answering the same as fast as OP's fingers allowed him to ;)

guys instead of bag holding, dump that shit when it was on top of the bubble and buy back before its next pump starts. these desperate attempts to "advertise" it. it won't change a thing.

p.s. ETH is not a currency to even begin to compete with bitcoin!

Title: Re: Who do you think will compete with Bitcoin?

There will not be any such competition. Each coin has it's own value along with its feature. They are going to run side by side without causing any issue. Do know that this isn't any kind of competition, rather than preference based on features. But if we still do consider each coins as a contestant, bitcoin will always be leading on the top. Has its own advantage since its the first crypto to be developed.

Bitcoin and Ethereum actually use a system called BlockChain. In this Block Chain system, data recording and transactions are performed on multiple servers that are connected to each other. That way, if there is one server that is broken, the data can still be accessed on another server.
The development of Etherium is still in its early stages, marked by their first full version of the newly launched end of February 2016 ago. But with the potential possessed by Ethereum, some big companies have tried to use it.

By 2015, IBM is working with Samsung to create an Internet of Things system called ADEPT. In it, IBM applies the concept of Smart Contract from Etherium.

"Bitcoin is still the main one, but Ethereum is definitely the second after Bitcoin,"

There is no coin can challenge bitcoin right now as you can see in the market value the difference of the huge value gap between bitcoin and altcoins that even you combined all of the altcoins still it cannot compete to the bitcoin. Even the gold value was overcome by the bitcoin into the top and that is why lot of alcoin are now existing because they want to follow the path of bitcoin but i think it is very difficult task for them but maybe if they will try to group together and apply the pump and dump way.

Bitcoin VS ethereum due to ethereum has large of capitalization market numbers two after the bitcoin https://coinmarketcap.com/
Ethereum also has other innovation be offered than just digital currency more than it, ethereum has smart contract on its platform many projects be built on there for example many ICOs projects on ethereum's platform, i think it is the stronger competitor of bitcoin than another altcoins.

Ethereum have been second to bitcoin and I think it's safe to assume they are the best rival of each other. Bitcoin had the advantage of being the first to develop but if given time and chance eth will be able to get neck and neck with bitcoin. But still, who knows, maybe there is new crypto being develop at this moment who might rival bith btc and eth. We'll see about that in the future. Right now all we can do is assume.

I don't think that there is something or someone who will compete with bitcoin because even there will be a competition for bitcoin then it will not be enough to eliminate bitcoin and replace bitcoin from being the top 1 cryptocurrency in the crypto market. Bitcoin will become stronger and better and i don't think that competition will weaken bitcoin.

Its definitely not ETHEREUM because they have different crowds from each other. Technically, it could have been BITCOIN CASH because they practically use the same standard mining rig. Once the community decided to mine or use BITCOIN CASH, the BTC will never be as useful as now... but that is too close to impossible.  ;D

The most the best is "Bitcoins vs Ethereum" Because the ethreum has a nice platform it is also way for the ICO to carry out. There is also a lot of support for ETH. So it's a good idea to fight it for the two because of this we can see the ultimate drop in the top Bitcoins

If we talk about the current situation, then no one can compete BTC , BTC is the king of crypto currencies.
Thai is due to the big community behind it , the decentralised nature and most importantly user friendly. These things made Bitcoins what it is now , the value also has a major role to attract people but if we count on advantages then theirs a big list to read on.

We can never be sure about the future, the alt coins behind BTC now is ethereum , it is a good project and people are investing in them . Most of them are BTC user  buying ETH as an asset  because they think ETH has a good future .
In my personal veiws ETH may give competition to BTC in future.

The cryptocurrency market is still considered young, it is so young to have a competition. Bitcoin right now is dominating the cryptocurrency market as it is the most popular crypto available so popular that you will hear the name Bitcoin first before the word cryptocurrency. As we all know holders of Altcoin are also holders of Bitcoin or even when the time comes when the price action of Bitcoin is good all the altcoins in the market will turn red as traders are selling their altcoins in order to get more Bitcoin for profit taking.

If, come tomorrow, China announce some big news regarding Neo I can see the price of it rising like it did after the rebranding, what to? God only knows.

In the sense you try to think bitcoin in bitcoinnect because last 3months the bcc value increases and he loses the price of bitcoin but right now it goes down with ethereum so you can not really configure another coin in bitcoin because bitcoin really is main using a lot of people. And bitcoin is still rising and not just dropping

I was going to write monero, but after reading the other posts and thinking about it, I also think that just another crypto currency might not be able to compete with Bitcoin if it does not have a real use like ethereum that enables smart contracts. It is really a game changer and have a potential to become the biggest micropayment platform for developers.

For bitcoin its rise in the realm of cryptocurrency is fuelled by its combination of longevity and high profits. However due to its consistent instability and volatility there had been considerable noise surrounding ethernum which i think is its closest competitor n

For me, nothing will compete bitcoin, because bitcoin is the foundation of all digital currency. But the closest is the ethereum but will never ever replace bitcoin.

As of now, I don't think that any of forked coins such as Bitcoin cash or Bitcoin gold have the potential to compete Bitcoin in terms of active userbase, price and community support. However, I think there are some potential alt-coins which might be able to reach the volume of Bitcoin transactions.

The first one is Ripple's XRP and I am choosing this because this is banker's Bitcoin in my opinion and Banks will use it for their internal transactions and since they will share the transaction details of the users with governments, there won't be any legal issues too which is pro point for the growth of it.

The second one is ETH because I am expecting huge growth in the sector of I.O.T powered by A.I so in the coming years, we won't be doing much of our transactions like paying the electricity bill or gas bill etc. It is possible that electronic appliances will automatically remind the servicing companies for the maintenance check of their own and be paying the bills too using the pre-signed smart contracts. However, everything is still in the beta phase but there are infinite possibilities.

Bitcoin has already competed the trading volume of iphone. They're both different industries, the only thing that can outperform BTC is a cryptocurrency, as well.

But Their is no one to compete with Bitcoin because all other crypto currency are controlled by their developers or depend on their project and if developer or project fail the coin is dead but Bitcoin is not depended on any developer or project as all projects are created on btc and are valued it high.

if you are talking or referring only here in crypto currency that can only compete with is ethereum only this is close enough that competing if we look for it but if you are referring for other currency that can compete none other than fiat currency but they are not competing right because as of now there is no other currency that can compete with bitcoin cyrptocurrency.

Bitcoin is the King of the first digital money and market, always the most Bitcoin will be more used. Ethereum is stronger from the altcoins, and with the smart contract feature, many areas will be used in the future. There are many more altcoins, their projects and areas of use are also strong. The lanes of all of them are different, and those who think that only Bitcoin will be permanent are very wrong for me.

Who says they have replaced each other. They are just advancement over each other and they have same share (almost) to each other and the popularity too. You can't compare them really as its peoples choice really. Also, bitcoin can be competed by any other asset in the market. Its just about getting popular and letting people know how big profits they can really earn with that asset. Thats the thing people want to choose from the market which can benefit them and if something come up with that idea then sure bitcoin market can go down in no time. :-)

Right now, Bitcoin has Etherium. But who knows. A lot of forks will be coming and another one om November with Segwit2x. This maybe the biggest competitor of bitcoins today. But I still do hope that bitcoins will remain king and stomp down Segwit2x like what it did to Bitcoin Gold and Bitcoin Cash.

Each of these coins has a place. In fact, i would say they should at some level collaborate when regulation and governments get more involved. Etherium has some valuable assets Bitcoin lacks, however Bitcoin has a bigger name and therefore brand.

Most likely it's Bitcoin vs Ethereum or maybe Bitcoin vs Bitcoin Cash. And who knows the upcoming Segwit2x fork will bring a real contender for Bitcoin.

Bit coin is a unique entity in the whole world of the digital currencies which is also known as king of the crypto currencies so I am considering bit coin as the most strongest and the most stable virtual currencies which sustained it value after so many shocks and crises the price of bit coin is increasing very rapidly and it is only due to the high profitability and popularity.

I don't see any serious competitor to Bitcoin at the moment .. Ethereum price is already high , we can see that the price isn't moving that much anymore in the last weeks.
I have to admit I didn't expect the Bitcoin cash pump that high, but I can't imagine it to overtake Bitcoin.

The privacy coins are the biggest competitor for Bitcoin.  Some people like Bitcoin because they see it as being somehow anonymous, or untraceable.  Once it becomes widely understood that it's not private, by even novices to the ecosystem, then interest will move towards the privacy coins for that reason.

It is bitcoin. I think the next is different in each country. In Japan, it is monacoin.

there is many coins that could compete with bitcon like ethereum, bitcoin cash which is getting pump yesterday but i don't think that they can compete in short of term because bitcoin is still the biggest coin in cryptocurrency. i think not just from the price that will be compete but from the benefits that will user get from the coins itself especially if user want to exchange the coins into fiat that only bitcoin could have the biggest chance to do this.

Haha i think that is good statement. BITCOIN VS ETHEREUM , ethereum can compete with bitcoin, and ethereum have big potential. check this link for more information: www.propthereum.io

I think they're all trying to compete with bitcoin. Most of the alts derived from bitcoin are - in one way or another - saying they're the next big thing (read their ANN threads).

The offshoot bitcoin cash wants to address bitcoin's scaling flaw and then the new offshoot bitcoin gold wants to address bitcoin's centralization issue.

I suppose they will all thrive and the challenge to bitcoin devs may be healthy so that bitcoin development continues.... If none is done, perhaps one of the spinoffs or alts might "dethrone" the reigning asset.... it could be possible, you know...

Nice question. Before everything else, I will make it clear that there's a small chance that bitcoin will be overtaken by any altcoins in the future. But if ever there is an altcoin that can compete with bitcoin, I think it would be BITCOIN CASH. It's no surprise for me if, in the future, this offspring of bitcoin will compete its parent coin. Other than being an offspring of the best crpytocurrency in the world, people will probably choose this coin because of its relationship with bitcoin.

As of now, Bitcoin Cash is ranked no.2 as the most valuable cryptocurrency with a value of $1,252.91, next to Bitcoin with the value of $6,612.78. That's still pretty far if we are going to think about it, but who knows, anything can happen.

There are so many competitors out there for bitcoins like Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold, Etherium and other feasible alts. But the way I see it, the supposed major competitor of bitcoin was Segwit2x. Segwit2x, as far as I know, was better than bitcoins because of the transfer time being smaller. Good thing it was cancelled last minute because the bitcoin comnunity decided that the Segwit2x will break the community.

Right now, Bitcoin Cash is trying to compete with bitcoins. I hope it does well.
